Friday, August 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Mornings Make You Think Of School Days

Friday, August 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Mornings Make You Think Of School Days

Currently 66 with a SSE wind of 9 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.15 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:05 am, Sunset 8:18 pm. Partly cloudy morning to a sunny afternoon, high 82. SSE winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with the chance of  a stray thunderstorm. Low 68. SSE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Oh yes…right about now, with the mornings so cool and crisp, I always think about going back to school. New clothes, new shoes, a little fear, a little anxiety, a lot of eagerness…No matter how old I get, there go my thoughts wandering away at this time of year.

In the meantime, it was suddenly chilly here after so many hot dry days and it’s quite a change. Starts you thinking flue shot time is coming along, time to start messing around with the time change again (when is someone with a brain going to stop that nonsense?), and watching the birds and critters outside begin to take on a slightly more hurried manner. I’m sure they feel the season changes much earlier than we do and begin their seasonal preparation before we get around to ours.

Thursday, August 30, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Clouds, Cooler

Thursday, August 30, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Clouds, Cooler

Currently 55 with a NNE wind of 5 mph. Feels like 54. Dew Point 52, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.23 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:04 am, Sunset 8:19 pm. Partly cloudy this morning becoming generally sunny this afternoon. High 72.

Mostly clear overnight skies. Low 55. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

Difficult to admit, but it’s chilly enough this morning for long jeans and a 3/4 sleeve shirt. What a difference a day makes. 12 hours and suddenly it’s Fall. Well, it really isn’t, but it most certainly feels like it. This morning demanded an extra cup of hot coffee.

I’m hearing that the Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting colder and above normal precipitation for my area this winter. Swell. Colder with more snow. I can tell you right now I’m going to hate this winter with a purple passion.

Wednesday, August 29, 2018 South West Michigan – A Wild Night Of Weather

Wednesday, August 29, 2018 South West Michigan – A Wild Night Of Weather

Currently 68 with a WSW winds of 3 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 67, Humidity 96%, Barometer 29.88, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:21 pm. Cloudy with a 50% chance of occasional rain showers. High 73. WNW winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 51. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Had plenty of Severe Storm Alerts and Warnings last night. Nothing horrid happened in my immediate area, but we did get  wind and another 1.75″ of rain. Power flickered on and off a few times. But except for small branches and plenty of loose leaves, I’m not seeing anything drastic from here this morning. That’s a whopping 5.45″ in three days. Considering we were about as dry as the Sahara, this is amazing. No wonder there are some flood watches out for low lying areas.  The next handful of days should dry things about for us until the next opportunity for any rain – about next Monday.

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Bout Of Rain Last Night/Today

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Bout Of Rain Last Night/Today

Currently 65 with a SSE wind of 6 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.38, Visibility 3 mi, Sunrise 7:02 am, Sunset 8:23 pm. 60% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. High 87. SE winds 10 – 20 mph.

100% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight. Some storms could be severe. Low 68. SW winds 10 -15 mph.

After getting 2.4″ of rain the other night, another 1.40″ last night seemed like plenty. However, it’s raining right now and sounds like it’s going to be raining, at least off and on, until tomorrow. So…all the rain we’ve been needing for so long is finally here. But all in one fell swoop. Not good, Mother Nature. Not good.

Evidently the power went off at some point during the night because all of the miserable digital clocks are blinking like mad. Plus the fact that this was the only morning, seriously, the only morning I had to be up at a certain time as I have an early morning appointment to attend to. Go figure.  I usually don’t say this, but thank goodness for the cat being insistent on it being breakfast time, and I woke up in time to tend to  everything. But just barely, so I’m off and away, out into the rain. But at least awake.

Monday, August 27, 2018 South West Michigan – A Night Of Heavy Rain

Monday, August 27, 2018 South West Michigan – A Night Of Heavy Rain

Currently 71 with a S wind of 8 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 71, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 7:00 am, Sunset 8:25 pm. Cloudy, possible peeks at the sun later today. High 88-89. SW winds 15 – 25 mph.

50% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low 74. SSW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Flood Advisory in effect today. We did get 2.30″ of rain overnight in my gauge which is a whopping amount. The most we’ve had since – well, I can’t even remember when. We needed that rain, but perhaps not all at once. There is still a good chance for more rain here through Wednesday. There is also a chance for some severe weather coming along our way. We’ll need to be watching and paying attention.

Sunday, August 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Dense Fog Morning

Sunday, August 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Dense Fog Morning

Currently 71 with fog and a WSW wind of 1 mph. Feels like 71 degrees, Dew Point 70, Humidity 98%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 1.4 mi, Sunrise 6:59 am, Sunset 8:26 pm. Morning for with a partly cloudy afternoon. High around 89. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

50% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Low 73. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Quite foggy this morning and the air is so close with the dew point and barometer numbers being so high. The air is more water than anything else – or at least it seems like it. The fog should clear out eventually, but the humidity and the heat will remain for today and probably tomorrow.

Saturday, August 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Nothing But Clouds, Possible Rain, Today

Saturday, August 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Nothing But Clouds, Possible Rain, Today

Currently 66 with a S wind of 11 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 97%, Barometer 29.92 & falling, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:28 pm. 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms. High 78. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Areas of fog. Low 68. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

We did get .13″ of overnight rain. Woke to thunder but precious little rain to go along with it even though there was a weather alert in place for a possible storm. As has been the case, it seems to have gone someplace else. Sunday through Tuesday the heat returns with the possibility of rain Monday and Tuesday and by Wednesday, it should have all cleared out, leaving sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Not the best weekend weather, but not much anyone can do about that.

Friday, August 24, 2018 South West Michigan – Might Be Some Rain Moving In Over Next Few Days

Friday, August 24, 2018 South West Michigan – Might Be Some Rain Moving In Over Next Few Days

Currently 65 with a S wind of 9 mph. Feels like 65 degrees, Dew Point 55, Humidity 70%, Barometer 30.06 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:57 am, Sunset 8:30 pm. Partly cloudy to cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon rain. High 77. S winds 10 – 20 mph.

70% chance of light rain with scattered thunderstorms popping up. Low 63. SSE winds 10 – 15 mph.

There appears to be a chance for some rain over the next 4 or 5 days. Doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to be getting any, but the opportunity is hanging out there. We could use some. We’ll see.

Watching the ‘preparation’ for Hurricane Lane in Hawaii and I’m underwhelmed by it all. Are those people so blase that nothing fazes them or simply…well, simple? Beyond clearing out the grocery stores and – yes, they really were doing this – busy building a 3 ft. ‘berm’ of loose sand along the beach – I don’t see much going on. Umbrellas still flapping in the wind, no windows bordered up, people wandering around with umbrellas and a few standing out on cliff side areas with 20 ft. waves dashing up at them. Probably the most nonchalant place I’ve ever seen in my many years of hurricane watching. Sort of harkens back to New Orleans where they were so unprepared and allowed a wingnut to herd thousands of them into a sports arena with no toilet facilities, no food, no water, no…well, nothing. Or they all simply stayed in homes that ended up totally flooded and then – again, thousands of them – had to be rescued. And they all expected things to go well. What is it about these places? Hawaii – islands in the middle of an ocean. New Orleans, a bowl, virtually under sea level depending on aged levies to save them. Doesn’t anyone think ahead anymore? I don’t know…I guess I expect more sense from people. Silly me.

Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Morning, Warming Up Later

Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Morning, Warming Up Later

Currently 61 with a SW wind of 3 mph. Feels like 61. Dew Point 59, Humidity 95%, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:51 pm. Sunny today with a high near 80. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear overnight skies, low 57. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

A chilly morning but with the sky clear and the sun shining, it should warm up nicely today. Nights, dropping down into the 50 degree range are much better for sleeping – without the A/C, or lately not even the need for a fan. So there is something good there. I doubt our temperatures will hit a whole lot of high numbers anymore this season, although in saying that, I see that Sunday could bring us briefly up close to 90. That will start dropping by Monday and we’ll be back into the 70s the rest of the  week. I guess a flare up or two is to be expected, but for a long term bout of steamy weather now? Now very likely again until next year.

You can tell the weather is changing as the bees are becoming more aggressive out around the Humming Bird feeder. I’ve seen them chase the little birds away and they’ve done a pretty fair job on keeping me at bay, too. Happens every year about this time.

Wednesday, August 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Sun, Some Clouds

Wednesday, August 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Sun, Some Clouds

Currently 61 with a NW wind of 11 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 53. Humidity 74%, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:33 pm.  Sunny to partly cloudy with a high of 76. NW winds 10 -20 mph.

Low tonight 55.

Feels so cool this morning compared to what we’ve experienced lately that a hint of fall hangs in the air. I’m not happy about that. Yes, the cool air is rather refreshing, but no…any suggestion of the seasons to come isn’t welcome in my world. Not to me. So I’m happy to see that next week the heat will be returning. I may be one of the only ones standing here cheering that news, but I sure am doing just that. The longer I can hang on to summer the better.
