Thursday, Jan. 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Sun Today Before Cold Sets Back In

Thursday, Jan. 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Sun Today Before Cold Sets Back In

Currently 31 degrees with a SSW  wind of 15 mph dropping that way down to feeling like 20. Dew Point 17, Barometer 29.77 & falling, Humidity 57%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:53 pm. Some sunshine this morning becoming more cloudy in the afternoon. Windy. High 38. WSW winds of 20 – 30 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance for some snow flurries overnight. Low 27. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not a bad little morning going on. In fact, I’m thinking of getting out and getting all my errands done today. Tomorrow won’t be horrid, but it’s all downhill after that. Cold. Some significant snow coming around Saturday. Yup…still winter and I do my very best to avoid as much of it as possible. Staying in, staying warm works for me.

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Skies, No Big Snow Today

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Skies, No Big Snow Today

Currently 20 degrees with a WNW wind of 2 mph dropping that only slightly to feeling like 19. Dew Point 11, Barometer 30.47 & rising, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:51pm. Mostly cloudy with a small chance of some snow showers, high 27. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a few snow flurries. Low 23. S winds 15 – 25 mph.

Nothing much going on today in the weather. Keeping an eye on next Saturday when it sounds as if we could get some significant snow. We never really know until the happening happens. I always count on the worst and then am pleased when that doesn’t turn out to be the case. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Saturday, but I’ll tend to my errands and traveling around on Friday just in case. Seems like the way to live here in Michigan in the winter. Not that we aren’t occasionally caught off guard, but planning ahead seems the sensible thing. It works for me, anyway.

Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter’s Back

Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter’s Back

Lots of Mourning Doves  Morning Feeding

Currently 20 degrees with a N wind of 13 mph dragging that down to feeling like 7. Dew Point 15, Humidity 80%, Visibility 0.3 mi, Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:50 pm. 90% chance of morning snow with cloudy afternoon skies. High 27. N winds 10 – 20 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low near 15. NNW wind 10 – 15 mph.

Oh yes, winter is back with snow and cold. Measured 2″ of snow on the ground this morning where up to today, it had been looking nicely bare. Oh well…we’re heading into February so I can see light at the end of this wintry tunnel…granted, I have so squint and look hard, but I see it.

Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny Turning To Clouds

Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny Turning To Clouds

\Currently 35 degrees with a NNE wind of 7 mph making that feel like 29. Dew Point 23, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:49 pm.  Sunny this morning turning into afternoon clouds. High mid 30s. NNE winds 5 -1 0 mph.

Cloudy, low 19. NNE winds 10 – 15 mph.

It’s a lovely Sunday morning, sunny, rather crisp. I think this will be the turning point with our temperatures as they seem set to start heading down. It’s inevitable whether we like that or not, so we’d best decide to if not like it, go along with it without complaint. So I shall certainly try.

Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But Still Comfortable

Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But Still Comfortable

Currently 39 degrees with a W wind of 18 mph dropping that to 30. De3 Point 30, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:47 pm. Partly cloudy with a high around 40. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

A few passing clouds, low 26. WSW winds 56 – 10 mph.

Still hanging in here with our  January thaw temperatures. Feeling mighty fine. The Jet Stream is still being kind to us and we appreciate that. Once it gets on the move again, it will do its usual swoop that leaves us nestled into the cold air, but for now, we’re riding it in comfort.

Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning Sunshine With Afternoon Clouds

Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning Sunshine With Afternoon Clouds

Currently 39 with a S wind of 12 mph making that feel like 32 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.20 & falling, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:46 pm. Morning sunshine will give way to some afternoon clouds. High 47. SSW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a 20% chance of rain showers. Low 41. SSW winds 15 – 25 mph.

So far, so good with this weather. Our January thaw seems to be holding winter at bay for the time being, which is much appreciated. We know it will come roaring back in when given a chance, but these blizzardless, iceless, snowless days are a blessing we are hoping will last longer than Mother Nature is bound to grant us. But for now….

All sorts of dire forecasts about this year’s flu. Even those of us who get our annual flu shot are evidently not all that well protected against this one that it seems managed to sneak in from Australia and surprise everyone. And it’s a bad one. If you haven’t had it yet, do everything you can to protect yourself. Try to avoid crowds, and above all wash or disinfect your hands constantly. It seems to be our only hope for preventing it. Stay healthy.

Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Maybe A Peek At The Sun

Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Maybe A Peek At The Sun

Currently 29 with a SSW wind of 8 mph dragging that down to feeling like 21 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.42 & rising, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:45 pm. Cloudy becoming partly cloudy. High 37. S wind 5 -10 mph.

Mostly clear tonight. Low 28. SSE wind 5 – 10 mph.

Sounds as if we will have another couple of days of this January thaw temperature to keep us up out of the frigid stuff – and then the bottom falls out and down we go again. February is a cruel, cold month as a general rule and the one coming up looks  determined to fit firmly into that routine.

At least we should be some sunshine today and that will be the first in about 3 days. We’ve had something like 1% sunshine since that time slot started. 1%? I must have missed it ’cause I don’t even recall that much of it showing up. Anyway, today – maybe – we can brighten up and lighten up and simply enjoy the occasional peeks at blue sky.

Wednesday, Jan 24, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Tody

Wednesday, Jan 24, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Tody

Currently 22 with a NW wind of 4 mph dropping that to feel like 16 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.25 & rising, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:045 am, Sunset 5:43 pm. Cloudy today with a high near 29. WNW wind 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy tonight. Low near 20. Light and variable winds.

Looking ahead, it doesn’t – for now – appear to have much in the line of precipitation heading our way.  A nice quiet, mild forecast .  Our on again, off again January thaw seems to be hanging in there for awhile. Can only hope this holds true.

Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Light Snow Falling

Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Light Snow Falling

Currently 29 degrees with a WNW wind of 18 mph dropping that to feeling like 17. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.64 & rising, Humidity 89%, Visibility 0.5 mi, Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:42 pm. 100% chance of light snow, high 30, NW winds 15 – 25 mph.

Cloudy with a low of 21. NW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Didn’t think it was going to snow today but there it is. Snowing again.  So tired of it. And I know, this is Michigan and this is January, so it’s going to snow. And it is. But that doesn’t make me any happier to see it.

Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – A Rainy Day

Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – A Rainy Day

Currently 36 degrees with an ESE wind of 15 mph making that feel like 26. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.77 & falling, Humidity 97%, Visibility 2 mi, Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:41. 100% chance of rain with a few morning thunderstorms. High 47. ESE winds 10 – 20 mph.

60% chance of overnight rain, probably mixed with some snow. Low 33. S winds 10 – 15 mph.

Found .71″ of rain in the gauge this morning. All rain. Lovely. Nothing like laying in bed listening to thunder roll about. Made me – almost – think it’s spring. I know. I know. Not yet, but soon.  Going to get some snow mixed with it and  maybe the chance for some sort of frozen mix tomorrow, but for the most part, not a bad week coming at us.

I love a rainy day!
