An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Tuesday, Sept 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Could Get Some Severe T-Storms

Tuesday, Sept 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Could Get Some Severe T-Storms

Currently 67 with an average SSW wind of 4 mph. Feels like 67. Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.90 & rising, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 7:34 pm. 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some storms could be severe. High 76. SSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

80% chance of overnight rain and t-storms. Low 52. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Got about .09″ overnight and looking at the big map, it does appear as if some substantial rain could be taking aim at us later today and overnight. More leaves down before their time, I reckon.

Watching the squirrels this morning beginning their peanut burial. Somehow critters know when the seasons are about to change and it’s about this time that they start separating the unsalted peanuts in the shells that I toss out with the bird seed, black sunflowers seeds and raisins and instead of eating them, they bury them. Do they ever find these treasures I wonder? Or are they simply depriving themselves of a tasty breakfast right now? I have no idea, but I see they’re busy doing their squirreling away for the winter, so I’ll toss a few extra out every day from now on. The Hummingbirds are still here, which I’m happy about, but I know it won’t be long before their seasonal instincts kick in and they start their long, long trip south. Seems they just got here.

Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 South West Michigan – A Bit Of Rain Heading Our Way

Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 South West Michigan – A Bit Of Rain Heading Our Way

Currently 55 with an average wind from the East of 9 mph, Dew Point 53, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 7:35 pm. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 72. ESE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Overcast tonight with a 60% chance of rain. Low 63. SSE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Chilly enough to have the heat on first thing this morning. It will warm up enough this afternoon so that won’t be necessary, but darned if I’m letting my place go below 70 degrees. I HATE being cold worse than just about anything and with most of our days now hovering in the 60s and the nights dropping into the 40s or 50s. I suspect that heat will be on now until Spring. I’m already wondering where that blessed warmth went of our very hot summer. And wishing for some of it back.

Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Days, Chilly Nights.

Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Cool Days, Chilly Nights.

Currently 60 with an average SE wind of 3 mph. Feels like 60. Dew Point 50, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.20 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 7:37 pm. Sunny today with a high near 70. ESE winds 5 -10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 49. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

Hate to admit it, but I did break down and turn on my heat this morning. 44 degrees outside, 68 inside…too cold for me to be able to get up and hop in the shower. Thank goodness I have the thermostat app on my IPhone so all I have to do is reach over and turn on my heat, A/C, adjust temperatures, etc. without ever having to step a toe outside the covers. I love that!

Off to breakfast this morning I found fog over the river. Didn’t seem to be any anywhere else but over the water. Lucky I had to stop for a traffic signal long enough to snap a photo.

I suspect the leaves will be ramping up their decision to change colors soon. The cooler nights usually signal time to round up the rakes and have them on the ready before to long. I know so many people love this season…they come alive in the Autumn. Me? I have to fight depression each and every single year when Fall rolls around. I know it’s only because of the season that follows right behind it. And yeah, I get some stunning pictures in the Fall but still…and as soon as the first snow falls, I’m okay. It’s as if something inside just snaps out of it and says, “Oh well, winter’s here. Get over it. It won’t last forever and then it will be Spring.” And then I’m find. But getting through Autumn.

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Much Cooler Weather Upon Us

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Much Cooler Weather Upon Us

Currently 53 with an average NE wind of 10 mph. Feels like 50. Dew Point 40, Humidity 60%, Barometer 30.35 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 7:39 pm. Sunny with a high of 64. e winds 10 -15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 43. Light and variable winds.

Wow – what a difference. Windows closed, long sleeves on, it’s definitely September weather now. One good thing, the strong wind and dropping temperatures seemed to do a number on the massive mosquito problem we’ve had to contend with the past few weeks. That’s for sure a good thing. But I find it rather sad that our summer temperatures have vanished. The warmth was stubborn and hung in longer than usual. However, as is the way of things, it eventually had to exit the stage while a new season became the star.  I’m much a warm weather person, but then…I don’t have any say in it. Here comes cooler weather, like it or not.

Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Strong Wind Ushering In Much Cooler Weather

Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Strong Wind Ushering In Much Cooler Weather

Currently 75 with a SW wind of 17 mph. Feels like 75. Dew Point 68, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.72 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 7:41 pm. Windy! W winds of 20 -30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Mostly cloudy today with a high of 75.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy after midnight. Much cooler – 44 as a low. NNW winds 15 – 25 mph decreasing to 5 = 10 mph.

A substantial both hands on the wheel wind is going to blow in today, bringing much cooler temperatures. Dropping down to 44 tonight, which is most certainly put that comforter back on the bed weather. This is a strong cold front swooping in today and I’m fairly certain we’ve seen the last of the 80 degree temps. We’ll be happy to see 70s.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 South West Michigan – A Rainy Day

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 South West Michigan – A Rainy Day

Currently 64 with an ESE wind of 8 mph. Feels like 64. Dew Point 63, Humidity 99%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 7:43 pm. 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms today. High 82. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

30% chance of overnight rain. Low 72. SSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Listening to thunder roll right now and expecting a good downpour any minute. We did get .41″ of rain overnight. Hoping for more today and tonight. Tomorrow sounds like a windy one with the strong breeze blowing away our warm temperatures. Might only be around on 60 degrees by Saturday. Big drop.

Wednesday, Sept 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Cooling Down At Last

Wednesday, Sept 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Cooling Down At Last

Currently 60 with an average wind from the E of 8 mph. Feels like 58. Dew Point 57, Humidity 97%, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 7:44 pm. Cloudy with a 40% chance of showers. High 75. E winds 5 -1 0 mph.

40% chance of showers. Isolated thunderstorms possible. Low 62. ESE 5 – 10 mph.

Fingers crossed that some of the forecast rain will actually occur here. Yesterday I think we got about 3 drops of it. Would be nice to get a tad more. And the temperatures are beginning to tumble, which is pleasant, too. Seems as if Autumn is on the way after all.

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Clouds, Still Rather Warm

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Clouds, Still Rather Warm

Currently 69 with an E wind of 4 mph. Feels like 69. Dew Point 66, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.94 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 7:46 pm. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or t-storm is possible. High 81. NW Winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers or thunderstorms. Low 58. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Our humidity and warmth are hanging in here. Any day now, we expect some relief. But now, evidently not until after around Thursday. It keeps being pushed back day by day. We all know that sooner or later – obviously, later – the warmth will fade and crisp cooler air will be ushered in. I can wait for that. However, the mosquito problem right now is horrendous. They never bother me. Ever. But the past few mornings, just going out to feed the birds and critters have left me swatting them off like I don’t usually have to do. What has brought them out in such ravenous numbers right now, I don’t know. But there they are. Would be lovely to see that come to an end.

Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Hot & Humid Day For Us

Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Hot & Humid Day For Us

Currently 63 with an average wind from the East of 1 mph. Feels like 63. Dew Point 63. Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.95 & falling, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 7:48 pm. Partly cloudy. High 86. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with the possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm. Low 63. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Today will be a proper summer day – a little late in the season, but still. Hot and humid with another one due tomorrow, maybe not quite so warm, but the humidity will linger. Then it seems relief will be on the way and things will cool down into what’s more normal for this time of year.

Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Unseasonable Warmth Continues

Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Unseasonable Warmth Continues

Currently 65 with an average wind from the E at 4 mph. Feels like 65. Dew Point 63, Humidity 94%, Barometer 30.16 & rising, Visibility 5 mi, Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 7:50 pm. Patchy fog early. Sunny to partly cloudy, high near 85. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Generally clear overnight. Low 63. Light and variable winds.

Our warmth is holding in here. Another day, perhaps. I’m enjoying it. And then another system is set to swoop in and clear out the higher temperatures and lower them to a more seasonal level. Another foggy start to our dag. That’s become a regular around here. Not so thick today, but still lingering long enough to keep the visibility from being perfect.

So enjoyable to be able to sit out on the tiny patio in my backyard and watch nature scurry around with morning routines. The little Chipmunk comes around most times to grab a drink out of the birdbath. We don’t seem to bother each other, which is fine. The hummingbirds are still with us and zooming in and out early in the morning. I will miss them very much when they decide to leave.
