Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021-SW Michigan-Last Day Of January-Cold, Snow

Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021-SW Michigan-Last Day Of January-Cold, Snow

Currently 24 with an average wind from the N of 6 mph. Feels like 14 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 100%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:53 pm.

90% chance of snow showers. High in the mid 30s. ENE winds 15-25 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 30% chance of snow showers. Low 21. NE winds 10-20 with gusts to 25 mph.

Snow will gradually wind down this afternoon. It’s been light off and on all morning. Might get a few more flakes overnight but then we should jolly well see some peeks of sunshine early this week. Especially Tuesday and Wednesday. Snow will return again on Thursday. Winter Storm Orlena hasn’t treated us badly but for those living along the East Coast that will be a different story. The storm will likely morph into a dandy Nor’Easter which will give them a totally different opinion of Orlena. All I can say is once again, we apparently lucked out. Color me happy about that. Could have been so much worse – I measured about 3″ of new snow in my little backyard this morning – and I strongly suspect we’re going to get hammered at some point in the not too distant future. We’re heading into what is usually the worst of winter, so shouldn’t be surprised when that gives us a hefty reminder or two of what winter is really all about.

Saturday, Jan 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Cloudy, Snow Coming Tonight

Saturday, Jan 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Cloudy, Snow Coming Tonight

Currently 25 with an average wind from the N of 6 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.29, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:52 pm.

Overcast today with a high in around 28. E  winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a 100% chance of snow. 1-3″ expected. E winds 15-25. Low around 25 degrees.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Sunday Evening.

Okay, so I guess here comes Winter Storm Orlena. We’ll either get 1-3″ or 2-4″ – depending, I guess on the capriciousness of the storm. Once again, it does look as if the brunt of the storm will pass to the south of us. We do seem to luck out that way quite often. Either slides to the south or curves up to the north of us. I know snow enthusiasts aren’t particularly happy with this pattern, but it suits me just fine. At any rate, as of right now the bigger numbers of snowfall will be the south of us closer to the Michigan Indiana border. May it stay as such!

Friday, Jan. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold, Cold, Cold

Friday, Jan. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold, Cold, Cold

Currently 17 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 10 degrees. Dew Point 12, Barometer 30.42, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:50 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high near 20. Light winds.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Low near 10. E winds 10 mph.

Seemed like every time I woke up last night, the furnace was on. No surprise. My gauge showed 15 degrees when I went out to feed the critters and birds this morning. Tonight should be even colder. And the sunshine won’t help help us feel any warmer today. It’ll be bright. But it’ll be bright and cold. No snow on the horizon until Sunday – officially. So – the beastly cold is the front end of the Winter assault on our senses with Winter Storm Orlena being the second half. Sounds like a lot of fun, right? Yeah…right. Bundle up, keep your snow shovel at the ready and we shall get though this little bout of brutality from Mother Nature.

Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold With Afternoon Snow Moving In

Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold With Afternoon Snow Moving In

Currently 18 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 12, Barometer 30.52, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:49 pm.

Partly sunny morning becoming a cloudy afternoon with a 50% chance of snow showers. high lower 20s. Light winds becoming NW 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low 10-15. NW winds 5 -10 mph.

Was only about 17 degrees with morning when I went out to feed the birds and critters. That’s cold. Tonight will be colder. No idea of where the snow is coming from today. It wasn’t in yesterday’s version of today, but hey…we take whatever Mother Nature decides to deal out to us. Sounds like we could be in for a significant snow this weekend. Another wait and see situation, but it’s looking that way right now. Personally I’m using the cold weather to stay in and tend to chores I want to get done before Spring rolls around and I lose interest in inside things. Shuffling around some furniture, tackling closets again…you know, the mundane stuff of keeping a tidy house. It always feels great to wake up the next morning knowing things are organized and whatnot. Doesn’t help the fact that it’s cold and miserable outside, but it does help take attention off of it for a time. Anything helps far as I’m concerned. Nothing I hate worse than cold. And it’s cold.

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Nice Days Before Next Storm

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Nice Days Before Next Storm

Currently 21 with an average wind from the SSE of 1 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30.3, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:48 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the mid 20s. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low near 10. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Got about 5″ from Winter Storm Nathaniel and we’re now set to get two or three days with some sunshine – cold, but still brighter than we’ve had lately. Then the next Winter Storm – Orlena – will hit us probably overnight Saturday and through Sunday. How much snow? Depends on whether you choose to go with the Euro model or the GFS model. The Euro has the brunt of the storm sliding down more to the south of us, but the GFS – or American model – seems intent on pushing that storm right on over us. Another wait and see situation. Me? I’m rooting for the Euro version but hey…nobody has so far given me any voice in the matter.  So – like you all, I’ll be finding out after the fact whether we get dumped on or not get all that much.  Orlena will make up her mind as she cruises across the country from West to East as all storms do as a general rule. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine. It makes it feel warmer than it is and anything that helps along that line is to be appreciated.

Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-4″ Of Snow, Still Light Snow Falling

Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-4″ Of Snow, Still Light Snow Falling

Currently 24 with an average wind from the SSW of 9 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 100%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:46 pm.

100% chance of snow with the possibility of some freezing drizzle mixed in during the morning hours. Snow in the afternoon. 2-3″ expected. High around 30. NE winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of evening snow showers then partly cloudy overnight. Low 15-20. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until around 4 pm this afternoon.

Winter Storm Nathaniel, although not putting in much of an appearance here in my little backyard until very late into the night managed to leave about 4″ for me to shovel through to get out to where I feed the critters and scatter nuts and seeds. Still snowing although it’s a light snow. Unless it picks up, I don’t see another 2 – 3″ today. Maybe another inch. We’ll see how it goes. At any rate, we didn’t manage to dodge this particular storm even though it hasn’t been a truly bad one. Not here, anyway. Plenty of places to the NW gained double digit snowfalls. It still hasn’t complete departed anywhere from the map as yet and the storm is still traveling across the country heading to what will end up being it’s final exit along the East Coast. Before that happens, the NE  coastline will be hit with snow and unfortunately in some places, ice, which is the worst. So plenty of states feeling the passing of Nathaniel. Throw in more snow moving in along the West Coast, the tornado damage in Alabama, and it’s a fairly active weather scene across the country.

Monday, Jan. 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Here Comes Winter Storm Nathaniel

Monday, Jan. 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Here Comes Winter Storm Nathaniel

Currently 26 with an average wind from the N of 3 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 91%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:45 pm.

Winter Storm Advisory in effect until Tuesday 4:00 pm. 2-4″ of snow possible.

Mostly cloudy this morning becoming cloudy. High around 30. NE winds 10 mph becoming 10-15 in the afternoon.

90% chance of snow. 2-3″ expected overnight. Low in the lower 20s. NE winds 10-20mph.

I guess we’re not going to escape Winter Storm Nathaniel. Expected to come visiting overnight and through most of tomorrow. I reckon we’re about due. We’ve been lucky to duck out on most of what’s swept across the country up to this point. Not all of Michigan has, as the upper part of Michigan seems to be hit by a lot of what winter stands for where we here in the lower SW part manage to sneak through mostly unscathed. This time we’re going to get scathed. Or whatever. Could end up with 4 or 5″ by the time it’s over and done. Then again, we might not. That’s the fun of weather watching. Never really know for sure until it hits and passes on what we’re left with. All I know for sure is I’m heading out to do errands early this morning, get it all over with and home to be a weather watcher from safe inside my little nest. Be safe out there, no matter what we get.

Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Dreary Colorless Sky

Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Dreary Colorless Sky

Currently 24 with an average wind from the E of 4 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 97%, Visibility 1.3 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, sunset 5:44 pm.

90% chance of snow today. Not expected any great accumulation.High around 30. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 20s. Light winds.

A light snow falling with a dull, dreary sky overhead this morning. I guess Winter Storm Nathaniel is the dude we’re dealing with the week, but so far, it doesn’t look as if he’s going to leave any great remembrance of his passing for us here in SW Michigan. Sounds like another near miss. I’m all for that. The more missing we do regarding these winter storms, the nicer it is – and the closer we get to Spring. You recall Spring? When actual color starts to appear again. Our scene isn’t all just black, gray and white? Big sigh…I sure do. Can’t wait.

Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunshine Today, Snow Tomorrow

Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunshine Today, Snow Tomorrow

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:42 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the upper 20s. W winds 10 mph.

Cloudy with a 60% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. Light winds becoming SE 10 mph.

Seeing the sunshine today makes it feel much nicer than the 27 degrees it actually is. Even the thought of snow moving in tonight and tomorrow doesn’t seem to matter all that much with the happy feeling sunshine brings to us. And looking ahead, I’m surprised to see our temperatures hovering around the lower 30 degree mark this coming week. Could be SO much worse than what we’re experiencing.  A little snow now and then a little drop in temperatures occasionally. So far, so good with this winter. Of course we still have the month of February to get through and that’s usually the worst winter month, but we can’t find much to complain about what we’ve been dealt thus far.

Friday, Jan. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-A Little Snow Today, More Sunday

Friday, Jan. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-A Little Snow Today, More Sunday

Currently 19 with an average wind from the WSW of 5 mph. feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 29.54, Humidity 83%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:41 pm.

Cloudy with a 60% chance of snow flurries or showers. High 22, WNW winds 10 -20 with gusts to 25.

Some overnight clouds with a 30% chance of evening snow showers. Low 17. WNW winds 5 -10 mph.

Some Lake Effect Snow today and a bit more coming on Sunday. The mention has been made of the possibility of some freezing rain on Monday. That’s definitely not a good thing. Hopefully by the time that rolls around it will have changed. Weather stuff does that – change. And often, especially here in the SW part of Michigan. And although we do get Lake Effect Snow here, we are fortunately just far enough inland from the lake to mostly escape the brunt of it. We really are lucky, we could be like Erie and Buffalo that get tremendous amounts of Lake Effect Snow on their end. Guess we can’t complain. Well, we can, but why?  At any rate, a bit of snow today and it won’t amount to much as far as accumulation.
