Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019-South West Michigan-6″ Of Overnight Snow, Still Snowing

Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019-South West Michigan-6″ Of Overnight Snow, Still Snowing

Currently 28 with an average wind from the W of 15 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.56 & rising, Humidity 85%, Visibility 0.3 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:16 pm.

Morning snow will give way to lingering afternoon snow showers or flurries. High 29. W winds 15 – 25 pm.

Cloudy overnight with a few flurries or snow showers. Low 22. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Woke to a good 6″ of snow this morning. The forecast had been anywhere from 1″ to 7″ and I suspect by the end of the day we’ll be well into the 7″ range. From nothing to all that snow again? Yup, it’s Winter all right. Shoveling a path out to where I throw seeds and peanuts for the birds and critters wasn’t a lot of fun and I’m feeling it right now, even being as careful as I could. Alas…the hazards of living in the north part of the nation. I’m happy I don’t have to get in my car and drive anywhere today. Or tomorrow. Or the next day. I have the privilege of being able to hunker down and wait till things get better. Well, maybe not that long ’cause that might take until April, but still…

Monday, Dec. 30, 2019-South West Michigan- Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

Monday, Dec. 30, 2019-South West Michigan- Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SW of 22 mph. Feels like 27. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.31 & rising, Humidity 95%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:15 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7:00pm Tuesday.

60% chance of rain showers. Windy afternoon. High 41. SW winds 20 – 30 mph with higher gusts possible.

90% chance of overnight snow. Some sites predicting 1-3″, some 5-7″ before the storm moves on. Low 28. SW winds 15 – 25 mph with higher gusts possible.

So far it looks like I only have to contend with rain and lots of wind today. Tonight and tomorrow sound far different for those who will have to be out and about. Depending on which weather site one checks in with, we could end up with anywhere from 1″ to 7″ – quite a difference and I’m sure hoping we end up on the smaller end of that scale.  This looks to be a fast moving storm system due to the high winds whipping it in and out. Let’s hope so. The less time it hangs around, the less snow we’ll see. It does seem, averaging out the different reports, we could end up with probably 3 – 5″ of the miserable stuff. I guess we’ll see. I’m going to be able to get my appointments met and errands run today so I’ll be inside praying for everyone else’s safety as there will most certainly be a lot of folks not able to tuck in and wait it out like I can.

Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Back At Last, Back At Last, Thank God Almighty I’m Back At Last

Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Back At Last, Back At Last, Thank God Almighty I’m Back At Last

Currently 47 with an average wind from the ESE of 10 mph. Feels like 42 degrees. Dew Point 45, Barometer 29.70 & falling, Humidity 93%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:14 pm.

Overcast today with a high of 53 degrees. SSE winds 10 – 20 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Possibly an inch of rainfall. Low near 40. ESE winds shifting to the N 10 -15 mph.

Woke to a nice rain and it rained most of the early morning. Now as predicted overcast. Looking forward to the overnight rain, but not tomorrow’s forecast. Appears to be a mixed bag of unpleasantness on tap. I have, of course, an appointment that must be kept and it does sound at this moment as if tomorrow’s roads could be less than fun to drive on. I guess I’ll find out – and out I must go, like it or not. Would it have been such a terrible thing for Mother Nature to be kind for one more day? She’s been more than generous so far with our mild weather. One more day, that’s all I ask. I reckon I’ll find out.

Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Plenty Of Sunshine Today

Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Plenty Of Sunshine Today

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SSW winds of 7 mph. Feels like 24. Dew Point 25, Barometer 30.36 & falling, Humidity 79%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Lots of sunshine today. high 42. SW winds 10 -15 mph.

Mainly clear tonight. Low 33. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Going to be a very pretty day once the sky clears up and with comfortable temperatures in store, a grand Saturday before Christmas for everyone to be out and about shopping like mad. Thank goodness, I don’t have to be out there in the crowds. Hard to believe this is the week before Christmas in Michigan with temperatures in the 40s. Plenty of snow on the ground yet, but if all goes according to Mother Nature’s plan, should be gone by the end of this week. Looking forward to that. Nothing worse than opening your door and being blinded by the glare of white. For me, anyway.

Friday, Dec. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-A Week Of Sun And Clouds Coming At Us

Friday, Dec. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-A Week Of Sun And Clouds Coming At Us

Currently 17 with an average wind from the S of 11 mph. Feels like 5 degrees. Dew Point 5, Barometer 30.29 & falling, Humidity 57%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Plenty of morning clouds, decreasing in the afternoon. High 36. SE winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 27. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Unless things change, we have a week ahead of us with supposedly no precipitation, a fair mix of clouds and some sun with really decent temperatures in the low 40s. This is extraordinary for a Michigan end of December. I’m all in with it. Probably lots of folks moaning and groaning about no White Christmas, but I’m fine with the idea. I’m pretty sure there are plenty of others just like me who hate winter no matter what the holiday is and would vote for as mild as we could get any time. Sounds like a winner coming up to me.

Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Another Week Predicted Snowless

Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Another Week Predicted Snowless

Currently 17 with an average wind from the S of 11 mph. Feels like 5 degrees. Dew Point 5, Barometer 30.29 & falling, Humidity 57%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Some morning sun with increasing afternoon clouds. High 33. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low 23. Light and variable winds.

Okay, so peering ahead, it looks as if the coming week should remain precipitation free. We’ll see. Last time this was the forecast somehow snow managed to sneak in anyway. The temperatures are supposed to be well into the 30s, so we’ll see how this goes. I’m all in with it. I have no need for White to be in my Christmas. I’d be happy to see bare ground. Mother Nature has the controls, so it’s a wait and see game. In the meantime, I’m delighted to see a bit of blue sky this morning.

Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Cold And Snow Cover On The Ground

Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Cold And Snow Cover On The Ground

Currently 14 with an average wind from the WNW of 16 mph. Feels like -2. Dew Point 3, Barometer 30.22 & rising, Humidity 62%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a few flurries or now showers possible. High 16. NW winds 10 -20 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low 2. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Well, sure got cold here. A low of 2 tonight? Brrrr….and for a week that only one week ago held not a chance of snow on the ground now has a good 1 1/2″ of it covering everything. Looks and feels like winter out there.

On a side note, read this morning where the magnetic North Pole is migrating at an ever faster rate. It’s moving closer to Russia now than Canada. Fascinating.

Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

Currently 22 with an average wind from the W of 5 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly sunny morning will give way to a cloudy afternoon with a 40% chance of snow showers. High 34. W winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 50% chance of snow. Low 16. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until tomorrow morning. A chance of up to 3″ of snow. See? What did I say? Out of the blue the weather changes, where at one point, just recently, there was not a flake or a drop of precipitation in our view,  we now have an advisory in effect. No surprise, I think. Our weather changes so much so often. So from not having any chance of a White Christmas to who knows? I guess it’s a wait and see thing.

Monday, Dec. 16, 2019-South West Michigan-A Dull Day Of Weather Shaping Up

Monday, Dec. 16, 2019-South West Michigan-A Dull Day Of Weather Shaping Up

Currently 25 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.21 & rising, Humidity 88%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with the possibility of a few flurries or snow showers. High 32. Light and variable winds.

Partly to mostly cloudy with a low of 21. Light and variable winds.

Well, every morning we wake to a new surprise from Mother Nature. No snow forecast but woke to a covering of it anyway. Didn’t need it, didn’t want it. Why, I ask, doesn’t Mother Nature surprise us by letting us wake up to a sunny 70 degree day?  Some surprises would be more fun and agreeable than others. Just saying.

Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun Doing It’s Best To Brighten The Day

Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun Doing It’s Best To Brighten The Day

Currently 28 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Humidity 66%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

50% chance of widely scattered snow showers. High 29. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 23. Light and variable winds.

We did have a Winter Weather Advisory in effect overnight for freezing drizzle followed by a light snow. We got that and it did make the roads this morning a bit slick, but nothing drastic. And this time of year, it could jolly well have been very drastic. In fact, peering ahead it does still look as if our weather will be fine and dandy for December with nothing extreme making any threats. At least for now this is what we can expect. Fingers crossed that nothing untoward shows up out of the blue…or as is usually the case, Canada and the frozen north. So far, so good.
