Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 South West Michigan- Woke to -12 This Morning

Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 South West Michigan- Woke to -12 This Morning

Currently -7 with an ESE wind of 1 mph. Feels like -7 degrees. Dew Point -13, Barometer 30.63 & rising, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:39 pm. Sunny today. High 15. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy tonight, low 6. SE winds 10 -15 mph.

Woke up to a temperature reading of -12 this morning. Mighty crunchy snow underfoot and freezing nose hairs when I went out to feed the critters this morning. It is definitely winter. And there is no warmth in the immediate forecast so we’re simply going to have to layer up and bear with it for the duration. Winter Storm Harper brought a variety of bad weather across this nation of ours, none of it good – everything from blizzards to tornadoes.  And it all seems to be followed up with miserable cold temperatures. Spring is going to seem double good this year when it gets here.

Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 South West Michigan – Bitter Cold Air

Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 South West Michigan – Bitter Cold Air

Currently 0 with a N wind of 6 mph making it feel like -11. Dew Point -7, Barometer 30.27, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise, 8:08 am, Sunset 5:38 pm. Sun and clouds mix today, high 12. N winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear overnight skies, very cold. -6 expected. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Woke to a -8 degree reading. Outside the snow underfoot is crunchy and the air freezes the hairs in your nose. It’s flat out bitter cold out there.  Took out the offerings for the birds and squirrels and immediately there were at least a dozen squirrels feeding. Black, gray, brown, red. I feel so bad for the critters out in this miserable Arctic air. And I see cat paw prints out around the ground heated bird bath so some nitwit around here is still tossing the cat out into the elements. I want so much to find those goofy people and toss them out in the cold, see how they’d fare with the bottoms of their feet freezing. As you can tell, I firmly, absolutely firmly, believe that people who have pets ought to also own a modicum of common sense…I don’t expect intelligence, but at least some capability of thinking.

Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 South West Michigan – 3″ Of Snow, More Falling

Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 South West Michigan – 3″ Of Snow, More Falling

Currently 15 with an average wind from the NE of 14 mph making it feel like 1 degree. Dew Point 11, Barometer 30.20 & falling, Humidity 83%, Visibility 0.5 mi., Sunrise 5:36 am, Sunset 5:37 pm. Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4pm today. So…variable clouds with a 90% chance of more snow. How 22. NE winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy becoming mainly clear, low 2. NNE winds 10 – 20 mph.

We did get a good fluffy 3″ of overnight snow and it’s still snowing. It’s a light snow so not sure how much more we’ll end up with, but still coming down. Other places in our nation got a much bigger hit from Winter Storm Harper. What we’re going to experience that is bad will be the deep freeze setting in tonight. Bitter cold, so getting the snow shoveled and as cleared as possible before it sets into cement block material is crucial. Sure enough winter now.

Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 South West Michigan – Mostly Cloudy, Getting Colder

Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 South West Michigan – Mostly Cloudy, Getting Colder

Currently 24 with an average wind from the NW of 9 mph making it feel like 15 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.17 & rising, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:35 pm. Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7:00 pm this evening through 4:00 pm Saturday. Snow, Wind, Limited Visibility.

Today will most mostly cloudy with a high of 29. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph. Tonight – here comes Harper – 70% chance of snow. Low 16. NE winds 10 -20 mph.

We are expecting our share of Harper to settle in late this evening through tonight and tomorrow. Going to be a mess and with the wind whipping around it’s going to be tough to keep the snow cleared. However, if we can’t keep that snow cleared, a deep freeze will hit up on Sunday and that stuff is going to freeze up and be like cement blocks – we’ll need a jack hammer to clear it away then. Not looking forward to the weather this weekend.

Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Few Flurries Possible

Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Few Flurries Possible

Currently 23 with an ESE wind of 7 mph making it feel like 14 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30.19 & falling, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:34 pm. Cloudy today with a few snow showers or flurries possible. High 32. SSE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy with some snow flurries likely. Low 24. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Well, a lot of the ice coating everything has gone, but not all of it. The very shaded places, driveways, sidewalks, parking lots, etc., are still treacherous. I’m thinking a lot of folks will try to get out and about and tend to errands before Saturday where it sounds as if we could get some significant snow – unless we luck out and most of it slides off to the south as so many of the storms have done. Hoping that’s what happens, but just in case, best to get things tended to and out of the way. Winter Storm Harper appears to be a bad one but again, it does look as if the brunt of it is set to miss us.

Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 South West Michigan – Still Icy

Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 South West Michigan – Still Icy

Currently 25 with an average wind from the N of 12 mph making it feel like 14 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30.22 & rising, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:33 pm. Cloudy with a few glimpses of afternoon sun. High 27. N winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly to mostly cloudy, low 18. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

The main roads are better, but side roads, parking lots, etc., are still icy and dangerous. Things just don’t sound like they’re going to improved to any great degree for some time. Cold, snow…it’s all wintry stuff coming at us. Winter Storm Harper may be one that doesn’t miss us like the others have. Saturday could bring us some significant snow. Alas…

Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 South West Michigan – Glare Ice Out There This Morning

Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 South West Michigan – Glare Ice Out There This Morning

Currently 27 with a SSW wind of 7 mph making it feel like 19 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 97%, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:32 pm. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING. Freezing Drizzle followed by snow. Today there is a 60% chance of afternoon snow following the morning ice. High 32. SW winds 10 20 mph.

Overnight, 50% chance of snow. Low 27. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Although the Weather Channel is completely missing the facts here, our area is either roads shut down or they’ve become virtual parking lots due to ice. It’s a mess out there. This is the first time I can’t even get out my back door to feed the birds and squirrels. Sheer ice and although I love there creatures, I don’t love them enough to risk a fall and a broken hip. It’s bad out there.

Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 South West Michigan – Getting Cold This Week

Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 South West Michigan – Getting Cold This Week

Currently 22 with a SSW wind of 3 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 89%, Barometer 30.35 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:11am, Sunset 5:30 pm. Cloudy today with a high of 33. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a few snow flurries possible. Low 29. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Our temperatures seem set on gradually lowering throughout the week until by next Sunday the high is said to be a whole whopping 14 degrees. That is an good news. Happy for our lack of snow storms, but sure do with the arctic air wasn’t going to be swooping down into our area. Alas…time to layer up again. Or better yet, just stay inside.

Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 South West Michigan – Wind Making It Feel Colder

Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 South West Michigan – Wind Making It Feel Colder

Currently 23 with an average wind from the ENE of 13 mph making it feel like 10 degrees. Dew Point 67%, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.45 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;11 am, Sunset 5:29 pm. Mostly a clear sky today, high 31. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 18. Light and variable winds.

It’s a nice looking day out there, one could almost imagine spring right around the corner. But when you step outside, you know better. That wind is bitter cold and cuts right through you. Most definitely does not feel close to spring. Got lots of winter left, so it’s basically unrealistic to start thinking spring already, but I can’t help myself. I can think it, even if I can’t feel it yet.

Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 Southwest Michigan – Nothing But Clouds

Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 Southwest Michigan – Nothing But Clouds

Currently 26 with an average wind from the E of 10 mph making it feel like 16 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 74%, Barometer 30.45 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:28 pm. Pretty much overcast today with a high near 30. E winds 10 – 20 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a low of 21. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Not a single spectacular thing going on with the weather here. It’s milder than we would usually expect in January in Michigan, but this seems to be the way our winter is going. Sorry for those involved in the winter sport business, because this sure hasn’t been their year so far. However, for the real enthusiasts, if they travel to the upper Michigan area, they find winter aplenty. I’m, personally, happy it’s staying up there, but I do realize there are others who don’t share my joy in a mild winter season. I’m trying not to smile.
