Monday, July 31, 2023-SW Michigan-Terrific Summer Day

Currently 70 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.15, Humidity 63%, Visibility 18 mi., Sunrise 6:32 am, Sunset 9:04 pm.

Partly cloudy with a low in the mid 50s. NW winds 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Not a whole lot to improve on this coming week. Appears to be comprised of a nice streak of 80-degree days accompanied by plentiful sunshine. Perhaps, at this point, some rain showing up next weekend, but as we all know, everything can change by then. In the meantime, enjoy this summer week, the first of August.

Sunday, July 30, 2023-SW Michigan-July Winding Down In Style

Currently 71 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 50%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:30 am, Sunset 9:06 pm.

Mostly clear tonight. Low in the mid 50s. NW winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Looking at a delightful summer week coming our way. Temperatures in the low 80s and no precipitation in sight until, as of now, around Friday. Plenty of sunshine and warmth. Can’t hardly ask for a better ending for July and beginning of August. Warm days with nights being kind enough to cool down enough to welcome open windows – if you’re the sort who loves fresh air. I am.

Again, we are so fortunate not to be baking in the excessive heat still smothering the south. They really are suffering and there doesn’t seem to be any relief in sight for them. Give thanks and enjoy what we have. They have bragging rights when our miserable winter weather sets in, but it’s sort of our turn right now. However, this year, nobody feels like bragging as the heat is SO intense all we can do is offer our sympathy and prayers for everyone to stay safe.

Saturday, July 29, 2023-SW Michigan-Beautiful Weather Coming Our Way

Currently 73 with an average wind from the ESE of 5 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:29 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the lower 80s. N winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 until midday.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 50s. N winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Look for a most pleasant week coming up. Temperatures in the upper 70s, lower 80s. Not a whole lot of precipitation in view as of now. Just a nice comfortable spate of weather. While so many places still are left broiling under the sun, we had a small taste of it and that was plenty.  Air currents and the Jet Stream are in our favor for now. No such relief in sight for those who have had to endure record breaking heat for such a long a time already. Wish there was better news for those folks. Not to be for now, I’m afraid. Once again, we seem to have found a sweet spot in distance from where the excessive heat is set to continue brutal punishment.

Friday, July 28, 2023-SW Michigan-Possible Afternoon Storms

Friday, July 28, 2023-SW Michigan-Possible Afternoon Storms

Currently 79 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 71, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 86%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:28 am, Sunset 9:08 pm.

Scattered clouds today with a 30 % chance of afternoon thunderstorms forming. Some storms could be severe. High 91 with a heat index to 97 degrees. WSW winds 5-10 mph.

70% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. Low 67. NE winds 10-15 mph.

Although we are now sharing in that smothering dome of high heat that’s been plaguing the southwest and the south for far too long now, we are fortunate that we will see an end to it- even though relief for the southern states is still not in sight. Tomorrow we should drop into the 80s and Sunday should be wonderfully refreshing with numbers in the 70s. All of next week is looking comfortable as of now, so we truly are lucky so far. Be prepared for the possibility of some severe weather later today and overnight. The percentage isn’t great, but it isn’t zero, either. So just keep an eye on what’s going on. Be safe. And if you have plans for Sunday, feel confident that things should go according to your plans – at least weatherwise.

Thursday, July 27, 2023-SW Michigan-Storms Missed Us Again

Thursday, July 27, 2023-SW Michigan-Storms Missed Us Again

Currently 68 with a calm wind from the NW. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 97%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:27 am, Sunset 9:09 pm.

Partly sunny until midday ben clearing. Morning patchy fog. High in the upper 80s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 60s. SW winds around 10 mph.

So – once again the predicted, almost promised, storms totally miss my area. We had a light rain, didn’t even get any thunder or lightening, let alone the wind. Just as happy about that. The rain was beneficial, and the lack of damaging wind was even more so. Look for a hot day today and tomorrow. Although tomorrow may bring us some rain to go along with the heat. A bit of a cool down for the weekend and as of now, next week is looking pretty comfortable, too. Not all bad.

Wednesday, July 26, 2023-SW Michigan-Storms Racing Toward Us

Wednesday, July 26, 2023-SW Michigan-Storms Racing Toward Us

Currently 79 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 72%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 6:26 am, Sunset 9:10 pm.

80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Somes storms could be severe. Locally heavy rainfall possible. High in the upper 80s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 becoming SW 10-20 mph with gusts to 35.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Some storms could be severe. Low in the upper 60s. W winds 5-10 mph becoming N overnight.

Don’t think this batch of storms is going to miss us, so heads up out there. The storms are already over Lake Michigan and coming ashore near Ludington. Be prepared for heavy rainfall and strong winds. Don’t count on the one going to the south or north of us, looks like we’re in the cross hairs for this. Just keep an eye on the weather for today and this evening. Going to be a couple of hot days following but looks like Sunday will bring us a nice cool down.

Tuesday, July 25, 2023-SW Michigan-Hot Today, Stormy Tomorrow

Tuesday, July 25, 2023-SW Michigan-Hot Today, Stormy Tomorrow

Currently 68 with an average wind from the SSE of 1 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 83%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:25 am, Sunset 9:11 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 20% chance of showers. High in the mid 80s. W winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear with a low in the upper 60s. S winds around 10 mph with gusts to 25 increasing to 40 mph.

Look for warmth and a hazy sunshine today as the Canadian smoke is again affecting our air quality.  Tomorrow, I think it might be wise to be prepared for some storms. There is a system that should hit us on Wednesday bringing the distinct possibility of strong storms and a chance for a tornado. We won’t – or shouldn’t – be in the strongest area, but certainly in the possible zone. So far, it does seem as if the heat that has plagued the south has expanded to include us this week, so still thinking we could see some uncomfortably warm weather for a few days. Sounds like an interesting week coming up with a variety of weather. We should be able to weather it (no pun intended…or maybe just a small one) if we are prepared and watchful. We can do that.

Monday, July 24, 2023-SW Michigan-The Heat Is On

Monday, July 24, 2023-SW Michigan-The Heat Is On

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29.9, Humidity 76%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:24 am, Sunset 9:12 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. High in the mid 80s. W winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Mostly clear with a low in the lower 60s. Light winds.

The sky has a rather washed-out appearance this morning. I suspect it’s a bit of the Canadian fire smoke wafting our way. It’s pretty heavy right now in Wisconsin and Minnesota. With the wind blowing from that direction, it’s probably only a matter of time before our air is once again in the unhealthy zone. And the heat dome that’s been holding firm over the south has enlarged enough to now include more of the northern states, so this is going to be one hot week coming up. Nothing in the 100s like the south but wouldn’t be surprising to see several 90-degree days for us. Some sites show a chance for rain cropping up now and again through the week, but then again some don’t. I guess at this point it’s a toss up. The heat we can count on. The rain, not so much.

Sunday, July 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Chance Of Rain Today, Sunshine Tomorrow

Sunday, July 23, 2023-SW Michigan-Chance Of Rain Today, Sunshine Tomorrow

Currently 66 with an average wind from the ESE of 3 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 29.82, Humidity 92%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:23 am, Sunset 9:13 pm.

70% chance of showers with a chance of a thunderstorm. High in the upper 70s. SW winds 5-10 mph becoming W 10-15 mph in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with areas of overnight fog. Low in the upper 50s. Light winds.

Fairly good chance of rain today but look for sunshine and plenty of heat the rest of the week. Another chance for precipitation coming about next Friday, but as of now, that’s not a big opportunity. Be ready for some uncomfortably warm days about midweek as that large dome of heat that’s been smothering the southwest and the south expands to include states to the north – that would be us. And while we might not be happy with a temperature of 90, we can be glad it isn’t the 100+ days so many other places have had for weeks. Ours doesn’t appear to be set on lasting more than a few days. That will be plenty. Just know it’s coming.

Saturday, July 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Lots Of Sun, Chance For Some Rain

Saturday, July 22, 2023-SW Michigan-Lots Of Sun, Chance For Some Rain

Currently 72 with an average wind from the W of 1 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 56%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:22 am. Sunset 9:19 pm

Mostly sunny with a 40% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. High in the lower 80s. SW winds around 10 mph becoming W in the afternoon.

Mostly clear with a 20% chance of a shower and thunderstorm overnight. Low around 60. Light winds.

Plenty of sunshine but there is a small chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up later this afternoon and overnight. About the same for Sunday. Look for some very hot temperatures coming in about mid-week, that hasn’t changed so far. Nothing we can’t handle, just be prepared for it.
