Sunday, April 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Finally A Sunny, Pleasant Sunday

What a glorious Spring Sunday. Stopped in to Lowe’s and the parking lot was packed. Everyone has been fairly frothing at the mouth to get going on Spring outdoor tasks. And they were pretty much all at that store shopping for supplies. :>)

Except for a chance at some showers next Tuesday and perhaps Friday, the coming week’s weather looks to be wonderful for a change. I think Winter has finally thrown in the towel and retreated to a far corner. Sure been one heck of a fight but Spring has come out the winner. Thank goodness!

Saturday, April 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But A Bit Warmer

Saturday, April 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But A Bit Warmer

Well, nothing special going on, which is fine. No precipitation expected, which is also good. No sunshine today but that’s okay also as at least our temperature will be up in the 50 degree range. Been awhile waiting for it to get there. So no complaints about this dandy Saturday. Things are looking up, weather-wise. Can’t beat that.

Friday, April 20, 2018 South West Michigan – Spring Might Be Setting In

This morning is beautiful. Slightly cool  yet but promising to warm up nicely. I heard – and I dare say I’m setting my mind on believing it – that we might even get up close to a 70 degree day next week. YES! Now this is what I’m talking about. It’s going to be so nice to see buds beginning to bloom and blossom. And since my tiny backyard faces north and never gets any sun, it will be super nice to finally have the snow melted away from the corners and around the places I would like to be getting out and raking up some leaves from. Getting pretty exciting about this. Spring might finally be putting in an appearance.

Thursday, April 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Not Buds Or Blossoms, Snow On The Treetops

Thursday, April 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Not Buds Or Blossoms, Snow On The Treetops

Currently 33 with an average NNW wind of 10 mph dragging that down to feeling like 24. Dew Point 24, Humidity 70%, Barometer 30.19 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:53 am, Sunset 8:29 pm. Sunny today with a high near 50. NNW winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear skies overnight, low 27. NNW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Should be taking pictures of buds or blossoms in the trees by now but no…we have snow. Yes, it’s picturesque, but no, it’s not nice or proper or desirable.

Noticing the various birds that don’t usually feed together are having no trouble this so-called spring feeding near each other. The song birds are starving. I watched a couple of squirrels – a black one and a red one that don’t, as a general rule, associate together, dashing down to pick up food that I’d broadcast for them – and even that while the little stray cat that I feed was quite nearby. Nobody cares right now. They simply need food. This is one horrid, miserable Spring. Hopefully this will be the last of our snow. Fingers crossed.

Wednesday, April 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Still More Snow Coming Tonight

Wednesday, April 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Still More Snow Coming Tonight

Currently 32 with a NE wind of 7 mph dragging that down to 25. Dew Point 24, Humidity 72%, Barometer 29.89 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:27 pm. Cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon rain. High 46. ENE winds 10 – 15 mph.

A rain/snow night coming. 1″ of snow possible. Low 29. NNE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Okay….fingers crossed that the snow tonight will be our last for the season…you know, winter, the season that should be long gone by now. So far everything outside seems to be seriously searching for spring. Even the little stray cat that I’ve been feeding all year, looks like he’s not so interested in anything but not having to see anymore snow…like me, my fellow humans, the birds, the critters…we’re all sick to death of snow. Like I said, fingers crossed.

Tuesday, April 17, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Snow Flurries Possible

Tuesday, April 17, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Snow Flurries Possible

Currently 30 with an average WNW wind of 16 mph dragging that down to feeling like 19. Dew Point 21, Humidity 67%, Barometer 29.74 & rising, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:26 pm. Cloudy with a chance of additional snow showers. High in the mid 30s. WNW winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight. Low 22. WNW winds 10 -20.

There is simply something wrong about a Robin having a background of snow. I have a couple of fat ones who feed on the ground back where I toss bird seed, and they cautiously come up to drink from the ground heated bird bath. This is NOT what they flew north to experience and I’m pretty sure they aren’t any happier about this weather than we are. We’re all simply trying to hold on and last this out. The birds and the people. I hope we all make it.

Monday, April 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Continues This Spring

Monday, April 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Continues This Spring

Currently 32 with a W wind of 9 mph dropping that down to feeling like 25. Dew Point 34, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.64, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:25pm. 50% chance of snow showers. High in the mid 30s. WNW winds 15-25 mph.

50% chance of overnight snow showers. Lowe 25. WNW winds 15-25 mph.

Had .52″ of precipitation in the rain gauge this morning. That was a combination of snow/ice/sleet. There is absolutely nothing good to say about this weather and so this is me, saying nothing.

Sunday, April 15, 2018 South West Michigan-Overnight Ice, More Coming

Sunday, April 15, 2018 South West Michigan-Overnight Ice, More Coming

Currently 42 with an average wind of ENE wind of 16 mph dropping that down to feeling like 35 degrees. Dew Point 36, Humidity 77%, Barometer 29.77 & falling, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:22pm. Cloudy today with a 70% chance of additional precipitation. High 45. ENE winds 10 -20 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. 1″ possible. Low 34. ENE winds 20 – 30 mph.

Although rain is forecast for today, we have just had an alert issued for sleet. Which is worrisome for tonight, too. That 100% chance of overnight rain just might turn out to be more ice and right now we’ve got plenty of that coating everything.  .64″ of precipitation in the rain gauge this morning but that was a combination of rain, snow, ice. There is ice on every surface that I see outside this morning. If a Winter Storm comes along, I so wish, as much as I detest snow, we would get into the snow range rather than ice like we did this one. Ice is treacherous and tricky. Dangerous.

Saturday, April 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Saturday, April 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Currently 33 with an ENE wind of 26 mph dragging that down to feeling like 20 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Visibility 2.1 mi, Sunrise 7:01 am, Sunset 8:23 pm. Winter Storm Warning in effect until Sunday. Windy today. ENE winds 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. 100% chance of morning rain changing to afternoon freezing rain. Snow/ice accumulation expected to be less than 1″. Temperatures steady in the low to mid 30s.

Windy tonight. ENE winds 25-35mph. 90% chance of freezing rain. Significant icing possible. Low around 28.

Was awake from about 3 this morning listening to that roaring wind way up high as it howled along. This has to be one monster storm blasting across the country. I’m only grateful that wind wasn’t at ground level. What we have going on down here is bad enough but that sounded like hurricane force wind up high.

This is one horrible storm, this Winter Storm Xanto. Snow, wind, ice, hail, sleet – and tornadoes to the south. It’s a massive storm covering so much ground it’s hard to believe. What is harder to believe is that this is mid-April. This would be a wicked storm in mid-winter, but now? In the Spring? It’s insane.

Very possible I won’t have power for a posting tomorrow. So I’ll be back whenever it’s possible.
