We finally did get some rain.  .61″ of it, as a matter of fact. It was a delight to wake up about 3:00 this morning to the sound and smell of rain. Been awhile. Things do look a bit perkier, greener outside this morning. It would be lovely if today was an all day rain, but I think we’ll only be getting light showers. We’ll take whatever we get.

100% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low 66. ESE winds 10 -15 mph.

Okay – fingers really crossed for tonight’s rain to materialize. It looks promising but then so many forecasts have resulting in nothing more than a handful of raindrops. Going to be a whole lot of folks grateful to be woken up by the sound of thunder tonight – if it happens.

Sunday, August 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Lots Of Clouds, No Rain

Currently 68 with a SE wind of 4 mph. Feels like 68. Dew Point 68, Humidity 99%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 4 mi, Sunrise 6:51 am, Sunset 8:38 pm. 40% chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms. High 81. Light and variable winds.

Yesterday’s sky brought us tons of clouds, but only a trace of rain. This seems to be the way it goes here this year. Still waiting for a nice day long, steady, gentle rain. Been a long, long time since we were lucky enough to get one of those. Or any goodly amount of rain in any form, come to think of it.

Saturday, August 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Finally Got A Bit Of Rain

Partly cloudy overnight, low 64. Light and variable winds.

Okay, so one of those stray showers finally wandered over in our direction. We did get .15″ of rain yesterday, which I know isn’t much, but it’s sure more than we’ve been getting. The chance for more is always out there lately but alas…so rarely does it ever materialize. We’re grateful for what we got yesterday. Our abnormally dry conditions continue here.

Friday, August 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Abnormal Dry Conditions Continue

Friday, August 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Abnormal Dry Conditions Continue

Currently 70 with a NNE wind of 1 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 70, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.93 & rising, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 6:49 am, Sunset 8:41pm. Partly to mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of thunderstorms. High 84. NE winds  5 – 10 mph.

Same thing for tonight with a low of 64. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

All of those  chances for a ‘stray’ shower followed suit and wandered far enough away from my area of the state that dry continues to be the word here. There are places in Michigan getting an occasional rain, but certainly not here in SW Michigan. Abnormal Dry seems to be verging on serious Drought and it isn’t good. And today is so humid you could almost wring the moisture out of the air – but it’s not helping our dry vegetation. Not one bit. We simply need rain!

Thursday, August 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Expecting, Hoping, For Some Rain

Thursday, August 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Expecting, Hoping, For Some Rain

Currently 72 with an average wind from the ESE of 4 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:48 am, Sunset 8:42 pm. 60% chance of showers or thunderstorms today, high 83. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight with the chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm rolling through. Low 67. Light and variable winds.

The temperature isn’t all that high this morning, but with the dew point and humidity so elevated, it feels warmer than some of the other hot days we’ve recently gone through. Fingers crossed that some of the precipitation supposedly drifting around up there makes its way to my area. We keep hearing about a stray shower but they insist on straying far beyond our reach.  We know that eventually the chilly fall rains will begin, but those are not welcome rains for the most part. Those are the ones that start to remind you how cold you’re bound to be in no time at all, and they do an powerful job of knocking down any leaves trying to brighten out world with color. No…what we need, and have needed for some time, are some good, rejuvenating summer rains. Yeah, like I said, fingers crossed.

Wednesday, August 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot, Slight Chance of Overnight Rain

Wednesday, August 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot, Slight Chance of Overnight Rain

Currently 74 with a SSW wind of 5 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 81%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 6:47 am, Sunset 8:44 pm. A mix of sun and clouds will become cloudy with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm later in the afternoon. High 88. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms tonight. Low 68. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

We keep hearing about the chance for rain, but it keeps not happening. We really need the rain. Never seen so many dry leaves laying around on the ground this early in the season. It’s simply the dryness. They aren’t changing into the beauty of Autumn, they are simply giving up the ghost, letting go, and falling on the ground. It’s crazy. This has been the hottest, driest summer  I can remember. Not a fun one at all. Something not fair here. We has a rotten Spring, a Summer to hot to enjoy and who knows what we’ll be getting for the next couple of seasons. Weird.  I know. Could be worse. It’s so much worse in so many other places. Seems rather shameful to be complaining. But we expect SO much from our Spring and Summer seasons and when they fail so miserably to live up to expectations, a little complaining is to be expected. I’ll try to keep it at a minimum :>)

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Gonna Be A Hot One

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Gonna Be A Hot One

Currently 75 with a WSW wind of 6 mph. Feels like 75. Dew Point 67, Humidity 78%, Barometer 29.95 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:46 am, Sunset 8:45 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy, high 89. W winds  10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 67. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Still holding out the chance of some rain Wednesday through Friday, but in all honesty, the percentage seems to be dwindling. And we are still in need of some good soakings. All I know is we’re definitely not getting any today and it’s going to be a mighty warm one – again.

Monday, August 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds Beginning To Gather

Monday, August 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds Beginning To Gather

Currently 73 with a SE wind of 2 mph. Feels like 73 degrees, Dew Point 65, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:45 am, Sunset 8:47 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 87. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low 64. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not much of a breeze stirring the humid air this morning, so it does feel rather close. Chances are building that we could get some much needed rain beginning on Wednesday right through about Saturday. You would think in all of those possible days, we’d catch a break and get some precipitation, wouldn’t you? My fingers are crossed. We shall see.

Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot Summer Weather Continues

Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot Summer Weather Continues

Currently 79 with an E wind of 5 mph. Feels like a warm 83 degrees out there already. Dew Point 63, Humidity 59%, Barometer 30.11, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:48 pm. Sunny today with a high of 86. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 62. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Wonderful – but dry – summer weather continues. For some – like for instance my youngest son whose home A/C has died – this hot summer weather isn’t really so wonderful, but for those of us who can duck into the A/C cooled house for relief, it’s pretty good. There is a small chance of a bit of rain about midweek, but for now, dry is the way things continue around here.
