An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Currently 73 with an ENE wind of 3 mph. Feels like 73. Dew Point 63, Humidity 94%, Barometer 30.18 & rising, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 7:52 pm. Partly cloudy becoming a sunny afternoon. High around 84. Light and variable winds.

It remains unseasonably warm and will it looks like until about next Tuesday or so. Every morning heavy fog. Not bad weather unless you’re one of those who are anxious for fall weather to descend on us. I’m not one, so this is fine with me. Soon enough the temperatures will plummet. I’m perfectly willing to wait as long as possible for that to happen.

Currently 63 with an average winds currently calm. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 63, Humidity 99%, Barometer 30.15 & rising, Visibility 0.1 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 7:53 pm. Dense early morning fog. Cloudy skies will be come sunny with a high near 80. Light and variable winds.

Clear overnight skies. Low 58. Light and variable winds.

Waking up to dense fog seems to be the pattern we’re in right now. When I was a kid, we used to count the heavy fog days and add them up, that would be how many blizzards we’d have the following winter. I don’t remember how accurate that was, but I will say if there was any validity to that at all, we’re in big trouble this year. LOTS of heavy fog days this September. I guess we’ ll see how that goes, huh? :>)

Our nights are warming up a tad again and for me, that’s good. Not pleased to wake up in the morning to cold air. I’m thrilled that we have a small bout of 3 or 4 days of 80 degrees coming back to us. The more the merrier. At least for me. I know that soon, too soon, we’ll be waving goodbye to those numbers for far too long of a time.

Watching the East Coast and what’s taking aim at them, thinking about how busy everyone is – or should be – in preparation for what’s coming, I feel like we’re sort of stuck in a vacuum here. Nothing going on, nothing in sight, nothing spectacular or harsh. I’m not complaining, mind you. Happy as a clam at high tide that we’re not in any storm’s bullseye. But the stark difference between here and there is striking.

No matter what our weather, what we face today, all Americans must, absolutely must, stop and remember all of the lives lost in the cowardly terrorist attack on 9/11. For every life lost – and there were immediately 3,000 of them – many more lives were impacted by that lose. So much sorrow, so many tears. Grief that remains to this day. Not only did we lose lives, and a big part of the New York skyline, we lost the innocence we were wrapped in that allowed us to believe we were safe in our nation from the brainless, heartless actions of terrorists. And we must never forget that. Nor can we ever forgive that. Seared into our minds and hearts will be the date 9/11 and ever will it be.

Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Fall Is In The Air Already

Oh my but it definitely feels like fall here. It’s way too early for this. Not happy about it. I know, plenty of folks glad for the crisp air. I reckon my preference is for air to be a bit more soggy than crisp. Alas…

Watching Hurricane Florence gaining strength. Stranger things do happen, but as of now, it looks to be a strong storm slamming into the Carolinas. I’m hoping everyone is paying attention, taking precautions and making plans. I suspect, if it keeps to its current path, we up here in Michigan will be seeing some remnants of its being by perhaps next weekend for there abouts. We don’t really need any more rain right now, and I may be all wrong, but just looking at it, I don’t know how we can miss depending on how strong it becomes by the time it slams into the coast and barrels along. In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with those in its possible direct path.

Partly cloudy to cloudy tonight, low 54. NE winds 10 -20 mph.

OK, so lots of folks really feel like this is their kind of weather, they come alive in this chilly. Not me. I’m already nostalgic for the heat. I’ve already hauled out a light jacket. Although it does look like there is a small chance we might catch an 80 degree day around next Friday or Saturday, and I’m already anticipating that. Alas…definitely heading into my least favorite seasons. Woe is chilly me…

Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 South West Michigan – Chilly Weather Is Upon Us

Currently 61 with an ENE wind of 13 mph. Feels like 59. Dew Point 55, Humidity 82%, Barometer 30.23 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:14 am, Sunset 8:04 pm. Mix of sun and clouds in the morning will once again become a cloudy afternoon. High 67. ENE winds 10 -20 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low of 51. ENE winds 10 -20 mph.

Hard to admit that it’s already time to turn on the little ceramic heater in the mornings before hopping into the shower. Where did all that steamy, hot weather go? We all know how much of a fan of cold weather I am not. And I thought I’d appreciate it once it started to cool down, but I’m finding that not to be the case already. I hate being cold. Even chilly. Alas….

Looking more and more like there could be a hurricane slamming into the East coast next week. Remains to be seen. Plenty could change by then, but the window for that change is slowly closing. I do hope, will all of this advance notice, everyone is getting ready and prepared. There should be no excuse if they aren’t. They’re being given plenty of notice.

Mostly cloudy. Low 52. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Much cooler weather is bringing out the comforters for the beds, even some light jackets – those mainly because there are so many businesses with their A/C still blasting away, in spite of what the outside weather is doing, that it’s rather unwise to go willy-nilly out into a store or restaurant right now and assume you’re going to be comfortable. It’s the changeable season time, so simply be prepared is the best way to go through your days.

Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Blessedly Cool

Currently 59 with a NE wind of 6 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point, 55, Humidity 84%, Barometer 30.29 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:11 am, Sunset 8:07 pm. A morning mix of sun and clouds will give way to all clouds in the afternoon. High 74. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy. Low 40. Light and variable winds.

The heat and humidity have moved on – the A/C is off. And I think it’s off now until next summer. Doubtful that any of the heat/humidity we’ve been dealing with will return. At least not on the scope we’ve seen this year. I heard we had nineteen 90 degree days. Now for my area, that’s a lot! No wonder it felt like the hottest, driest summer ever. I’m not a fan of winter, in fact, I detest that season with a purple passion. However, for the first time I can remember, I’m not entirely dreading it’s arrival. I’m thinking being socked in by cold weather sounds pretty darn good right about now. I will, of course, hibernate most of it away, but it’s been SO hot and SO dry here, the idea of the coming weather isn’t as bad a thought as usual. Funny how an unusual sweltering summer can do that.
