Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023-SW Michigan-Stuck In Icy Mix Pattern

Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023-SW Michigan-Stuck In Icy Mix Pattern

Currently 36 with an average wind from the WSW of 4 mph. Feels like 27 degrees, Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.75, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 6:30 pm.

Cloudy becoming partly cloudy with a high around 41.  W winds 10-15 mph.

80% chance of overnight snow mixed with freezing rain or sleet. Low around 30. Light winds becoming E 10-15 mph.

This has been a strange winter and except for the 3 big snow events we had, we’ve mostly had the dread freezing rain, sleet mess. More to come, evidently. Look for the possibility again tonight.  And again maybe around Friday.  Hopefully that one will be all snow, but no bets taken on it. This is becoming more than tiresome. Our hope is that with February leaving us and March coming on, we can get past this pattern. Either give us snow or give us rain. Enough of the mixing things up. It’s never fun. Better yet, give us Spring and skip the entire issue of winter weather.

Monday, Feb. 27, 2023-SW Michigan-Yet Another Winter Storm Advisory

Monday, Feb. 27, 2023-SW Michigan-Yet Another Winter Storm Advisory

Currently 30 with an average wind from the E of 8 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 29.45, Humidity 93%, Visibility 2.5 mi., Sunrise 7:22 am, Sunset 6:28 pm.

100% chance of freezing rain, snow, sleet. Precipitation may be heavy at times until midday. Snow and sleet accumulation 1″ or less. Ice up to 1/4″ possible. High in the mid 30s. E winds 10-20 with gusts to 45.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain overnight. Low in the lower 30s. E winds 5-10 with gusts to 25 becoming W 10-20 with gusts to 45.

Getting slick out there this morning. Heading out to feed the critters I found everything already ice coated in my little backyard. This is a fast moving storm, this Winter Storm Piper, but while it’s here it’s going to be an ugly one. We could see some sunshine tomorrow, but don’t get too excited because tomorrow night brings yet another opportunity for more freezing rain. This is, indeed, getting tiresome. Be careful out there today.

Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today’s Sunshine

Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today’s Sunshine

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 6:27 pm.

Sunny. High in the upper 30s. W winds around 15 mp decreasing to 5-10 in the afternoon.

20% chance of some light freezing rain. Low in the lower 20s. Light winds becoming E 5-15 mph.

Get out there and enjoy the sunshine today ’cause tomorrow will be a totally different story. Winter Storm Piper appears to be determined to dump ice on us and as of now, we’re in the bright pink area of the national weather map. That could change by tomorrow and I hope so because that indicates we could get some heavy icing. The worst part of winter. Anyway, there is already a Winter Storm Watch in effect for tomorrow. Could get freezing rain, snow, wind…not a pleasant day ahead of us. Just be aware and prepared.

Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023-SW Michigan-So Much For Today’s Sunshine

Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023-SW Michigan-So Much For Today’s Sunshine

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 100%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 6:26 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 30s. S winds 5-10 mph becoming W 10-15 mph in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a low in the mid 20s. SW winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 35.

Another example of what a difference a day makes. Just yesterday we were looking forward to a sunny weekend. Alas…so far, it seems we may be able to see some tomorrow, but it’s becoming likely we won’t today.

Next week is looking messy for now. Some snow, some freezing rain, some…whatever winter can toss at us. Merely another winter week to get through on our way to spring. At least we’re heading in the right direction.

Friday, Feb. 24, 2023-SW Michigan-A Cold One Today

Friday, Feb. 24, 2023-SW Michigan-A Cold One Today

Currently 21 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.46, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 6:25 pm.

Partly sunny today with a high only in the mid 20s. NW winds 5-10 mph.

50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low around 20. Light winds becoming SE 5-10 mph.

Today won’t be all that grand to be out and about. Unless you bundle up good. This coming weekend, however, sounds more comfortable. Won’t be warming up to anything balmy but we should see sunshine with no precipitation until Sunday night. At that time, so far it looks like we can expect a repeat of the freezing rain stuff. Monday isn’t going to be a charmer, either, but at least it won’t be all that cold. Could see another 40-degree day with rain likely which should take care of whatever came our way Sunday night.

Still dealing with crunchy ice-covered snow in many places. Makes walking tricky – and painful for those with things like bad knees to deal with. Be happy when all of this has been softened up – and better yet, gone. In the meantime, be careful.

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Dodged The Worst Of Storm Olive

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Dodged The Worst Of Storm Olive

Currently 27 with an average wind from the NE of 5 mph feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.66, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 6:23 pm.

60% chance of freezing rain until about midday. Little or no accumulation. High in the upper 30s. E winds 15-20 with gusts to 30 becoming W 20-30 with gusts to 45.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of snow showers in the evening becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low 15-20. NW winds 15-25 with gusts to 35.

Once again a major storm gave us what amounted to a glancing blow, leaving us with a mess but not the heavy-duty mess that was created elsewhere. We got a few inches of snow, mixed with freezing rain, sleet and what we have this morning is a snow cover crusted with ice. Sure makes walking in the backyard going out to feed the birds and critters rather tricky. We lucked out and didn’t lose power, which had been a possibility. Our roads are messy to slippery, and it pays to pay attention. Walk and drive cautiously.

Our weekend is looking fair with nothing drastic coming in until Sunday night, which at the moment looks to be a repeat of the freezing rain scenario. I think we’re going to be getting this crummy type of weather off and on for a while so best thing is to just be prepared and careful.

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Currently 27 with an average wind from the ENE of 9 mph. Feels like 16 mph. Dew Point 25, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 97%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 6:22 pm.

Winter Storm Warning In Effect. Roads Could Becoming Dangerous.

100% chance of snow, sleet, freezing rain. Sleet could be heavy at times. High near 32. Windy. E winds 20-30 with gusts to 45 mph. Snow and ice could add up to 1-3″.

90% chance of the same tonight. Low around 27. Windy. ENE 20-30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

At the moment, it looks as if the strongest band of ice from Winter Storm Olive is sliding to the south of us, which is the best we can hope for here. We are still close to the bull’s eye for everything this storm is bringing with it. Hopefully we won’t get the thickness of ice we were worried about yesterday. Nothing to ignore here, even so. Still could end up with enough ice that, along with strong winds, could bring down power lines. Roads will become treacherous and there still could be that possibility of power outages. Most school systems are closed which should tell you they are expecting something unpleasant, because some of these school systems rarely close. Tomorow isn’t looking much better to start off with.

Be alert. Stay off the roads and stay home if at all possible.

Tuesday, Feb. 21. 2023-SW Michigan-Get Ready For A Couple Bad Days

Tuesday, Feb. 21. 2023-SW Michigan-Get Ready For A Couple Bad Days

Currently 30 with an average wind from the WSW of 8 mph. Feels like. Dew Point 20, Barometer 29.51, Humidity 78%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 6:21 pm.

Winter Weather Watch in effect Wednesday, Thursday. Travel could become impossible. Heavy mix of precipitation. 1-3″ of snow possible. 1/10″ – 3/10″ of ice possible.

Cloudy to partly cloudy today. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 20-25 mph decreasing to 10-20 mph. Gusts to 40 possible.

70% chance of overnight snow. Little or no accumulation. Low in the mid 20s. S winds 5-10 becoming E 10-15 with gusts to 25.

Today is going to be the best we get for a while. Tomorrow and Thursday aren’t going to be nearly as accommodating. Winter Storm Olive is going to be swinging through leaving us with snow, ice, sleet…nothing good. The best scenario would be for snow. As of now, it doesn’t look like that band of ice is going to slide south far enough to leave us out of the mix. Just do be careful. Depending on how much of the ice feature we get, be prepared for power outages. And do make the decision to stay home if it all looks to be coming at us in force. You don’t want to get stuck someplace you don’t want to be spending all your time should you be unable to get back home. And I don’t know about you, but even at my best job, I never got paid enough to risk crashing my car trying to drive on ice. it’s foolhardy to even think you’ll be good at it. Nobody is. Ice always wins. Every single time.

Monday, Feb. 20, 2023-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today, Calm Before Possible Ice Storm

Monday, Feb. 20, 2023-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today, Calm Before Possible Ice Storm

Currently 30 with an average wind from the NW of 2 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 29.71, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 6:19 pm.

Partly sunny today with a high in the lower 40s. Light winds becoming S 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers then rain possibly mixed with snow showers overnight. Low in the upper 20s. SE winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30 increasing to 20-30 mph with gusts to 40.

Today will be nice and calm. Rather pleasant. Tomorrow maybe not quite so nice but be ready for Wednesday and Thursday. They could be as far from pleasant and nice as possible. Right now it does look as if Winter Storm Olive is going to be presenting us with ice. And it could amount to a lot of ice. I’d much rather see us in the snow belt of this storm, and things may change should the storm pattern shifts, but for now it doesn’t look as if we’re going to be that fortunate.  Keep an eye on the forecast and be ready. If, indeed, we do get the ice part here, do stay off the roads. There is NO skill involved in driving on ice. No tires created to keep you safe on ice. There is only luck and not very many of us are lucky enough to escape damage to our vehicles or even to ourselves.  Be smart. Be careful. Be alert.

Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Might See Some Sunshine This Afternoon

Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Might See Some Sunshine This Afternoon

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SSE of 6 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 29.74, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 6:18 pm.

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of rain until about midday then mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the mid 40s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 35.

Mostly cloudy with a low in the upper 20s. W winds 10-15 mph becoming NW 5 – 10 mph.

Not a bad day today, tomorrow looks pretty good, too. But later on this week it looks to be messy. Around Wednesday, Thursday, looks like ice, freezing rain, snow…whatever Mother Nature can toss at us. Hopefully this won’t become a problem, but just be watchful and prepared in case. On a positive note, I watched a V of geese fly overhead to the north this morning. Seems a little early, but hey…I’ll take any little sign of an early spring and for me that’s one.
