Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunshine Today!

Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunshine Today!

Currently 14 degrees with a WNW wind of 5 mph dragging that down to feeling like 7. Dew Point 8, Barometer 30.64 & rising, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 6:09pm. Lots of sunshine today. High 23. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

A few overnight clouds, low 7. Light and variable winds.

No precipitation today! Nothing but sunshine. Sure, it’s cold, but who cares? The sun is shining. February, typically a truly crummy winter month, is giving us a fairly nice week coming up. Thursday might bring around a chance for rain, which in the winter usually doesn’t bode good, but other than that, not a bad week coming up.

The picture is at my daughter-in-law’s workplace this morning. She’s fairly tall, so those snow piles are not small…nothing that’s going to melt away in a big hurry, that’s for sure, because without a doubt there will be more snow added to them before Spring rolls around.

Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow And More Snow

Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow And More Snow

Currently 22 degrees with a NW wind of 5 mph making it feel like 15. Dew Point 17, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Humidity 82%, Visibility 0.5 mi, Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 6:07 pm. 100% chance of snow showers today, high 23. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight, low 8. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

So…the second half of the persistent Winter Storm Mateo came through and gave us another 3 inches of snow. Makes a ground cover of about 11.5″ in my tiny backyard. That’s enough. It just keeps on snowing. Day after day after day after day….

And yes I realize we had a couple of snowless days in January. But they seem like a faint memory now. Just snow. Always snow these day.

Tomorrow we should actually see some sunshine. Can’t wait. It will be rather like a holiday.

Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Might Be A Break Today From New Snow

Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Might Be A Break Today From New Snow

Currently 17 degrees with a NNE wind of 5 mph dropping that to feeling like 10. Dew Point 10, Barometer 30.24, Humidity 74%, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 7:46 am, Sunset 6:06 pm. Generally cloudy today with a high of 23. Light and variable winds.

70% chance of overnight snow. 1-3″ expected. Low 15. Light and variable winds.

Supposedly no new snow today. That’s a good thing. The current snow and cold won’t be going anywhere, but at least we get a day with nothing new added to the snow total on the ground. We really don’t need any more. I measure a bit over 9″ average in my little back yard. That’s plenty. Feeling blessed that Winter Storm Mateo pretty much slid to the south and east of us. Not good news for others in the southern, eastern part of the state, but better news for us here in the South West corner.

We do have a River Flood Advisory in effect until further notice. As of 9am today the stage was 11.4 feet. Bankfull is 12.0. Flood stage is at 18 ft. so there’s a good ways to go yet before things get super serious. But the outlying areas, the low areas are still going to be getting water and ice they don’t need or want.

Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 South West Michigan – More Snow For Today

Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 South West Michigan – More Snow For Today

Currently 17 degrees with an ENE wind of 9 mph dropping that to feeling like 6. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.27 & falling, Humidity 85%, Visibility 0.3 mi, Sunrise 7:47 am, Sunset 6:05 pm.  There’s a 100% chance of more snow today. Another 1-3″ expected. I did measure 2″ of overnight snow this morning. High around 20. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight with the chance of some additional snow flurries. Low 12. Light and variable winds.

We do seem to be staying on the outer, upper edges of Winter Storm Mateo and this is good news for us. This month is already living up to its reputation of being a bad winter month. In all fairness it ought to be a whole lot shorter than just one measly day from the rest of them. Should be able to chop off a whole week or so and get on with the month of March. If I only had my druthers…..

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9pm today through Saturday morning.  Winter Storm Mateo appears to be taking aim at us. Hoping we’re on the upper edge of it and won’t see as much as those to the south in my state. We’ll soon see. Tonight will see an 80% chance of snow. 1-3″ expected, low 13. SSE winds 5 – 10 mph.

I guess if I’m going to get out of the house this week, today is the day. And I shall. Tomorrow and Saturday sound like a nightmare on the roads again. SO sick of snow and winter. It just keeps on keeping on. I’m busy fighting my usual winter blues. Trying to stay busy and think Spring. Not easy in spite of the zillions of things I have to do here in my little nest. Trying to dredge up the interest in doing any of it, there is the thing. Got the Winter Olympics to look forward to right quick here and that’s always a thrill for me. I hate to miss any of it, so I’ll be glued to the TV set for the duration. I can get busy with crafting while I’m watching and hopefully haul myself out of this winter slump.

Our most uneventful day of the week, so I think I’ll dash out to the library and the store. I plan to pretty much hibernate this week. Nothing but cold and snow…what’s the point? A great week to stay inside for me.

Currently 17 degrees with a N wind dropping that to feeling like 3. Dew Point 13, Barometer 29.90 & rising, Humidity 82%, Visibility 0.3 mi, Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 5:58 pm. 100% chance of morning snow which will diminish to afternoon snow showers. High 18. N winds 10 -20 mph. 1-3″ expected.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy. Low 6. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon today. Got about 4.5 ” overnight and it’s still snowing. And I’ll tell you, having shoveled the back out to where I feed the critters and shoveling the front sidewalk, it’s a heavy, wet snow. Not a good one for moving it around. I was careful, but I can sure feel it already. I hate winter!

Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow Expected

Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow Expected

Got about an inch of new snow overnight with more coming today and tomorrow. We never know here quite what to expect. We are so close to the lake that sometimes that lake effect wanders a bit in our direction, which could mean a bit more snow than is expected. I guess it’s a wait and see thing. The only thing it looks as if we can look forward to is at least some snow is coming our way.

So, the little rodent meteorologist saw his shadow and that means 6 more weeks of winter, right? Since he’s right about 50% of the time, I guess you can take that with whatever faith you can conjure up. At any rate, it’s darn cold here and looks to remain so.

The weather yesterday was weird. As I went into the theater, it was 25 degrees, not a bad day going on. When I came out two hours later it was 16 degrees with a wind blowing to hard it took your breath away. Probably because it felt as if it was full of tiny ice crystals or little bits of hard snowflakes. That wind was strong enough to rock the car on the road and looking into the distance it appeared to be a faint gray screen surrounded everything, a screen that you drove in and out off as you went along. Those tiny ice crystals at work, I suspect.  Cold, just bitter cold.
