Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-End Of February-Always A Welcome Time

Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-End Of February-Always A Welcome Time

Currently 39 with an average wind from the E of 2 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 29.75, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 6:29 pm.

A 70% chance of rain showers through early afternoon. Areas of fog throughout the day. High upper 40s. SE winds 10-15 becoming SW with gusts to 40 in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy in the evening becoming partly cloudy. Low in the mid 20s. W winds 15-25 with gusts to 40 becoming NW 10-15 mph.

Okay, so no sunshine that-as of yesterday-was supposed to grace our afternoon. This isn’t going to put in an appearance. But by the same token, the rain predicted for this morning never materialized, either. Sort of a tradeoff, I guess. Tomorrow, as of now, is supposed to be on the cool, breezy side, but after we get through that, the rest of the week promises a warm up. 40s and 50s? For the first week in March in Michigan? Oh yeah…this, I’m thinking, is going to be one of those March months I keep predicting will be nice. I’m ready for it. Critters are still feeding heavy, nothing much out there of them this time of year, so I keep the food chain going. Got a couple of sons who do the same. I know nature got along without us before this, but while we’re here, why not help them out? Well, we do. And I’m happy with us for doing so.

Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Today Not Bad, Tomorrow Sounds Crummy

Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Today Not Bad, Tomorrow Sounds Crummy

Currently 35 with an average wind from the SSW of 2 mph. Feels like 32. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 6:28 pm.

Mostly cloudy becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Patchy fog until about midday. High in the upper 40s. SW winds 10 mph.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of drizzle, freezing drizzle, & snow. Low in the lower 30s. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

A lovely moon last night. Me? I have to take everyone’s word on that. Where my little nest is situation I am surrounded by trees. My view of the sky is to the north or pretty much straight up. Not much usually going on in either direction. So thank goodness I have other eyes and cameras trained on the beauty like last night’s display. This picture is from son, Glenn.

Got a bit of overnight snow, but the temperature should rise enough to tend to that. Still plenty of snow ground cover, but hey…by the end of next week we could be looking at 50 degrees. Seriously! That sounds so wonderful I can hardly stand it :>) Tomorrow sound like a bummer with a good chance of freezing drizzle, but we can get through that hopefully safe and sound and on with a better bunch of days ahead.

Friday, Feb. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Too Soon For Return Of Southern Birds

Friday, Feb. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Too Soon For Return Of Southern Birds

Currently 30 with an average wind from the S of 8 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 77%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 6:27 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the lower 40s. S winds around 10 mph. Gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a 70% chance of an ugly night. Snow possibly mixed with rain in the evening, becoming snow with a chance of mixing with freezing rain at some point during the night. Patchy fog likely. Snow accumulation 1″ possible. Low around 30. SE winds 10 mph becoming S.

Too soon to be thinking Spring. Really. And people seeing the return of Robins, Bluebirds, Flamingos…well, no, maybe not those, but the rest of the returning feathered creatures… NO. Stay south. Wait. Use your tiny heads and stay away until the snow and ice and cold are gone and the ground softens up, the trees start to bloom…you know…time where you can actually survive. We may have an early Spring coming our way – my thinking, anyway – but someone is giving these winged critters some bad advise right now. I would rather see the deer, possums, etc., my regular winter visitors feeding out in my tiny backyard for a bit yet than those returning south-seeking during the winter, here-too-soon feeders.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021-SW Michigan-40 Degree Days Ahead

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021-SW Michigan-40 Degree Days Ahead

Currently 28 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 30.29, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 6:26 pm.

Partly sunny today with a 20% chance of snow showers until about midday. Patchy morning fog. High in the mid 30s. SW winds around 10 mph becoming W in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Okay, today probably won’t make it that high but looking ahead there appears to be almost an entire week of 40 degree days. Pretty exciting because that’s going to go a long way toward helping us get rid of too many inches of snow littering the surface of our little corner of the world. Since for the most part our nighttime temperatures are going to be below freezing we’re going to be faced with slippery surfaces every single morning. Sidewalks, driveways, etc. are going to present dangerous conditions until the day wears on and that ice melts into water again. Just want everyone to be careful. Slips and falls hardly ever result in pleasant situations. But – hope runs high now that the brunt of winter is behind us and there’s nothing much ahead, for the most part, but warmer, brighter days. About time!

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Icicles & Snow Pack Melting

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Icicles & Snow Pack Melting

Currently 41 with an average wind from the SSW of 5 mph. Feels like 41 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.65, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 6:24 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the upper 30s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 15-20. NW winds 5 -15 mph becoming light.

Seeing quite a bit of sunshine this morning considering it’s supposed to be mostly cloudy. And it’s already well up over the called for high for the day. So, all in all, it’s becoming a pretty good day. And the icicles are melting like crazy becoming not much more than streams of water falling from the roof line. The snow pack is sinking a bit lower, still too deep to wade out in comfortably, but it’s heading in the right direction. All good signs. With a week of temperatures in the 30s and 40s coming at us, should even get better. I’m more than a little happy about that.

Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunshine & Warmer Temps Have A Lot Of Work To Do

Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunshine & Warmer Temps Have A Lot Of Work To Do

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.66, Humidity 86%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 6:23 pm.

Partly sunny with a high around 40 degrees. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain/snow possibly mixed with some freezing rain overnight. Low in the lower 30s. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

The sun is shining and the temperatures are higher – but they sure do have a lot of work to do. I went out and measured at various spots in my backyard and right now there is an average of about 14″ of snow on the ground. Heavy, wet snow as of now that really doesn’t want to go anywhere fast. We know it will go – eventually – but there’s definite proof of a beastly month of February everywhere. Long icicles are beginning to drip and hopefully will vanish before too long. Dead grass and mud will eventually be revealed as the snow retreats into oblivion. But for now we just have to enjoy the sunshine, the warmer temperatures and know that Spring will be with us before too long. Thank goodness.

Monday, Feb. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Better Weather Ahead

Monday, Feb. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Better Weather Ahead

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SSW of 7 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.67, Humidity 100%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 6:22 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers until about midday. High in the mid 30s. W winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to around 30.

90% chance of overnight snow possibly mixed with freezing rain. Low in the lower 30s. SW winds 15-20 mph.

Tomorrow morning’s commute might be a mess if the danger of freezing rain is coating the roads. I hope not, but the possibility is there. After that, we’re looking at a week of temperatures in the upper 30s and even a few 40s. Ending the brutal month of February on an uptick. The damage done by this particular February is still evident all over the country – and the way it sounds will likely remain in place for longer than what folks would like – or need. If everyone can hang in there and get past this, there is hope in sight. March is at the gate, ready to get a head start on perking up spirits and conditions in general. We’re more than ready.

Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Lots Of Morning Blue Sky

Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Lots Of Morning Blue Sky

Currently 26 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.3, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 6:20 pm.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy later today. High in the lower 30s. SE winds 10 mph increasing to 10-15 with gusts to 30.

100% chance of overnight snow. 2-4″ likely. Low in the upper 20s. SE winds 10-15 becoming SW with gusts to 25.

Looking up at all that blue sky this morning, with sunshine spilling down all around, makes it feel warmer than it is. The wind is a bit chilly and you definitely notice that wind chill factor dropping it down to the 15 that it feels like. Snow coming tonight but hey…if we’re looking at a possible 40 degrees on Tuesday? No worries. We can make it through knowing some of this dreary white stuff is going to be melting. Finally. For sure, Spring is right around the corner – and that corner doesn’t feel miles and miles away like it did only a week or so ago. Can’t wait!

Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Bit Of Warm Up On The Way

Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Bit Of Warm Up On The Way

Currently 23 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 83%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 6:19 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of some snow showers in the afternoon. High in the upper 20s. L winds becoming SW 5=10 mph by afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 5-10 above. SE winds around 10 mph.

Looks like next week will bring us some 30 degree days. In fact, not holding my breath but being very hopeful, Tuesday could present us with a temperature of 40. Can you imagine that? I think we’ve had our fill of super cold days and nights. And I don’t know about you but I’m seriously thinking Spring. After all….and those of you who know me have heard this every year for decades…MARCH COULD BE NICE. And really, sometimes it can be. Maybe not always, but hey…hoping and wishing for one of those years. We shall see, but in the meantime looking at days above freezing means happy times.

Friday, Feb. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-February Definitely Most Brutal Winter Month

Friday, Feb. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-February Definitely Most Brutal Winter Month

Currently 20 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.21, Humidity 96%, Vitality 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 6:18 pm.

80% chance of some snow showers today. 1″ or less expected. High mid 20s. Light winds becoming W 10-15 mph.

70% chance of overnight snow showers. Again 1″ or less expected. Low near 10. W winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

A bit of foggy air this morning, also a little blue sky was showing for a brief moment or two. Looks to be some more snow on the way for us. Maybe 3-5″ by the end of Sunday. But…hey, things chance so who really knows?  Looking beyond that we can anticipate some 30 degree weather next week and that sounds wonderful at this point. Windows open..well, maybe a little open, but the thought of some fresh air wafting through the house sounds so refreshing to me. I am SO ready for Spring. And if I’m that ready, just think what the unfortunate folks in the south and east of our country must feel like. Man…talk about a brutal winter. I heard that more than 2,400 cold temperature records have been broken.  This winter will go down in the record books, hopefully not to be repeated, for so many states in our nation. This one has been relentless, beastly and so damaging. Spring will seem like a bit of Heaven once it gets here.
