Thursday, May 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds To Sunshine Today

Thursday, May 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds To Sunshine Today

Currently 71 with a SW winds of 13 mph making no difference so it feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.65 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:14 pm. Our morning clouds will clear to reveal a clear sunny sky this afternoon. High 84. SW winds 10-20mph.

Clear evening skies will become partly cloudy overnight. Low 64. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

Our recent rainfall – a remnant of Alberto – is possibly the farthest north a tropical storm has ever managed to travel in the United States. Because that’s what we got. A tropical depression. Alberto. In Michigan. Who’d a thought? Has that ever happened before? I don’t know. But how interesting. Even at that, it was mild mannered and didn’t overstay its welcome here. I measured .86″ of rainfall from the system.

With all the catastrophes happening all over the planet, I feel we are so blessed to be sitting here in this mild, uneventful climate of ours. Not complaining at all. It’s like being on the outside of a giant swirling weather globe, looking in and watching the events flashing past. So much action, so many emotions watching it all. I guess it could be called the ultimate Reality Entertainment – except it’s not scripted, it’s not planned, it’s usually painful and distressing both to witness and especially for those experiencing the happenings. Our planet, and the weather it produces,  constantly changing, consistently affecting those of us clinging to this whirling orb, is eternally fascinating. Frequently heartbreaking. Always awe inspiring. Not much we can do about it in many cases, so we observe, try to protect ourselves the best we can and let Nature have at it. What a world!

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Possibly Heavy Rain Moving In

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Possibly Heavy Rain Moving In

Currently 73 with an E wind of 9 mph leaving it to feel like 73 degrees. Dew Point 64, Humidity 73%, Barometer 29.08 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:06am, Sunset 9:13pm. Partly cloudy to cloudy with an 80% chance of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Some rainfall could be heavy. High 82. SE winds 10 – 20mph.

90% chance of thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall possible tonight. 1-2″ possible. Low 66. SE winds shifting to W 10-15mph.

Clouds are, indeed, moving in and the remnants of Alberto are set to dump some possibly heavy rain on our area. Considering what’s been going on with the flooding and destruction elsewhere, it seems only fair that we take some sort of a turn at it. Nothing is going to occur such as the catastrophe in MD…that was horrendous and reading that it caused, in addition to heartrending loss to the people in that area, the life of a National Guardsman who was helping to rescue folks, is deeply disturbing. These brave first responders put their lives on the line every time there is an emergency and it’s heartbreaking to see any one of them lose their life in their efforts. I am so sorry for him, his family, his friends.

Tuesday, May 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Busy Setting New High Temperature Records

Tuesday, May 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Busy Setting New High Temperature Records

Currently 74 with an ENE wind of 10 mph making no difference, so it feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 64, Humidity 71%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:06 am, Sunset 9:12 pm. A mix of sun and clouds will give way to a cloudy afternoon with a slight chance of a stray thunderstorm popping up. High 93. E winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of  66. E winds 10 – 15 mph.

We did manage to set new record high temperatures here both Sunday – 93 degrees breaking a record from 1911 and Monday – 94 shattering a record from 1919. Not sure about today, but it’s possible that before the remnants of Alberto come up this far to bring us rain on Wednesday and Thursday, we could set another one. It’s been a spate of much higher than normal temperatures here lately – and after such a cold, miserable spring, this is amazing. Once the rains arrive we’ll drop back to some sort of normalcy with our temperatures but thank goodness for A/C units the past handful of days.

The enormous bright yellow duck currently resting in Rockford is there to highlight an upcoming summer event (Rockford Rotary Big Daddy Duck Race) and, unless there are more than one of these fantastic large ducks floating around, it sure does look like the one that I originally saw floating around in a harbor in Japan. I find this astonishing. Had breakfast Sunday morning in a restaurant with a window facing right out at that gigantic yellow creature and it sure was fun. I’ll miss it when it finally leaves for its next gig – where ever that might be.

Currently 81 with a NW wind of 3 mph. With the air quality being what it is this morning, it feels like 84 degrees already. Dew Point 65, Humidity 58%, Barometer 29.95 &rising, Visibility 10mi, Sunrise 6:07am, Sunset 9:11 pm. Partly cloudy with the possibility of setting a new high temperature. 93 expected. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of scattered thunderstorms popping up becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low 67. Light and variable winds.

Air Quality Alert In Place until Tuesday 12am.

It feels quite close and warm already this morning. Should be a scorcher today. I’m of the ‘if it’s going to be close to a record, go all out and set a new one’ group, so I hope it gets hotter than expected today. Why not? At any rate, there is a small chance for some rain overnight. Not much of a chance but even a small one is good. It would add some excitement to a very hot day.  Hey, what can I say…it’s just me.

What ever your weather today, I hope you take a moment to remember and honor all of those who gave all they had for you to be able to enjoy your life. There were many.

Currently 77 with a SSW wind of 5 mph ignoring that, so it feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 66%, Barometer 29.86 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:08 am, Sunset 9:11 pm. Mostly sunny with a high of 90. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

There is an Air Quality Alert in place until Monday at 12am and I suspect it will be continued after that at least through the day on Monday.

Finally! That nice hot weather I so love is here. I suspect I’ll be turning on the A/C later today – when it gets up to 90 even I cave in, but it won’t be on for long. I’m just delighted to see the cold, ugly weather depart and a nice high pressure system usher in warmth and sunshine.

At last! The warm weather -well, hot, actually – that I’ve been waiting for is here and promises to hang around. I am thrilled! We could see an 89 or even a 90! I know. I know. Not everyone is as happy about this as I am, but I truly am. Gets too hot, well shoot – that’s an excellent opportunity to fix some ice tea and sit around and read. (As if I need a reason to sit around and read) At any rate, the windows are wide open, I am happy, all’s well in my little corner of the world.

What a glorious day! Sunny and warm. Could not ask for more. No rain in sight for the day, very light breeze…the kind of day that calls out for sitting out in the back and watching nature develop. At least that’s what I hear, so I shall do exactly that.

Chance of rain by Saturday but not until then. Finally, some wonderful weather for my little backyard.
