An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 South West Michigan – Ridiculous Time Change Again

Currently 38 with an E wind of 12 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.30 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 5:29 pm. 80% chance of rain today. High near 50. ESE winds 15 – 25 mph with higher gusts possible.

90% chance of overnight rain. Low 45. SSE winds 10 – 20 mph.

Going to be a rather ugly day, I’m afraid. Rain, wind…nothing pleasant to be out and about in. I guess we can be grateful we’re not looking at anything drastic. So many other places in the nation are. No tornadoes, no floods. No wildfires.

Once again we’ve messed around with the time, changed the clocks, watches…a ridiculous thing to do twice a year. If only there was someone in government smart enough to finally stand up and say enough. Daylight savings time serves no purpose, it’s disruptive and unnecessary. For goodness sake, pick one and stick with it. This is silly beyond believe that we’re continuing with this time change and pretending it needed or wanted.

Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Peeks Of Sun Possible Today

Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – A Few Peeks Of Sun Possible Today

Currently 39 with a NW wind of 7 mph. Feels like 33. Dew Point 31, Humidity 73%, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:19 am, Sunset 6:31 pm. Partly to mostly cloudy today, high 47. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a 50% chance of rain showers. Low 34. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

No sun showing right now, but there are some areas of clouds that appear to be on the thin side, so there is some hope. Temperatures are staying on the mild side for us for the time being. Much appreciated, too. All too soon, the numbers will be falling into unfavorable area.

November 2, 2018 South West Michigan – Plenty Of Clouds, Chilly Temps

November 2, 2018 South West Michigan – Plenty Of Clouds, Chilly Temps

Currently 36 with an average wind from the N of 7 mph. Feels like 30. Dew Point 31. Humidity 83%, Barometer 29.84 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:17 am, Sunset 6:32 pm. Partly cloudy to cloudy today, high 49. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy to partly cloudy overnight, low 31. Light and variable winds.

Wow – watching video of the snow storm socking it to folks in Italy. Scary. And simply makes the fact that winter is on the way and it won’t be a terrible long time from now before we see things like that coming at us, too. So far, Canada doesn’t appear to be under a solid blanket of cold air and so it isn’t sliding down to affect us yet.  (Sure wish Canada would keep its cold air up there where it belongs) We know, full well, that won’t be the case in probably a matter of weeks from now. Not looking forward to any of it.

Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Start To November

Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy Start To November

Currently 43 with an average wind from the NE of 8 mph. Feels like 38. Dew Point 37, Humidity 80%, Barometer 29.92 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:16 am, Sunset 6:33 pm.  Mostly cloudy today with a high of 47. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy tonight, low 34. NNE 5 -1 0 mph.

Tons of leaves all over the place and they’re too damp to do much with at this point. Alas…

I was taking heart that the Old Farmer’s Almanac sounded as if it predicted a slightly above temperature, below precipitation winter for us. However, listening to the report out from the government figures, it appears to be exactly the opposite of that. Not what we want to hear. Colder with more snow? What the heck is good about that? Yeah, I know. We have a weak El Nino or what ever coming along this year. Swell. No matter what the excuse, Old Man Winter will give us what comes along and the best we can do is the best we can do.

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But Dry Halloween For Us

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy But Dry Halloween For Us

Currently 47 with an average NW winds of 9 mph. Feels like 43. Dew Point 45, Humidity 92%, Bartometer 29.86 & rising, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:15 am, Sunset 6:34 pm. Cloudy with a few peeks at the sun later today. High 56. N W winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a low of 39. Light and variable winds.\

OK, so there are usually few if any trick or treaters here these days, but for those out and about, they won’t be rained or snowed on this year. Going to be chilly but dry. Can’t ask for more than that this time of year in Michigan.

Have an appropriately scary Halloween y’all.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds With Rain Coming Later

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds With Rain Coming Later

Currently 42 with a SE wind of 10 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.04 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 6:36 pm. Partly cloudy to cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon rain. High 57. SSE winds 10 -15 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Low 47. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

It says partly cloudy, but even the scant areas of blue are faint as a thin layer of clouds is up there refusing to clear away long enough for those little patches to be the color they might be. Soon enough even those will be gone as solid clouds close in bringing rain. In fact, as of now, it appears that only two days in the coming week – Thursday and possibly Saturday – will give us a break from precipitation. And who knows, things can change with the elimination of even those days offering something other than rain. It is that time of year where the rains will become more regular, stripping the color from the trees and leaving not much more than bare branches by around mid-November. Sad, but that’s the way it goes.

Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Dreary Fall Day

Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Dreary Fall Day

Currently 42 with a WNW wind of 5 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.00 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 6:37 pm. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 51. WNW winds 10- 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight. low 36. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Measured .16″ of rain in the gauge this morning. Expecting maybe a bit more today, but more definitely tomorrow. It’s the usual chilly rain with leaves falling along with the raindrops.  Temperatures hanging mostly in the 40s this coming week, so not bad yet. That’s appreciated. With what’s coming eventually, none of this is bad.

Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Rainy Sunday

Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Rainy Sunday

Currently 40 with an ESE wind of 9 mph. Feels like 34. Dew Point 39, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.64 & falling, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 6:39 pm. 100% chance of rain, some storms could be heavy, high 44. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy tonight, low 36. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

At the moment some strong storms are heading my way so expecting some heavy rain, lightening around here momentarily.  Sounds, for the most part, like nothing much more than a cool, rainy day. Rather ugly out there and not a great day to be out and about. Appears to be more rain coming along about Tuesday and the…guess what…next weekend. Swell.

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Rather Gloomy Weekend On Tap

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Rather Gloomy Weekend On Tap

Currently 42 with an average wind from the NNE of 8 mph. Feels like 37. Dew Point 39, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.87 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 6:40 pm. Cloudy with a slight chance of rain. High 47. NNE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy to partly cloudy. Low 35. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not much in the line of sunshine in store for us this weekend. Tomorrow sounds like a total washout. Sorry for those who only have that day to enjoy outside. Probably not going to happen this week as it sounds, as of now, like about a 90% chance of rain. Not a great weekend for driving about looking at fall color.

Friday, Oct. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Perhaps Rain Overnight

Friday, Oct. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Perhaps Rain Overnight

Currently 39 with an ENE wind of 6 mph. Feels like 35. Dew Point 35, Humidity 85%, Barometer 29.97 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 6:42 pm. Cloudy today with a high of 53. E winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a slight chance of rain. Low 40. ENE 5 – 10 mph.

Rather a blah day out there. No wind to speak of, nothing but clouds. Guess it could be worse, so this will do. There’s a slight chance of rain tonight, a better chance Saturday and Sunday…not the best news for those who need the weekend for chores or want to get out there and catch some color before it’s all blown away. We’ll see. Sometimes things don’t go the way they’re predicted.
