Friday, July 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Comfortable Summer Weather

Friday, July 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Comfortable Summer Weather

Currently 68 with an average wind from the WNW of 5 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.9, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the lower 80s. NW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the mid 50s. NW winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light. Saturday looks to be another winner with the opportunity for rain coming in Sunday and Monday. Be watchful for some hot days coming in about next mid-week. Could see several 90-degree days. That might be modified by the time that rolls around, but perhaps not.  Just be prepared in case. The enormous area of high heat that has made the southwest and the south suffer is going to be enlarged and include many of our states to the north. Looks as if, although we won’t be suffering as long or as drastically as the southern states,  we are evidently going to pick up a share of it.

Thursday, July 20, 2023-SW Michigan-Almost Clear Morning Skies, Storms Later On

Thursday, July 20, 2023-SW Michigan-Almost Clear Morning Skies, Storms Later On

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 66%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:20 am, Sunset 9;16 pm.

Mostly sunny morning developing into a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High around 80, SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 becoming W 10-20 mph with gusts to 35 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 50s. NW winds 5-15 mph.

A lovely almost pure blue sky this morning. Occasional tiny white clouds wandering around. Don’t be deceived by this. It looks as if the possibility of severe storms will be moving in later this afternoon. It may be that, as so often has happened, we could be on the upper outside line of these storms. We could miss out on much or all of the severity this line of storms holds. I wouldn’t count on it 100% because we all know how things can change very quickly. Just be prepared for some rain and the possibility of storms just in case.

And be aware that the high heat dome covering much of the country to the SW and S of us is going to expand next week and our state will likely be suffering from some uncomfortable temperatures before we know it. We’ve pretty much lucked out so far, but our luck may be running out with this one. Once again, just be prepared should we be included in the higher numbers. I doubt we’ll even come close to being as hot as it has been in the SW and the S, but it could get mighty warm anyway. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Wednesday, July 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Beautiful Day, Overnight Rain Possible

Wednesday, July 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Beautiful Day, Overnight Rain Possible

Currently 73 with an average wind from the E of 1 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 29.97, Humidity 53%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:16 pm.

Mostly sunny until midday then becoming partly cloudy. High in the lower 80s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers. Low in the lower 60s. Light winds becoming S overnight.

Should be a great day with some clouds moving in later. Look for some rain tonight and tomorrow but otherwise no precipitation in sight for the rest of the week. A lovely summer week of weather continues for us in our area. Even the smoke and haze are much lighter than what we’ve been experiencing. It’s still bothering other states, but it seems to be clearing out for us.

Tuesday, July 18, 2023-SW Michigan-Splendid Summer Weather

Tuesday, July 18, 2023-SW Michigan-Splendid Summer Weather

Currently 70 with an average wind from the NE of 1 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 29.9, Humidity 56%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 70s. Light winds becoming W 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Mostly clear. Low in the mid 50s. Light winds.

This is a grand day. Comfortable temperatures, plenty of sunshine. Could not ask for more or better. Still looking for the chance of rain on Thursday, but otherwise it’s a nice week for us. Watching the terrible flooding and horrible heat elsewhere and still feeling very fortunate here in our area. My heart does go out to everyone suffering through those extremes.

Monday, July 17, 2023-SW Michigan-Air Quality Alert Still In Effect

Monday, July 17, 2023-SW Michigan-Air Quality Alert Still In Effect

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the mid 70s. W winds 5-15 mph.

Mostly clear with a low in the mid 50s. W winds 5=-10 mph in the evening becoming light overnight.

The Air Quality Alert remains in effect throughout today.

Today should present plentiful sunshine but that smoke and haze remains with us. Look for a chance of some rain around Thursday, otherwise a dandy week ahead. Not overly hot, lots of sunshine. Except for the crummy air condition, should be an ideal summer week.

Like everyone else who happened to be out and about yesterday, I was well aware of the Sunday smoke and haze with the air having just a faint off scent to it. In fact, the picture today is from my son, Glenn, who caught this resulting hazy scene while out driving. For me, except for causing a slight cough once in a while, none of it bothered me all that much. Last night was looking forward to the rain with my bedroom window wide open, as usual.  However, in this case, after the rain, I was left with the smell of a campfire that had been doused with water to ensure the embers were out. The smell of wet smoke. Very unpleasant. and it literally flooded through the room. I had to close my windows and turn on a fan to try and move the air around. Color me unhappy. I think I’ve had enough of the Canadian fires. Not that I can do anything about it, but man…I do hate having my bedroom windows closed. It does sound as if the conditions will be with us for some time to come as the fires don’t appear to be under any control at this time.

Sunday, July 16, 2023-SW Michigan-No Clouds, But Smoke And Haze

Sunday, July 16, 2023-SW Michigan-No Clouds, But Smoke And Haze

Currently 66 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29.71, Humidity 93%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:17 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

Mostly sunny with have and smoke throughout the day. High in the upper 70s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

60% chance of overnight rain with the possibility of a thunderstorm. Low in teh upper 50s. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Today will offer us plenty of sunshine. Also plenty of bad air coming again from the Canadian fires. Rain tonight will clear out and the rest of our week is looking just fine. Nothing overly hot, plentiful sunshine. Should be a grand summer week.

We are so fortunate not to have the issues the SW, S, and SE are undergoing. The record-breaking heat seems never ending, the flooding is beyond bad…seems like so many other areas of the US are having to deal with dreadful situations. I keep saying, although I’m not nuts about our winters, we are in a sweet spot as far as weather goes. I’m counting my blessings. I hope you are, too.

Saturday, July 15, 2023-SW Michigan-Chance Of Rain, Chance Of Sun

Saturday, July 15, 2023-SW Michigan-Chance Of Rain, Chance Of Sun

Currently 70 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.71, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy with a 70% chance of some rain or a thunderstorm showing up. High in the upper 70s. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers. Low in the lower 60s. W winds 5-10 mph.

Plenty of morning clouds, might see a bit of clearing in the afternoon. Or could see some rain. What a day, we have so many opportunities. At any rate, tomorrow should be a better day with only a slight chance of rain moving in. Should be a good Sunday to be out and about. At least for now, that’s what it looks like. And for certain, Monday and Tuesday are looking really good.

Last night the rain moved in just as predicted about 2:00. I got up to sit by the window and enjoy the rain, the thunder and the fresh feel to the air. I do love a rainy night.

Friday, July 14, 2023-SW Michigan-Rain On The Way

Friday, July 14, 2023-SW Michigan-Rain On The Way

Currently 68 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.72, Humidity 83%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:15 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

60% chance of showers with a chance of thunderstorms. High in the mid 80s. S winds 5-10 mph becoming SW 10-15 with gusts to 25 mph.

70% chance of showers and a chance of a thunderstorm. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds around 10 mph overnight.

Not much going on this morning but there are showers on the way with a marginal risk of severe storms. We’re not in the high-risk area, but the chance of possible harsh weather is there. Looking like rain tomorrow and maybe Sunday. Sunday’s probability is on the low side though, so it could turn out to be a good day for anything outdoors. As usual, a wait and see game. But right now, Monday is looking like a fine and dandy dry day.

Thursday, July 13, 2023-SW Michigan-Going To See Some Sunshine Today

Thursday, July 13, 2023-SW Michigan-Going To See Some Sunshine Today

Currently 61 with an average wind from the NW of 5 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 59, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:14 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Partly sunny until midday becoming mostly sunny. High in the upper 70s. NW winds around 5 mph becoming W in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 50s. W winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Had a great rainy day yesterday and today we will be seeing some sunshine today. Enjoy it ’cause looks as if rain will be coming back into our picture from Friday right on through until maybe Tuesday.  We can always use a bit of rain, but that sounds like overkill, so let’s hope it’s not anything steady – or even daily.

Wednesday, July 12, 2023-SW Michigan-Starting Out Sunny Today

Well, according to which weather station to pay attention to, we will either have rain every day for about ever or at least every other day for that same time frame. I think I’ll choose the every other day. Sounds rather interesting. At any rate, we should expect some rain this week. No telling about the weekend from here. One place says rainy Saturday, nice Sunday…another says rain the entire weekend. So, I guess we wait and see what we get.

One thing we can be grateful about is that the extreme heat being experienced in the south is not going to affect us. And they seem to be under that high heat condition with no relief in sight at all. The Great Lakes area is comfortable compared to elsewhere. No major flooding, no dangerous heat. We’re pretty fortunate in this area.
