What’s in a name? November’s full Moon is called the Beaver Moon from back when Native Americans, in this case, the Algonquin tribes, used the monthly Moons and nature’s signs as a calendar to track the seasons.

This time, this moon, indicates the best month to set the beaver traps before the water froze so there would be a good supply of warm winter furs. So if you’re going to be setting any of those beaver traps, this is might be a good time to take care of that. Personally, I think I’ll let the beaver keep their warmth and likely end up knitting something warm. Seems a more sporting thing to do to me.

These days, we really don’t need any specific moon to tell us we need to prepare for cold weather, for rounding up our warm hats. But I guess in addition to our trusty calendars, it’s probably nice to have this added incentive, this full moon urging us on to be prepared.

This is also known as the Full Frost Moon and it’s about the right time for that to come into play, too. Warm hats, frost…all a part of my least favorite season. Going to be getting colder around here. But hey, the moon is pretty. I will admit that.
