An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 South West Michigan – A Peek At The Sun Possible Today

Currently 24 with a WNW wind of 1 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.24 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Mostly cloudy but peeks of the sun entirely possible today. High 33. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy tonight with a 30% chance of after midnight show showers. Low 287. Light and variable winds.

The cloud cover is certainly there, but it does appear to be on the thin side, so hopefully some of it will tear apart long enough to allow the sun to shine through once in awhile today. Over the past month sun sighting has been on the scarce side.

Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – Mostly Clouds But Not So Cold

Currently 31 with an average wind from the N of 11 mph making it feel like 22 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.93 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Cloudy today. High in the low to mid 30s. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight, low near 25. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Blessedly relieved of new snow for now. Not sure how long this will last, but grateful for it for now. The recent rain has cleared away most of the snow except for the deeply shaded areas. Also nice to see. Thursday seems at least for now holding out a threat of new snow, but things can change on a daily basis here, so it’s a wait and see game.

Quite foggy this morning with a light intermittent rain. Measured .49 in the gauge which was all rain.  Our rain could eventually become mixed with snow. Just an interesting mash up of assorted weather for us today and tonight.

Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 South West Michigan – Bit Of Warm Up, Rain, Wind

Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 South West Michigan – Bit Of Warm Up, Rain, Wind

Currently 31 with an average E wind of 14 mph making it feel like 21. Dew Point 30, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 7:523 am, Sunset 5:08 pm. Light fog, light rain morning will become a steady afternoon rain. High 37. E wind 20 – 30 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain, Windy. Low 36. E winds 20 -30 mph.

Only slightly foggy but with a misty feel to the air this morning. Warmer than it’s been lately and that part feels good. It does seem as if there is a possibility of some wintry mix shuffling in but I’m thinking mostly rain for us today and tonight. Tomorrow, too. Should get rid of a lot of our snow ground cover, that’s always good. It’s rather depressing to have the ground and the sky all the same color. Usually we face this in January, February but this year we’re starting early. Seen a lot of that color palette during this past November.

Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning For, Afternoon Partly Cloudy

Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning For, Afternoon Partly Cloudy

Currently 29 with an E wind of 1 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.  Areas of morning for, partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 37. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy overnight, low 24. E winds 10 – 15 mph.

Light fog this morning after a trace of overnight snow. Will be nice to see any peek at the sun we can get later today. Fingers crossed on that. We’ve received only about 10% of possible sunshine for the entire month of November. It’s been a rather dreary month. A little lift in the temperatures for the next several days until about next Tuesday, where it looks to be taking another dive bomb. Guess the thing to do is enjoy the heck out of what we get that isn’t frigid this year.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow Showers, Cold

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 South West Michigan – Snow Showers, Cold

Currently 24 with an ESE wind of 9 mph making it feel like 14 mph. Dew Point 21, Humidity 89%, Barometer 30.03 & falling, Visibilit 0.5 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.  70% chance of snow showers. High 31. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph

Cloudy overnight with the possibility of more snow showers. Low 26. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Looking at the national weather map, it appears as if yet another blast of frigid air will be compassing the entire country about mid week coming. Can you believe this rotten weather? It’s already feeling like the middle of winter and we aren’t officially even there yet. This is promising to be an ugly, long winter.

Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Just Plain Cold

Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 South West Michigan – Just Plain Cold

Currently 26 with an average wind from the WNW of 9 mph making it feel like 17 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 75%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 5:09 pm. Cloudy with possible flurries or snow showers, high near 30. W winds 10 -15 mph.

40% chance of overnight snow showers. Low 23. Light and variable winds.

Our high today likely won’t even get to the freezing mark. That’s cold. To think we are weeks away from the actual beginning of winter is tiresome to think about. We’re well into winter weather here and I’m sort of shocked when the fact that we’re still in the month of November, not in December yet at all, is brought to my attention. This promises to be one long, drawn out miserable winter with such an early start. Not a pleasant thought.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold, Snow Showers Continue

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold, Snow Showers Continue

Currently 27 with a WNW wind of 10 mph making it feel like 18 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 75%, Barometer 29.89 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 5:09 pm. Cloudy with a 70% chance of snow showers. High 29. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy with snow flurries or showers possible. Low 23. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Heard this morning that we’ve had the whole sum of 10% possible sunshine for the month of November. Meaning, for 90% of the time we were under clouds and gloom. Swell. Don’t know if I mind the lack of sunshine or the cold the most. Probably about even on that.  Winter is an ugly month for so many of us and this year it’s starting even earlier than usual. Wonderful!

Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – First Big Snow Of The Winter

Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 South West Michigan – First Big Snow Of The Winter

Currently 26 with an average wind for the N of 14 mph making it feel like 15 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 93%, Barometer 29.69 & rising, Visibility 0.3 mi., Sunrise 7:48 am, Sunset 5;10 pm. 100% chance of snow in the morning, tapering off in the afternoon. High 32. NNW 15 – 25.

Overcast with a few flurries or snow showers overnight. Low 24. NW winds 10 -20 mph.

Well, Winter Storm Bruce didn’t totally ignore us but it could have been much worse than it is. Measured 3.3″ of snow this morning and we might end up with another inch or so today. Plenty more in other places, so we can cope with this. Sounds as if some cold air is going to be descending on the country to add to the misery. Yup! It’s winter.

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Approaching

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 South West Michigan – Winter Storm Approaching

Currently 38 with a WNW wind of 5 mph making it feel like 34 degrees. Dew Point 31, Humidity 76%, Barometer 29.90 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:46 am, Sunset 5:10 pm. Rain and snow mixed afternoon. Precip 40%. Temperatures steady mid to upper 30s. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7:00pm Sunday through 1:00 Monday. 100% chance of overnight snow. 5-8″ possible. Low around 30. NE winds 15 – 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph possible.

Sounds like Winter Storm Bruce is going to take a swipe at our area on the way by. Things change, but for right now, it seems as if we’re in for a fairly good bout of snow. Anticipating school closings and difficult travel for those heading off to work in the morning. None of it sounds good. It’s a wait and see thing right now, but perhaps we won’t be able to dodge this particular bullet. Dang!
