Hard to believe we are at the end of the last summer month. Oh, I know…but people vs paper…we all know that summer is June, July & August. September is Fall – from day one for most. And little signs are showing up. A red leaf here, a gold one there. Dry leaves on the driveways. As lousy  as this year of 2020 has been, it should be a relief to see each and every month leave, and it is, sort of, but it’s the thought of summer leaving that I find unhappy. Oh well…not much can be done about it but gear up for September.

Feels late in the year today than it really is. Almost chilly this morning. The next week looks comfortable with temperatures in the upper 70s. Might be an 80 sneak in, but doesn’t look all that likely. I know folks who work outside are very grateful for this comfort level moving in. Especially with wearing those rotten masks. Sweating behind a mask all day has become a nightmare. Also raising a lot of ailments for some. Be glad when common sense moves back into society and this nonsense stops.

Watched a fantastic light show with lightening lasting a good half hour last night. The storm was to the north of me, so didn’t get much in the line of rain or wind, but the sky was worth sitting up and watching. Sorry for those directly under that storm, it had to be a doozy.

I don’t see anything over 70 degrees coming at us for the entire next week. Nice and cool. A relief for many who was tired of the heat.

Friday, Aug. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-Got Lots Of Overnight Rain

Friday, Aug. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-Got Lots Of Overnight Rain

Woke to thunder and the sound of pounding rain. And it went on for a good long time. I think our dry spell has been corrected for the time being. Could get more rain today and tonight, which wouldn’t be a bad idea. Get it all at once. Get it over and next week should be pleasant. Mid 70s for temperature, comfortable. Maybe some rain later on in the week, but the temperatures seem to be holding in the 70s.

60% chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight. Low in the mid 60s. W winds 10 mph becoming light.

Lots of clouds starting to blot out the sun already so fingers are crossed that we do, indeed, get some rain later today and overnight. Even with that little rain the got the other night, we’re quite dry with sad, lifeless leaves dropping all over driveways. Sounds like Louisiana is getting pounded by Hurricane Laura. Hope everyone stays as safe as possible.

Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020-SW Michigan-Had A Brief Overnight Rain

Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020-SW Michigan-Had A Brief Overnight Rain

Currently 71 with an average wind from the SE of 5 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:00 am, Sunset 8:26 pm

We did get a bit of rain with a little thunder during the night. Sounded – and smelled – wonderful. Haven’t woke to the smell of rain in a long time. We needed the moisture. We could use more but that’s iffy – as it always is whether it’s in the forecast or not. Sounds like they’re going to get plenty of it down by the gulf area with Laura taking aim at the shore very soon. Hope they all stay safe.

Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Afternoon/Overnight Rain

Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Afternoon/Overnight Rain

Temperature 74 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 75%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:59 am, Sunset 8;27 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 50% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High in the upper 80s. NW winds around 5 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 60s. Light winds.

Now there is a chance for some rain. We should cross our fingers and hope it arrives. We can sure use it. Nicely cloudy so far this morning, looking a bit like it could possibly rain. It’s strange starting to think of Fall already and wonder what the weather will be for that season. Seems – even though Summer has been a proper one – hot and Summery – we are nearing the end of August already. How can that be possible? The Old Farmer’s Almanac does seem to hold out promise for our next couple of seasons. Perhaps not so cold as they could be, maybe not so much snow? Nothing carved in stone, of course, for a promise held out is better than nothing.  I can work with that.

Monday, Aug. 24, 2020-SW Michigan-Hot Temps, Stray Chances For Rain

Monday, Aug. 24, 2020-SW Michigan-Hot Temps, Stray Chances For Rain

Currently 82 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 86 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 65%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:29 pm.

70% chance of overnight showers and a chance of a thunderstorm. Low in the upper 60s. W winds 5- 10 mph becoming NW.

Rather amusing how quickly the forecast changes. Day to day. Just yesterday we were looking at a hot, dry week. Now it seems we’re facing a hot week with chances of rain popping up here and there. Crazy. The heat certainly hasn’t left the picture but nowhere is there any certainty about rain – or no rain. Just a wait and see week. I like surprises.

Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020-SW Michigan- Heating Back Up

Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020-SW Michigan- Heating Back Up

Currently 80 with an average wind from the WNW of 7 mph. Feels like 82 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 30., Humidity 53%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:57 am, Sunset 8:31 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 80s. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy. low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

Just a few days ago, no 90 degree days in sight. Not so now. Going to be a steamy week ahead. As for rain, they have moved in a 50/50 chance on Friday. We’ll see how that goes.

In the meantime, 2 hurricanes are fixing to hit in about the New Orleans area- at virtually the same time.  Marco was taking aim at that area from the get-go however, Laura was supposed to head for Florida. Somehow that got screwed up and it veered off to the west. So not fair.  Not looking good for the folks in the Gulf area. One at a time hurricanes are hell to deal with but two? Shouldn’t be happening. Hoping for the best for those living in the area.

Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020-SW Michigan-Nice Warm Summer Saturday

Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020-SW Michigan-Nice Warm Summer Saturday

Currently 77 with an average wind from the W of 4 mph. Feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 63, Humidity 63%, Barometer 29.97, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:32 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 80s. W winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear with a low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

A hot four or five days ahead – and still no rain in sight. Well, clear into the week, next Friday seems to show a tiny chance for some precipitation, but it’s a slim chance and after another week of everything drying out, even if a small amount of it shows up, it might not be enough to help. We could really use a nice day long rain. Seeing nothing even remotely like that in our future.
