Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019-End Of February Still Cold And Snow Covered

Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019-End Of February Still Cold And Snow Covered

Currently 20 with a SSE wind of 2 mph. Feels like 20 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.29 & rising, Humidity 77%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:19 am, Sunset 6:30 pm. A few peeks of sun this morning but overcast all afternoon. High 28. Light and variable winds.

Mostly cloudy to clearing overnight. Low 8. Light and variable winds.

Oh my…usually with the end of February everyone’s spirits are perked up because…March Could Be Nice. Right? But this year? Not so much. The cold is going to continue, in fact, hearing the news that this could be our coldest March – ever. Swell. The next storm brewing on the West Coast appears to be bringing more bitter cold to us, but it looks, at least for the moment, as if the snow part will slide to the south as it moves on to the East Coast. This has been a weird winter with one storm right after another, like waves on the ocean shore, rolling across the country. With no end in sight for now. Oh my…

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Cold Winter Just Keeps On Keeping On

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Cold Winter Just Keeps On Keeping On

Currently 17 with an ENE wind of 6 mph making it fee like 8 degrees. Dew Point 13, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30.18 & falling, Visibility 0.3 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 6:28 pm.  90% chance of snow showers, then becoming partly cloudy, but with a possibility of freezing drizzle. High 26. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a chance of flurries. Low around 5., NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Another 3″ of overnight snow. I have no idea, right now, what our season’s snowfall is. What I do know is that it’s been never-ending. A few inches here, another couple there…and then instead of the mild little break we usually get where we can take a breath and say, “Well, winter isn’t so bad, is it?”…we get freezing rain, a miserable wintry mix, or wind storms. It’s been a nightmare winter this time around and we can’t see the back of it soon enough.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019-South West Michigan- Another Winter Storm On The Way

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019-South West Michigan- Another Winter Storm On The Way

Currently 13 with a NNE wind of 3 mph making it feel like 6 degrees. Barometer 30.58, Dew Point 7, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 6:27 pm. A few breaks in the cloud cover possible this morning, otherwise overcast today. High 22. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

60% chance of overnight snow. 1-3″ possible. Low 16. E winds 10 -15 mph.

Well, okay, we now have Winter Storm Ryan taking aim at us. Whew! For a second or two we were thinking we were going to be left out of this storm-party rolling across the country. But no…we’re going to get our share, tonight and tomorrow. One storm right after another. It’s like a gigantic set of dominoes has been tipped over somewhere along the upper west coast and they just keep falling across the nation without let up. Overwhelming might be the word this winter. January and February have allowed no chance to recover before another storm barrels through. Winter-weary might be the description of how we all feel.

Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 South West Michigan – Cold, Wind Continues

Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 South West Michigan – Cold, Wind Continues

Currently 12 with a W wind of 19 mph making it feel like -7. Barometer 30.35 & rising, Dew Point 4, Humidity 70%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:24 am, Sunset 6:26 pm. 70% chance of morning snow showers becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 16. W winds 15 -2 5 mph.

Cloudy with a few overnight snow showers. Low 11. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Glad yesterday is finished. Super windy, snow blowing all over the place. Ended up being able to measure 3″ of new snow, but that is far from accurate. The snow flew around everywhere, most certainly didn’t fall straight down in any measurable manner. Lots of power outages. Mine came and went but ended up hanging in there for the most part. Although every time the power flickered and went out it was preceded by a horrible groaning, loud sound. Have NO idea what that was all about, but it was sure scary. Today the wind continues to blow – not nearly close to yesterday’s horror show – but still strong and the cold is with us for awhile yet.

Frankly, we’ve had more than enough of this winter.

Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-High Wind Warning In Effect

Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-High Wind Warning In Effect

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 27 mph making it feel like 28 degrees. Barometer 29.14 & falling, Dew Point 36, Humidity 89%, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 6:24 pm. High Wind Warning In Effect. W winds 25-35 with gusts over 50 mph. So…windy today with a morning high of 40 falling to an afternoon high of only 25. 70% chance of snowfall.

Windy tonight with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low 12. W winds 25 -35 with higher gusts through the night.

It’s the low of 12 tonight that’s concerning. With high winds hitting us all day and tonight, power outages are absolutely guaranteed throughout the area. 12 degrees with no heat is scary. We expect to see plenty more tree damage in addition to the power outages. White out conditions for driving with blowing snow is going to make travel dangerous. Not a good day or night looming for us…and if the power goes out all over the place, likely no power for lengthy periods of time. We need to get through this bout of ugly weather and get farther along to road to Spring.

Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Scary Wind Expected Tomorrow

Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Scary Wind Expected Tomorrow

Currently 31 with an E wind of 14 mph making it feel like 21 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.14 & falling, Humidity 71, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 6:23 pm. Cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon showers. Thunder possible. High 39. E winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a 100% chance of periods of rain. Thunder possible. Low 37. SSE winds 10 -20 mph.

Well, today we might see some rain, hear some thunder…same tonight. But it’s tomorrow that has us concerned. High winds, blowing snow. It promises to be a wicked day on the way. Most everyone I know is preparing for power outages. Not good at any time, but in the winter with the cold weather, especially dangerous.  We’ll see what happens, but at the moment it isn’t sounding all that good.

Friday, Feb. 22, 2019-South West Michigan-So Far So Good, Bracing For Sunday Storm

Friday, Feb. 22, 2019-South West Michigan-So Far So Good, Bracing For Sunday Storm

Currently 25 with an ESE wind of 2 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.49 & rising, Humidity 76%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 6:22 pm. Sunny. High 37 today. Light and variable winds.

Mostly clear to cloudy overnight. Low 25. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

There is already a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Sunday morning through Sunday night. About 3″ of snow expected but it’s the wind that’s going to cause the trouble. High wind with gusts up to around 60 mph, which means white out conditions for driving, more tree damage and power outages. Not a good thing to look forward to. I suspect the roads/stores will be super busy on Saturday with folks making preparations again. Seems like we’ve had to do this far too many times the past couple of months.

Today is another winner, like yesterday was. Losing more snow ground cover. Down to about 4″ now…well, except for the piles and mountains of shoveled and plowed stuff. But two days running with sunshine? Wonderful.

Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019-South West Michigan – Clouds And Sun Today-No New Precip.

Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019-South West Michigan – Clouds And Sun Today-No New Precip.

Currently 28 with a W wind of 7 mph making it feel like 16. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.07 & rising, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mil, Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 6:21 pm. Sun and clouds mix. High 29. W winds 15 – 25 mph.

Cloudy to most clear overnight, low 14. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

A lovely morning – as mornings in February go. At least it’s not snowing or sleeting or anything dampening our day. Should see a nice amount of sunshine, and this is always a picker-upper. Tomorrow looks to be a winner to. How about that? Two days in a row? This is all of us, grateful and happy. We could pay for it on Saturday with a good chance of some of the miserable freezing rain coming on in, but hey…things could change by then and I’m hoping so. In the meantime, we have a couple of nice days to enjoy.

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Coming Snow, Frozen Mix, Rain

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Coming Snow, Frozen Mix, Rain

Currently 26 with an E wind of 16 mph making it feel like 13 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.09 & falling, Humidity 66%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 6:19 pm. 80% chance of precipitation today. Morning snow showers will change to a wintry mix, followed by rain. Snow and ice 1″ possible. High near 35. ESE winds 15 – 25 mph.

60% chance of evening rain showers then overcast tonight. Low 26. WSW winds 15 -25 mph.

A winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early this morning through 10pm.

Looking forward to what sounds like a messy day coming our way. So far everything seems fine but evidently Winter Storm Petra is anxious to pay us a visit.  Frankly, we’re getting good and tired of playing host to a series of winter storms. And oops….I spoke too soon. The snowflakes are beginning to fall. Looks as if our messy day is about to begin.

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get Ugly Frozen Mix Tomorrow

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get Ugly Frozen Mix Tomorrow

Currently 14 with an average wind from the SE of 5 mph making it feel like 6 degrees. Dew Point 5, Barometer 30.69 & rising, Humidity 65&, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 6:18 pm. Mostly cloudy with a high of 28 today. Light and variable winds.

Mostly cloudy tonight with the possibility of a few snow flurries. Low 5. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Tomorrow appears set on offering us about an 80% chance of a frozen mix. The worst part of winter is ice, so this isn’t welcome news. Maybe – hopefully – it will all swing to the south of us. I’m hoping so. I think we’ve dealt with enough misery lately with our weather. I guess this is Winter Storm Petra coming along? One right after another it seems. At least there is a bit of sunshine today. Was yesterday, too. Makes everybody happy and more upbeat just that little peek at the sun for a day or two. At least in Michigan that’s how it goes. And speaking of going, I’m about to dash out and about, run some errands and be a part of the sunshine while it’s here.
