Friday, Sept 22, 2017 South West Michigan – How Dry I Am

Friday, Sept 22, 2017 South West Michigan – How Dry I Am

Currently 75 with an average S wind of 3 mph making no difference so it feels like 75. Dew Point 68, Humidity 78%, Barometer 30.38 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 7:41 pm. With a sunny day and only a few passing afternoon clouds, we are expected to reach a high of 93. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies, low 67, SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Dry.  The word for the day is dry. We haven’t had any rain to speak of in a very long time and the leaves, being that it is fall already, stressed enough to change color and fall to the ground, are telling the tale. When the wind blows, they sound a papery, rustling sound. A dry call for moisture is what I hear. It’s as if Mother Nature has hung a million wind chimes about that only play the one tune, in a whispery voice. We won’t even address the grass, which has for the most part given up on being green in favor of shades of brown and tan. Even the tall weeds that usually bend and sway in the breeze, snap and break if that air hits them hard enough. We are in need of rain. Because….it’s dry.

Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 South West Michigan – Pseudo August For Us

Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 South West Michigan – Pseudo August For Us

Currently 76 with a SSW wind of 5 mph behaving so it feels exactly like the 76 it is. Dew Point 69, Humidity 79%, Barometer 30.02 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 7:41 pm. Partly cloudy today with the small chance of a stray thunderstorm, high 90, S wind 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with that same small chance of a stray t-storm. Low 69. S wind 5 – 10 mph.

This is rather bizarre. It’s as if Mother Nature has become confused and is giving us a nice, hot month of August, totally forgetting we are in the back half of September. Looking ahead this week, we are expected to be hovering at or slightly above the 90 degree mark. Unbelievable. And we are getting none of the rain possibilities that have been given us. It’s very dry now. I really don’t see anything happening real soon to be changing or helping that situation. We need to cool off and get some rain. And I fully realize that in a couple of months I’m going to be amazed that I even thought that, but for now, it’s true.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 South West Michigan – Another Possibility For Rain

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 South West Michigan – Another Possibility For Rain

Currently 69 with a SE wind of 6 mph ignoring it, so it feels like 69. Dew Point 66, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.96, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 7:42 pm. After a cloudy morning and some early fog, we should move on into a sunny afternoon. High 86. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of late night showers and t-storms. Low 67. S wind 5 – 10 mph.

No matter how small or great our percentage for rain lately, we’ve received none. So fingers are crossed that tonight and tomorrow might bring us at least a drop or two of moisture. We need it.

Although my Hummingbird population seems to be thinning already – isn’t this sort of early for that – my Mourning Doves remain constant.  I enjoy watching my favorite bird, the Mourning Dove, in my tiny backyard. There never is just one. They are out here in pairs, two pair to be exact. They must live in a Dove commune or be part of a Dove harem. They are such skittish creatures. A leaf dropping behind one can cause it to hop and skip away with that alarmed twitter. I’ve been putting the food they eat out there for going on three years, they count on me to have their meal strewn about in that one special spot,  but if I opened the door and went outside while they were grazing, they’d be off in a flurry of feather in a heartbeat. Alas…but my favorite bird song with their cooing song. So I ignore the fact that to them  I am a scary beast and keep on setting the table for their pleasure.

Just wish it wasn’t heading toward time for all of the Hummingbirds to vanish again until next spring.

Tuesday, Sept 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Morning Rain Possible

Tuesday, Sept 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Morning Rain Possible

Currently 61 with an E wind of 10 mph dropping that to feeling like 60. Dew Point 54, Humidity 79%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 7:44 pm. After a slight chance for some early morning showers, we should end up with a mostly cloudy, 78 degree day. E wind of 10 – 15mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 63. E wind 5 – 10 mph.

Here we  are expecting our heat to ramp back up toward 90 for the next week or so. Most welcome watching this unfold for me.

Not so welcome watching is the threat of Hurricane Maria. My heart hurts for the islands already damaged and destroyed by the last hurricane to ravage them, and now another one bearing down? This is a dreadful prospect for these people. There already is no water, food shortage – all of the comforts we take for granted – are missing. Their homes destroyed or gone…and now they are expected to ‘prepare’ for the next devastation? This is stressful for me, way up here, out of danger. For those people down there? Can’t even imagine how difficult this is for them. My prayers are with them. This active Atlantic hurricane season is proving to be a horror show.

Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – More Color

Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – More Color

Currently 62 degrees with a NE wind of 8 mph playing with it enough to lower it to feeling like 61. Dew Point 59, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 7:46 pm. Cloudy this morning with some partial clearing later today. High 77, ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

A few passing clouds overnight bringing with them a slight chance for a rain shower. Low 54. E wind 5 – 10mph.

The color continues to blossom in my backyard. It’s fascinating to watch it grow. And what’s interesting this year is that I’m not only watching that,  but my eye is on the color blooming in the Atlantic basin with the many named storms and hurricanes spreading bright shades over the color enhanced maps. An astonishing amount of brilliant red, yellow, and orange out there,  as is in the trees and shrubs in my neighborhood. Lucky for us, our color will only bring something to watch, for those impacted with the color spreading around in the Atlantic Ocean, not quite so fortunate. Not only must they watch, in fact, keep a sharp eye on development, they must prepare for damage. For being hurt.  The only hurting here will be to the aching back left over from raking up our color. All in all, from here to there, plenty of color to observe.

Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – Sun To Possible Rain

Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – Sun To Possible Rain

Currently 77 degrees with a SSW wind of 10 mph making no difference at all, so it feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 65%, Barometer 30.05 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:24 am, Sunset 7:48 pm. Mostly sunny morning with increasing clouds and a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High 82. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 56. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

It’s a lovely morning. Nicely sunny with surprising color showing up all over the place. It’s as if  suddenly the green is fading into brilliance almost before our very eyes. Autumn is, indeed, a beautiful season.

Looking forward to some rain later today, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll get any. Just would be nice. Actually, what would be nicer is if it rained overnight. That would be perfect but since I have little to say in the matter, we’ll take what we get.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Some Clouds, Some Sun

Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Some Clouds, Some Sun

Currently 63 with a SSE wind of 5 mph being coy, so the temperature feels like 63. Dew Point 61, Humidity 93%, Barometer 30.11 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 7:50 pm. A goodly mix of sun and clouds for us today. A high of 84. S wind 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight. Low 63. S wind 5 – 10 mph.

There really is no blue sky showing this morning. It’s as if the cloudy part managed to smear itself across the sky and obliterate the blue. I reckon that at some point today the sun will manage to poke through and we may see the blue color along with it. We shall see.

It does look as if we have a fair chance for some rain and thunderstorms late on Sunday, but since things can change so quickly, that may vanish by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around. Again, we shall see. I’m hoping for the rain. We could use some.

Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – Comfortable Days

Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – Comfortable Days

Currently 66 degrees with a S wind of 5 mph dancing around the edge, leaving it to feel like the 66 degrees it is. Dew Point 61, Humidity 84%, Barometer 30.05 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:22 am, Sunset 7:52 pm. Reaching for a high of 84 with plenty of sunshine.

Mostly clear tonight, low 59. SSE winds of 5 – 10 mph.

The color is beginning to crop up here and there, before too long to be everywhere. Nice here in my back yard, but not so everywhere. It’s hard to believe there is a Winter Storm Warning in the Rockies…granted, it’s in the high elevation, but still….. And the wildfires out in California are heartbreaking. My thoughts are always not only on the humans impacted, but the wild life, the animals. Scary, scary stuff. People in Texas and Florida coping with the aftermath of hurricanes, clean-ups which will take a very long time. So many places to worry about, be concerned with. I’m grateful that mine is calm and colorful.

Thursday, Sept 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Foggy Start To The Day

Thursday, Sept 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Foggy Start To The Day

Currently 60 degrees with a SSE wind of 1 mph hiding in the wings, not being a part of the play, so it feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 98%, Barometer 29.56 & rising, Visibility 1.3 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 7:53 pm. Once the areas of dense fog clear, we should have a partly cloudy day with a high of 78. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear skies tonight with a low of 54. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Nicely foggy this morning but it won’t last long and then we should see some blue patches in the sky.

I can not believe they’re already talking about snow falling off to the west. I just can’t.  And people wonder why I never put my snow shovel away, why it nestles in the bushes by the door. Why bother? Winter sneaks in so quickly that might as well be ready when it does.

It’s looking more and more like Hurricane Irma was more deadly and damaging as some of the people thought – people who posted on Twitter about it being boring and nothing happening. I won’t mention names, but I will say it sounds, once in awhile, like some famous folk should perhaps cease being so self-absorbed and aim their attention outward for a change. They might be surprised at what could then occupy their thoughts.

Wednesday, Sept 13 South West Michigan – Overcast Skies

Wednesday, Sept 13 South West Michigan – Overcast Skies

Currently 55 with a NE wind of 5 mph ignoring it all, leaving it to feel like 55. Dew Point 53, Humidity 92%, Barometer 29.81 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 7:55 pm. Heading towards a high of 76 with mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of rain. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 51. Light and variable winds.

Rather a drab day as we are experiencing with some of the clouds and a small chance of some rain from the remnants of Irma. Would rather be dealing with a day like this than out in the Rocky’s where there is a place where a winter storm warning is in effect. Seriously? Oh, yes, indeed. What a dismal thought.

Feeling so sad for the southern parts of our nation coping with the utter destruction from two separate hurricanes. Doesn’t even seem possible. One is bad enough, but two of them. So many, many people facing such a long uphill climb from where they are right now trying to regain some sort of normalcy.  So many of them who can ill afford to even think of it let alone tackle it all. Mother Nature is so often a cruel…well, I won’t say it, but I remember Barbara Bush talking about someone a long time ago, and she said, “…it rhymes with witch.” Exactly.
