An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Afternoon Sunshine

Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Afternoon Sunshine

Currently 36 with a NE wind of 1 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 34, Humidity 96%, Barometer 30.20 & rising, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Areas of morning fog, partly cloudy afternoon. High 42. Light and variable winds.

Mostly cloudy early becoming partly cloudy after midnight. Low 27. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

The overnight rain (Measured .35″) has pretty much cleared away the snow ground cover except in sheltered spots. Nice to see bare ground again, even if it’s a muddy mess for now. Seeing anything other than the absence of color that is white encourages me. Sounds like a really decent weekend with, so far, no precip showing up until about next Thursday. And for now, that is expected to be rain. Hurray!

Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds, Some Sun, Freezing Rain…Getting It All

Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds, Some Sun, Freezing Rain…Getting It All

Currently 31 with an ESE wind of 3 mph making it feel like 28 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 81%, Barometer 30.14 & rising, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm. Cloudy early with peeks of the sun later. High 37. Light and variable winds.

100% chance of light freezing rain early, then rain overnight. Low 29. Light and variable winds.

Sounds like today is a good day to get out and about tending to whatever needs tending. Maybe not so much tomorrow. And certainly not tonight. Freezing rain is a misery, making roads slick and dangerous. Fingers crossed that part of it all misses us.

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Afternoon Wintry Mix Possible

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Afternoon Wintry Mix Possible

Currently 29 with an average wind from the ESE of 14 mph making it feel like 18 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 84%, Barometer 29.92 & falling, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Partly cloudy morning with an 80% chance of afternoon snow/rain mix. High 37. SE winds 10 -20 mph.

A few snow flurries overnight. Low 26. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not sure what today will bring, but looking forward already for some sunshine about Saturday. At least that’s the rumor.  For now our snow pack is dwindling but might be added to later today and overnight. We’ll see.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 South West Michigan – No Much Sun For Today

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 South West Michigan – No Much Sun For Today

Currently 31 with an average wind from the WSW of 12 mph making it feel like 21 degrees. Dew point 25, Humidity 78%, Barometer 30.02 & falling, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Mostly cloudy today with a high in the low to mid 30s. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a low near 25. SE winds 10 -15 mph,

Not expecting any new precipitation today, but I guess tomorrow could being us some snow. Not much, but enough to probably make the roads a mess again. I’m just grateful we didn’t get the snow that the south and east got from Winter Storm Diego. What a mess from that one! Pre-winter is striking some heavy blows this time around. Wonder what the real winter will be bringing.

Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy To Sunny Today

Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy To Sunny Today

Currently 28 with a S wind of 4 mph making it feel like 22 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.26, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Cloudy morning to sunny afternoon. High near 35. WSW 10 -15 mph.

Mostly cloudy evening will become partly cloudy. Low 28. SW winds 10 -15 mph.

Rather mild out there this morning – well, with a light wind, it seems so. And the promise of sunshine today makes it all good. Right at the moment – and of course, we all know how quickly that can change – they seem to have eliminated the wintry mix mess from this week’s forecast. Perhaps a snowy day, maybe a day with some rain, but as of this moment, no miserable mix of the two. Folks have a hard enough time driving in either one, but when they combine – nightmare travel time. So far, so good.

Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 South West Michigan – Darn Cold Out There

Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 South West Michigan – Darn Cold Out There

Currently 16 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph making it feel like 10 degrees. Dew Point 16, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.41 & falling, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Cloudy today with a few peeks at the sun possible later on today. High 33. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly a clear sky tonight. Low 22. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

It’s plain old cold outside. Someone just pulled out from the parking lot and the snow was crunchy under tire. That’s cold. I know the critters – all the squirrels of various colors and the birds – seemed to be anxious for me to come out and scatter the morning’s offering. There were all on it almost before I got back inside.

This coming week seems to be bringing us far too many opportunities for a wintry mix, freezing drizzle. Not liking the sound of any of that and I’m hoping things change before it all arrives on our unwelcoming doorsteps.

Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Some But Cold

Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Some But Cold

Currently 24 with an average wind from the WNE of 8 mph making it feel like 15 degrees. Dew Point 15, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.60 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Partly cloudy with a high near 30. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy with a low near 20. Light and variable winds.

Chilly outside but the cloud cover is thin in places, which isn’t all bad. Looks like next week our temperatures might rise into the 30s with rain being offered. Trouble is, that will probably end up with us being in that wintry mix mess that makes travel treacherous. I’m hoping not, but not ruling it out either.

Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 South West Michigan- Cold, Possible Flurries

Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 South West Michigan- Cold, Possible Flurries

Currently 23 with a SSE wind of 3 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.47 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:00am, Sunset 5:06pm.  Generally cloudy today with a few snow flurries possible. High 27. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight. Low near 20. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Feeling downright nippy out there this morning. Hoping to see a peek at the sun off and on today, but that’s not a given. More likely to see snow flurries than sun rays.  Might not be winter yet, but it’s doing a mighty good job of pretending. If this weather continues, it’s going to feel like we’ve gone through a very long winter by the time it all departs.

Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold And Getting Colder

Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold And Getting Colder

Currently 28 with a WNW wind of 13 mph making it feel like 17 degrees. Dew Point 21, Humidity 75%, Barometer 30.13 & rising, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. Cloudy with a few snow flurries possible. High 29. WNW winds 10 -20 mph.

Tonight should see partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. Low 22. NNW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Not going to warm up today and most certainly not tomorrow. Tomorrow is holding out the promise of a whole 20 – 25 degrees for us to enjoy. Not liking this. Not liking this at all.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 South West Michigan – Light Snow, Bad Roads

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 South West Michigan – Light Snow, Bad Roads

Currently 28 with a WSW wind of 7 mph making it feel like 20 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 0.6 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:06 pm. 70% chance of light morning snow. High 29. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

40% chance of overnight snow showers. Low 28. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Lots of accident reports on the morning radio today. Sounds like just a low enough temperature and enough snow to make the roads treacherous. I know the errands I need to do to day may be done later today – if the roads get better – or I may have to wait until Friday. Tomorrow doesn’t sound much better. Not a good day out there today.
