An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 South West Michigan – A Rainy November Saturday

Currently 43 with a S wind of 9 mph making it feel like 38 degrees. Dew Point 42, Humidity 97%, Barometer 29.52 & falling, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 5:10 pm. 90% chance of rain today. High 45. SSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy with a low around 35. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

We do have this nice little warm up, but along with it came the rain. No matter, it’s so much better than getting snow. And that, it seems like we might be getting some of  from Winter Storm Bruce as it barrels past. Hopefully not much, but I guess it’s a wait and see thing. Matter of fact there is now a Winter Storm Watch in effect from sometime Sunday to about noon on Monday.  Right now, it looks like others will be bearing the brunt of this particular storm. Not so good for all of those traveling back from Thanksgiving Day festivities.

Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Welcome Couple Days Of Warmup

Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 South West Michigan – Welcome Couple Days Of Warmup

Currently 35 with an average SSE wind of 10 mph making it feel like 27 degrees. Dew Point 28, Humidity 74%, Barometer 30.11 and falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 5:11 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy today with a high of 46. SSE 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy with a 90% chance of overnight light rain showers. Low 41. SSE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Wonderful to have a couple of days above freezing – today is a delight. Sunshine works wonders on everyone and we get precious little of it here in Michigan during the winter months. Without the weather hampering those willing to go out and trample each other in search of Black Friday bargains, today’s weather can only be a blessing. Thankfully, I do not number among those folks. I’ll putter around here, enjoying the sunshine and relishing the fact that I don’t have to take my life in hand and do battle in celebration of a day of so-called sales. To each his own, I reckon.

Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Frigid Thanksgiving Day Weather

Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 South West Michigan – Frigid Thanksgiving Day Weather

Currently 19 with an E wind of 12 mph making it feel like a whole 7 degrees. Brrrr…. Dew Point 8, Humidity 61%, Barometer 30.54 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 5:12 pm. Cloudy with a few snow flurries possible. High 29. ESE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 27. SE winds 10 – 15.

Okay, so it’s supposed to warm up to the 40 degree mark tomorrow…but for today, forget it. It’s plain old cold and isn’t going to warm up enough to even think warm. Not just here, either. Watching The Thanksgiving Day Parade and everyone there is freezing as they do their best to be festive. Frankly, anyone out in the kind of weather this Thanksgiving Day is offering up, is  plain silly. But hey, that’s just me. I reckon some of those folks have had plans made all year long and since there’s no way to tell how kind or cruel Mother Nature will be on any particular day, luck wasn’t with them this time around.

At any rate, do have a grand and glorious Thanksgiving Day. Be thankful for whatever you have.

Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold Thanksgiving Eve Day

Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold Thanksgiving Eve Day

Currently 27 with an average wind from the NNW of 12 mph making it feel like a nippy 17 degrees. Dew Point 14, Humidity 57%, Barometer 30.27 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:42 am, Sunset 5:12 pm. Cloudy with occasional sun sightings possible through the afternoon. High 29. N winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy, low 16. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Lots of folks have plenty of running around to do on the day before Thanksgiving and it’s going to be a cold run here. Not even due to reach as high as freezing, just stubbornly staying below. And tonight will be downright frigid. If things go as predicted tomorrow promises to be just as cold. Hopefully everyone will stay bundled up as they travel here and there.

Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Snow Showers Today/Tonight

Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Snow Showers Today/Tonight

Currently 25 with a N wind of 5 mph making it feel like 18 degrees. Dew Point 14, Humidity 64%, Barometer 30.22, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 5:13 pm. Cloudy with a 70%  chance of snow showers, high 32, W winds 10 – 15 mph.

50% chance of overnight snow showers, low 28, W winds 10 -20 mph

There’s a trace of snow on the ground already with occasional tiny snow flakes drifting down through the air. I suspect those will begin to gang up and make their presence know in larger numbers very soon. I saw something on social media this morning about finding joy in snow, because even if you don’t, there will still be snow. And I appreciate the wisdom of that. I do. And I try. I truly do. But in all honesty I usually fall short on the joy of snow part. Alas…heading into the wrong season for me.

Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold But No Snow Falling So Far Today

Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold But No Snow Falling So Far Today

Currently 33 with a SSW wind of 10 mph making it feel like 25 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 84%, Barometer 30.08 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:39 am, Sunset 5:14 pm. Cloudy with the possibility of flurries or snow showers. High mid 30s. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy to partly cloudy with the possibility of flurries early on. Low 22. NNW winds 5- 10 mph.

Right at the moment there is a weak sun striving bravely to break through the cloud cover. Good enough. At least it’s trying. Not going to warm up much today, but hey…if it just doesn’t snow, that’s good enough for me.

Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds And Cool Temperatures Continue

Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds And Cool Temperatures Continue

Currently 29 with an average wind from the ENE of 1 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30:30, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 5:15 pm. Cloudy with the possibility of a bit of sun breaking through later today. High 36. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear to cloudy overnight. Low 25. Light and variable winds.

A rather bleak looking morning so far with nothing much more than a blah gray sky overhead. Tomorrow, for the moment, appears to be holding out the possibility of a frozen mix – which is the pits when it comes to winter driving conditions. I’m hoping that changes by morning, but for right now, that’s what we’re looking at.  Right now the beginning of next week seems to be offering the same conditions. So not good.

Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds With Off And On Snow Showers

Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds With Off And On Snow Showers

Currently 32 with an average wind from the NW of 6 mph making it feel like 26. Dew Point 27, Humidity 83%, Barometer 30.30 & rising, Visibility 0.5 mi., Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 5:16 pm. 80% chance of snow showers, high mid 30s. NNW winds 5- 10 mph.

Overnight clouds, low 26. Light and variable winds.

Not much going on today. That’s fine. Snow showers come and go and side roads are still probably not the best. Looks to be a few days during this coming week where we will have a good chance of having peeks at the sun. Going to be welcome. From November right on through to Spring, we have a shortage of sunshine so when it shows up, we’re grateful.  It’s Michigan winter.

Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 – South West Michigan – Combination Snow/Ice On Ground This Morning

Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 – South West Michigan – Combination Snow/Ice On Ground This Morning

Currently 30 with a SW wind of 9 mph making it feel like 22 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.80 & rising, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 5:17 pm. 30% chance of scattered morning snow showers, cloudy afternoon. High 39. W winds 10 – 20 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low 31. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Winter Weather Alerts were in place today until 10 am. Road conditions are bad as a combination of snow and ice to a depth of .25″ is making things miserable. Listening to the radio on waking, I heard there were plenty of accidents and slide-offs during the morning commute. Personally, I cancelled a morning appointment that I won’t be resetting until spring. If I don’t have to go out in this wintry weather stuff, I won’t. I’m one of the lucky ones and I hope for the best for those who must be out and about no matter how bad the roads.

Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Expecting Snow Today

Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Expecting Snow Today

Currently 28 with an average wind from the ENE of 8 mph making it feel like 20 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 72%, Barometer 30.20 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 5:17 pm. 90% chance of periods of snow. 1-3″ possible. High 34, ENE wind 5 – 10 mph.

60% chance of overnight snow. Low 31. SSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Precious little color left on the trees now. Here and there some lingers, but the main show has come and gone.

Nothing happening yet, but the call for an inch to 3 inches of snow today make me feel like I should probably get out and run my errands now rather than later.  We’ll see how it goes. Watching scenes of some serious snow falling elsewhere and I would hope it stays there – anywhere else rather than here. Since I have very little say-so in any of it, I reckon I’ll simply cope with whatever comes along.
