Currently 27 with an ENE wind of 4.4 mph dragging that down to feeling like 22. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.12, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:09 pm. Not much liking the weather forecast but enjoying the fact that this is the shortest day – and from now on slowly, but surely, it’s going to be heading in the right direction. And yes it takes awhile, but eventually we’ll be back to nice long days with shorter nights.  In the meantime, long, dark, cold nights – with an Arctic Blast heading down just in time to help everyone celebrate Christmas. Oh joy!

Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 South West Michigan – Sunny For The Most Part Today

Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 South West Michigan – Sunny For The Most Part Today

Currently 26 with a NW wind of 1.5 mph making no difference so it feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.14, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:09 pm. Mostly sunny becoming partly sunny later today. High around 30. N wind 5 – 10 mph becoming light.

A glorious day to be out and about trying to wrap up Christmas, and I know a whole lot of people will be doing just that. Me? I’m done. All I have to do is enjoy it all now. I love that. Nothing last minute for me ’cause things like that simply make me nervous. And I’m all about avoiding nervous. At any rate, the weather today should be perfect for creating crowded stores everywhere around here. Lucky me…I won’t be among the crowds :>)

Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Sunshine & Warmer Temperature

Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Sunshine & Warmer Temperature

Currently 39 with a WSW wind of 5.3 mph dropping that slightly to feeling like 36. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:09 pm. Partly sunny to sunny today, high mid 40s. W winds 10 – 20 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly clear tonight with a low in the mid 20s. NW winds 10 – 20 mph with gusts to 30.

It’s a delightful day. Woke to watch some peach colored streaks brighten the sky and although the sky seems to have filled in with a thin cloud cover for the moment, it’s supposed to clear out and give us blue skies and sunshine later on. We’ll take it! In Michigan winters, any day that brings us temperatures above freezing with some peeks at the sun – all welcome.

Only 6 days until Christmas. Busy, busy season. But fun.

Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – Fog and Drizzle This Morning

Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – Fog and Drizzle This Morning

Currently 37 with a SSW wind of 2.4 mph making no difference so it feels like 37. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 100%, Visibility 3 mi, Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:08 pm. Cloudy with patchy morning fog. 60% chance of drizzle until about midday. High upper 30s. SW winds 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight, low mid 30s. SW winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 30.

It’s a mess out there this morning. Early on there was some freezing drizzle but as the temperatures have warmed up, it’s now just a misty drizzle making the underfoot snow slick. That plus the fog – not a nice day so far.

Only a week out from Christmas and I’m loving seeing all things Christmas from now until that big day. My favorite holiday. Now if it only came in my favorite season – which would be spring – it would be perfect. As it is, set right smack in the middle of winter, we have to worry about snow, wind, ice – all things which make travel a mess. Hoping for the best for everyone.

Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – A Bit Of A Break In The Weather

Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – A Bit Of A Break In The Weather

Cloudy tonight. Low in the lower 30s. Light winds.

Looks to be a fairly warm week coming up, compared to what we’ve had lately. Perfectly happy about that because we know, full well, that the bitter cold will return before we know it…or want it. Next week perhaps. Just in time for Christmas.

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Snow, Hopefully, Set To Taper Off

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Snow, Hopefully, Set To Taper Off

Winter Weather Advisory still in effect until 10 am today.

Currently 24 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph dropping that to feeling like 16. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1,410 yards, Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5 :08 pm. 80% chance of more snow until about midday. Another inch or so predicted. High upper 20s. E winds 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight, low in the lower 20s. E wind 5 – 10 mph.

Now measure 11′” on the ground with a new snowfall of 4″ last night. That should be enough. Mother Nature can call off the snow clouds now and give us some sunshine. Would be refreshing. And warmth. She shouldn’t forget to toss in some warmth. That’s the order I’m putting in. Whether it gets filled or not is another story.

Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – Snow & Cold Continues

Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – Snow & Cold Continues

Another Winter Weather Advisory is in effect today.

60% chance of snow. 1″ expected. Low around 20. W winds 5 – 15 mph becoming light.

So…the snow continues to fall and the temperature continues to stay low. It’s winter. Doesn’t matter in the least what the calendar says. We all know winter is December, January and February. Period. And this December is living up to what a winter month is supposed to be. How jolly.

Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Got 6″ Of New Snow

Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Got 6″ Of New Snow

Currently 11 with a calm WSW wind leaving it to feel like 11 degrees. Dew Point 11, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 100%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Party sunny morning will become a 50% chance of snow afternoon. High around 20. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

90% chance of snow showers. Low 15 – 20. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Got 6″ of new snow last night. About 9″ on the ground now. That rotten Jet Stream swooping down into the states has us sitting right in that scooped out purple part – cold and snow. Not liking this at all. No doubt at all about having a White Christmas. At the rate it’s going, we’ll probably have a White Easter.

Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Currently 17 with a SE wind of 12 mph dragging that down to feeling like 5 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 29.65 & falling, Humidity 100%, Visibility .50 mi. 100% chance of snow today. 5 – 8″ possible. High in the lower 20s. SE winds 10 – 15 mph becoming E in the afternoon.

100% chance of snow early tonight. Another inch or so expected. Low 5.  N wind 5 – 15 mph.

There is a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 11pm today. Could get a bunch of the wicked white stuff. It will be, as usual, a wait and see how it goes game. But it has been lightly snowing since I got up. There is about 4″ on the ground right now with a new 1/2″ having fallen since last measurement yesterday.

Took birdseed out this morning and tried to clear a patch for them without too much success. Getting tougher for them to get to the seed, but I’ll keep putting it out for the. Poor little feathered creatures.

Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 South West Michigan – Cold And Snow

Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 South West Michigan – Cold And Snow

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Wednesday.

Currently 16 degrees with a NW wind of 10.1 mph dropping that down to feeling like 2 degrees. Dew Point 9, Barometer 29.94, Humidity 72%, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. 30% chance of snow flurries. High around 20. NW winds 15 – 25 mph.

30% chance of overnight snow flurries becoming partly cloudy. Low 14. NW winds shifting to SW 10 – 15 mph.

Only 1/2″ of overnight snow where we could have received a bunch. Happy to be a few miles away from where the lake effect snow usually falls. There is 3 1/2″ of snow on the ground right now, which, again isn’t as bad as so many other spots in my state. Plus the lake effect that is falling around the Buffalo area puts ours to utter shame.  And although I’m usually a very competitive person, as far as snow fall depths go, I’m happy to be on the losing side of the game. Always.
