Currently 61 with an average wind from the NNE of 3 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:05 am, Sunset 8:15 pm.

Sunny. High in the mid 70s. Light winds.

Clear overnight with a low around 50. SE winds 10 mph.

Very pleasant summer weather building up to what could be some scorchers the beginning of next week.  I’m sure that won’t last long, after all it will be September and a natural cook-down will occur. Plentiful sunshine right on from here right on until about the end of next week. Perhaps some rain moving in for Thursday and Friday. Other than that, summery and enjoyable especially if you like warm weather. I do. Bring it on. Cold, blustery weather will be upon us all too soon.

Sound pretty cool tonight. Good sleeping, I reckon, but it’s just a hint at what’s inevitable to come our way. Me? I’m not looking forward to it. I like the warm nights with the windows wide open. Anyway, temperatures look to be comfortable until the beginning of next week. Could be getting some toasty days then. We know it won’t last long so best to just enjoy them while we can.

Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023-SW Michigan-Looking For Some Rain Later Today

Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023-SW Michigan-Looking For Some Rain Later Today

Currently 64 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:22 pm.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 50s. N winds 10-15 mph.

Pretty good chance of some rain today. Hoping we get it because there isn’t so much as a hint of any coming our way for longer than the next week. In fact, look for some sweltering temperatures to return to us the beginning of next week. With no rain, won’t take long for things to dry out.

Little clouds were few and far between this morning. Mostly a beautiful blue sky. Looks like this is our picture all weekend, No rain in sight until, still, possibly on Tuesday. A week of comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Sort of a reward for getting through the dreadful weather from the end of last week. And plenty of folks are going to be in need of calm, comfortable weather as they continue clean up from the storms. We haven’t been subject to weather like that in a long time and hopefully, it will be another long stretch before we are again. Our sweet spot in the weather map turned sour right quick there for a while.

Storms and tornado damage in Michigan have proven to be much worse than originally thought. Hundreds of downed trees, power outages that won’t be cleared up, in some cases, until late Sunday. Deaths were attributed to the storms with businesses and homes damaged or destroyed. Clear evidence of a tornado in NE Grand Rapids and one down around Lansing, in addition to severe wind damage all over the place. We haven’t had a bad storm event in some time, but this one seemed determined to make up for lost time. Prayers for all of those impacted by that weather.

This weekend will be so uneventful, thank goodness, and cooler than what we’ve been experiencing. The pleasant weather should hold out all week. Chance of rain about Tuesday, but other than that, nothing in the forecast to create concern. Try, if you are able, to enjoy this weekend. For those struggling to overcome the recent destructive weather, know that so many of us are thinking of you, reaching out to help, and praying for your recovery.

Friday, Aug. 25, 2023-SW Michigan-Surprise Overnight Tornado Does Damage

Friday, Aug. 25, 2023-SW Michigan-Surprise Overnight Tornado Does Damage

Currently 70 with an average wind from the E of 2 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.4, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:29 pm.

Mostly cloudy. Patchy morning fog. High around 80. N winds 5 mph becoming NW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy. Low in the lower 60s. Light winds.

Pretty scary during the night when the tornado sirens came on and alerts sounded on phones. This morning it does look as if the area around Comstock Park got hit. The Scott Lake Golf Course building seems to have taken a hard hit. Not sure yet how much damage occurred to homes in that area, but no matter how much there is, it was too much. A tornado doesn’t happen here often, and when one does, it’s never welcome and always causes pain and suffering along the way.

The coming week looks to be a mild one with temperatures in the 70-degree range. Perhaps some rain around Tuesday, but other than that, a dry, comfortable week.

Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Uncomfortable Day For Us

Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Uncomfortable Day For Us

Currently 80 with an average wind from the SSW of 8 mph. Feels like 80. Dew Point 78, Barometer 29.75, Humidity 100%, Visibility 7.5 mi., Sunrise 6:57 am, Sunset 8:31 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 30%chance of showers and a thunderstorm in the evening. Low in the mid 60s. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

The Jet Stream is going to become our friend and move this stifling heat off to the south of us, starting tomorrow. Our weekend will then be very comfortable with temperatures in the 70s. In the meantime, we have to get through today. And today will be warm and stuffy with a good chance of some severe storms in the afternoon and evening. Just keep an eye on what’s developing.

Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Couple Of Dangerous Hot Days

Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Couple Of Dangerous Hot Days

Currently 75 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:32 pm.

Heat Advisory in effect from noon today through Thursday. Heat Index to 104 possible.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms possible.  High 92. S winds 10-15 mph becoming SW in the afternoon with gusts to 30. Heat index to 104.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Low in the lower 70s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

That huge dome of high heat is going to engulf us for a couple of days, but the weekend is promising to make up for all of it. Just have to hang in there and stay safe until then. As for the rain, as of now it looks to be going to the east of us and doesn’t appear to be interested in visiting our area at all. We shall see how that goes, but for right now, doesn’t look like rain, just plenty hot with an unhealthy air quality to go along with it. Be cautious outside and we’ll make it through just fine. Then plan on plenty of outdoor activity over the weekend with temperatures about 20 degrees cooler. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Look For Some Wicked Heat Coming Our Way

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Look For Some Wicked Heat Coming Our Way

Currently 64 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:34 pm.

Mostly cloudy morning to partly cloudy afternoon. High in the mid 70s. E winds 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy with overnight showers and thunderstorms possible. Low in the lower 60s. SE winds 5-10 mph.

There is a Heat Advisory in effect from Wed. 12 pm through Thursday 2 am. Heat index to 102 is likely.

There’s a huge high-pressure dome hanging around that’s going to tuck us smack dab in the middle of it over the next two or three days. Today won’t be bad but get ready for tomorrow and possibly Thursday.  We haven’t been involved in much of the excessive high heat a lot of the country has had to deal with, but we’re going to get a little taste of it. Nothing like the triple digit numbers too many states have been sweltering under but could definitely be in the low 90s with a dangerous heat index. Be cautious, stay hydrated and be smart.

Monday, Aug. 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Starting Out Good

Monday, Aug. 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Starting Out Good

Currently 68 with an average wind from the ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 30.11, Humidity 83%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:54 am, Sunset 8:35 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the lower 80s. E winds around 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 60s. E winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20 overnight.

Not a bad temperature today. We are building up to a couple of warm ones about mid-week. Along with some possible rain. Once we get past that, the temperature appears to level off into the 70s and stays there. As of now, that’s our future picture. We know how that goes, but it’s looking okay for the most part. Nothing drastic for us. No flooding, no smoke-filled air, no excess heat…comfort seems to be the name of our game.
