Trying to get used to the furnace turning on so often during the night. When it gets down into the teens at night, that little rascal is working hard.  I’m so longing for warm summer nights with the windows open, the sound of crickets and….well…eventually. Just have to weather the weather, stay warm and wait it out.

Well, from enjoying 40 degrees to now being caught up in 20 degrees…big difference. We do still have a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until about 7pm today, with perhaps another 1″ of snow expected. Only got a little over a half an inch overnight, but actually could have been more. The wind was whipping around so strong, I’m sure a lot of it that fell was simply blow away. At any rate, winter has returned.

Right now, this morning, it feels almost like spring outside. We’ve been so mild so far. Been lovely. Things will change tonight/tomorrow, but in the meantime so far this has been a really decent winter in Michigan.

Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 South West Michigan – Plenty Of Rain, Mild Temperatures

Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 South West Michigan – Plenty Of Rain, Mild Temperatures

Temperature 33 with an average wind from the SE of 21 mph making it feel like 22 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 77%, Barometer 29.91 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:33 pm. Windy today. SE winds 20-30 mph with gusts to 40. 100% chance of rain showers. High 48.

50% chance of overnight rain showers. Low 29. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

For the most part, the freezing rain expected overnight missed us. There was a crusty surface on things this morning, but the majority of that mess went to the north. We are still going to be enjoying the unseasonable warmth today – tomorrow – but then the bottom falls out, the cooler temps settle in with some lake effect snow on the way to winter up the scene. Doesn’t look like any more 40 degree days in our future for awhile, but while they were here, most of us were happy about it.

So far, so good today, lots of morning sunshine. But the overnight forecast leaves a lot to be desires. Fingers crossed this doesn’t come about. Will make for some ugly morning commuting for those in the work force.

Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 South West Michigan- Super Foggy Morning

Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 South West Michigan- Super Foggy Morning

Currently 29 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph making it feel like 24 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.81 & rising, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:20 pm. Dense Fog Alert In Place. Early fog with clouds, afternoon sunshine. High 43. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 29. NW winds 10 – 15.

The fog was supposed to have started to lift by about 9:00 this morning but it’s getting more dense all the time. No idea of how long this is going to hover over the area, but not good driving conditions out there right now. Our fairly mild temperatures appear to be holding on for now. Good news except for those involved in winter sports. Since I’m not numbered among them, this is all good for me.

Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 South West Michigan – Sunny And 40s Today

Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 South West Michigan – Sunny And 40s Today

Currently 33 with a SSW wind of 9 mph making it feel like 25 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.80 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:20 pm. Sunny today with a high of 42. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 28. Light and variable winds.

We have a pretty nice little patch of weather with us again. Strange winter weather – but I love it. 30s and 40s? Oh my yes. Could be SO much worse this time of year in Michigan. Whatever is causing this – El Nino, La Nina? Who cares? Well, somebody obviously does, but I don’t. Just keep bringing this rather mild winter weather our way and I’ll be a fan of whichever one we’re dealing with.

Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 South West Michigan – Maybe A Peek At The Sun Later

Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 South West Michigan – Maybe A Peek At The Sun Later

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SW of 14 mph making it feel like 21. Dew Point 26, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.21, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;13 am, Sunset 5:19 pm. Cloudy with afternoon peeks at the sun. High in the low to mid 30s. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 31. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Not very appealing outside right now, but chances seem to be pretty good that we’ll be seeing a bit of sunshine later on today. Looking forward to it. And a little warm up tomorrow sounds good, too. These days, in Michigan, we rejoice over any little thing we can find in our weather that doesn’t promise misery and woe. So far, so good. Nothing ugly showing up right now until about next Monday where a chance for some freezing rain is trying to work its way into our forecast. Hopefully, that will disappear by then. Fingers crossed.

Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 South West Michigan – Winterish Weather Returns

Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 South West Michigan – Winterish Weather Returns

Currently 25 with an ESE wind of 7 mph making it feel like 17 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.24 & falling, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:18 pm. 50% chance of snow. High 32. SSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

50% chance of overnight snow. Low 25. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Well, laughing here, I’d give that 50% chance of snow a sure bet rating because it’s been snowing – lightly, but still – every since I got up this morning. Yup, our warm unseasonable temperatures and rain have fled the scene and it’s winter again. We knew it was inevitable but I still don’t care much for it. But hey…it’s January. Only two bad months and it will be March and …here it goes, my annual statement…March could be nice! So I can cope with whatever Mother Nature dumps on us for the now, my thoughts are for the then.
