Currently 23 with an E wind of 2.8 dragging that down to feeling like 16. Dew Point 23, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 95%, Visibility 0.5 mi, Sunrise 5:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. 90% chance of snow today. 2 – 3″ expected. High around 30. S wind 5 – 15 mph.

There’s a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Wednesday morning. Looks like we’re expected snow every single day this coming week. I reckon I’m going out to do the stuff I have to do this morning. What difference does it make? Not going to get any better any time soon.

I hate winter!

Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Off & On Snow

Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Off & On Snow

Currently 24 with a S wind of 6.8 mph making that feel like 18. Dew Point 23, Barometer 29.84, Humidity 95%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. 70% chance of snow showers. High lower 30s. W winds 5 – 15 mph.

Not much going on today. Expecting a bit more snow, but hopefully not much. Winter has obviously arrived, just happy it didn’t arrive carting in a ton of snow with it. So far, so good in my little backyard.

Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 South West Michigan – Getting Some Snow Now

Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 South West Michigan – Getting Some Snow Now

Currently 25 with an ESE wind of 8 mph dropping that down to feeling like 19. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.71, Humidity 100%, visibility 0.50 mi, Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until about noon. 80 % chance of more snow this morning. Got about 3″ on the ground now. Accumulation of another 1 or 2″ possible. High around 30. SW winds 5 – 10 mph becoming N 5 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a 20% chance of snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. N W winds 5 – 10 mph becoming W.

Snowing here pretty steady but it’s a light snow. Not such a heavy snow as they are getting to the south and are due to get out on the East Coast. But still, our first substantial snow of the winter. The cold temperatures, all set to stay this way, assure everyone that the snow will stick around. Maybe not so much down south, I’m sure they’ll warm up eventually enough to get rid of that unusual snowfall they’re experiencing right now. A week from now this will be a memory for them. For us? Not so much. For us it’s going to be pretty much this way until spring. Bummer!

Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow So Far

Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow So Far

Currently 24 with a SSE wind of 3.5 mph making it feel like 19 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Partly sunny becoming mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High lower 30s. W winds 5 – 125 mph with gusts to 25.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9:00 pm today through tomorrow morning. 100% chance of snow. 3 – 5″ expected. Low mid 20s. S winds around 10 mph.

So far we’ve actually had less snow that they are getting in the south – Atlanta, for instance, is way ahead of us. Good for them, I say. And better for us, say I. Every time one of the Winter Weather Advisory things is posted for us and we somehow manage to escape? Wonderful.

What is concerning me this morning is the loss of animal lives out in California due to the wildfires. I wish like everything I could gather that every animal in California could somehow be transported someplace else, to someplace safe. Why anyone lives there is beyond me. And to keep animals there and not be able to keep them safe? Even worse in my mind. I am trying hard not to be consumed with anger, but I’m losing the battle.

Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow Falling

Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow Falling

Currently 23 with a WSW wind of 2.4 mph dropping that to feeling like 17. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 100%, Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 pm. 90% chance of snow showers. Accumulation 1 – 3″ possible. High upper 2os. W winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

40% chance of overnight snow. Low lower 20s. W winds 10 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

While we are dealing with light snow and cold, my heart hurts for those in California fighting for survival in the raging wildfires, fueled by a fierce Santa Ana wind. Just tragic circumstances there. Hurricane force winds blowing, tinder dry material set to burn – it’s been a long times since they’ve had rain – and this is supposedly their rainy season. Sad and scary for them.

Watching the films coming from there, it’s surreal. Traffic is zooming along the freeways and in the background you see the smoke and flames blazing. Weird. And one of the worst things – no rain in sight for them. None at all. And they need it so desperately. We can all only pray.

Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 South West Michigan – Big Changes Coming For Our Weather

Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 South West Michigan – Big Changes Coming For Our Weather

Currently 30 with an average WSW wind of 13.6 wind whipping that down to feeling like 20. Dew Point 18, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. 70% chance of snow showers. Accumulation 1″ or less. High lower 30s. W winds 15 – 20 mph.

80% chance of overnight snow. Accumulation 1 – 2″. Low lower 20s. W winds 5 – 15 mph.

The fierce wind of yesterday, and still somewhat today, is ushering in winter. Not much snow for my little back yard, but as usual plenty more along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Even though I’m only about 50 – 60 miles inland, I still mange most of the time to miss a bunch of the lake effect stuff that comes in over the water. I’m thankful for that. But some snow is coming for us. And so much colder than it’s been.

That strong wind dumped enough leaves along my back door so that I had to get out there first thing this morning and bag 4 big black trash bags of leaves just to be able to open my door and find the heated ground bird bath. Man….raking leaves now. Soon shoveling snow. Pretty sure I moved into the wrong townhouse complex. I’m sure there are actual, caring landlords in other places who tend to this stuff. Good thing I’m tough.

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 South West Michigan – Super Windy Night

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 South West Michigan – Super Windy Night

Currently 37 with an average SW wind of 12 mph dropping that down to feeling like 30. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.72, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mph, Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Windy. Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain possibly mixed with snow showers. High 39. W winds 25 – 35 with gusts to 45.

40% chance of overnight snow showers. Low mid 20s. W winds 15 – 25 mph with gusts to 35.

I love a good wind. I do. But last night was just plain scary.

I knew the Jet Stream was barreling across the ocean, hell-bent on slamming into the states and that it was going to disrupt our pleasant, unseasonable weather, but man…when it got here it was brutal.

Couldn’t sleep because the wind kept smashing through in bands of about 50 mph and sounding like low flying planes. I mean to tell you, it was a frightening night.

Plus the fact that this morning my back yard, my tiny patio, is layered in feet of leaves that I probably won’t be able to get rid of real soon. Windy again today and the leaves are just going to keep chasing each other around – and ending up packed against my back door.

Not such a wind fan this morning.

Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 South West Michigan – Weather Change On The Way

Currently 47 with a SE wind of 10.7 mph dragging that down to feeling like 43. Dew Point 40, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 74%, Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:07. 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms. High upper 50s. S winds 15 – 20 with gusts to 30.

90% chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight. Low upper 30s. S winds 20 – 25 mph becoming SW with gusts to 35.

The wind tonight and tomorrow will be blowing away our unseasonable temperatures and bringing along with it cold and very likely snow. Knew it would have to happen but not looking forward to it.

Lots of fog lately as if the land around me is helping to ward off Mother Nature by hiding it all. Maybe if she can’t find us, she won’t be able to haul in the cold and snow. It’s a thought. No wonder I love fog. Helpful stuff that it is :>)

Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Afternoon Sunshine

Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Afternoon Sunshine

Currently 47 with a SSE wind of 9.6 making no difference so it feels like 47. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 54%, visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Partly cloudy today with a high of 49. WSW wind 4 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight. low around 39. SSE winds 9 mph.

Had some pretty dense fog this morning which was a shocker as I’d heard nothing about it. Made some eerie moments with the sun trying hard to shine through it.  It eventually cleared out and we had plenty of sunshine for the rest of the day. A busy, but nice Sunday. The best.

Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 South West Michigan – Always Watching The Sky

Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 South West Michigan – Always Watching The Sky

Currently 41 degrees with a S wind of 2.4 mph dropping that a bit to feeling like 38. Dew Point 33, Barometer 30.13, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:54 pm, Sunset 5:01 pm.  Partly sunny then clearing in the afternoon. High around 50. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Yesterday I happened to look up just in time to see this cloud formation that looks like a space craft. Fascinating. Snapped the picture and only seconds later, the sky had changed and the ‘space craft’ had flown off and away.

Wish I could do the kid thing again, lay out on the grass and watch the clouds turn into pictures. You did that, right? “There’s a rabbit!”  “I see a lion.”  First of all, right now the ground is too cold to even consider doing that and secondly, my knees are going to refuse to play that game. Alas.

But in the meantime, remaining upright, I keep my eyes turned upward as often as possible to see what I might see. And am rewarded for doing so. Nature continues to provide entertainment. Yesterday a space ship. Tomorrow…who knows?
