An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wednesday, April 24, 2019-South West Michigan-Tree Buds Continue To Grow

Currently 43 with an E wind of 1 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.05 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:46 am, Sunset 8:34 pm. A mostly sunny morning will turn into a mostly cloudy afternoon. High 64. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy overnight, low 42. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

According to the big weather map, the stormy weather is off to the south of us, some to the north and perhaps a bit off to the west. Lucky us, right now, we are in the clear. Nice to be nestled in that spot. Hoping we can keep our position for awhile.

Big flooding again, this time off to the Dallas area. SO much flooding going on anymore. My heart aches for the folks involved. Been there, done that, and know how destructive water can be. How terrible the after flood clean up can be.

Tuesday, April 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds, Perhaps Some Rain

Currently 44 with a WNW winds 17 mph making it feel like 37 degrees. Dew Point 42, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.86 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:47 am, Sunset 8:33 pm. Cloudy skies with a slight chance of morning rain will become a partly cloudy afternoon. High 58. NW winds 15 – 25 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 35. NNW winds 10 -15 mph decreasing to 5 mph.

Not a very pleasant morning. Rather cool with the feel of rain in the air likely all left over from last night when we did get a bit of rain. The upper cold air disturbance is now moving off to the East and hopefully will take the moisture off and away for the rest of the day. The next few days look rather enjoyable with some sunshine in our forecast. I guess we have to put up with a blah day once in awhile to appreciate those lovely days when they come our way. Fair enough.

Had a fabulous day of lovely weather for Easter this year. Not all that ordinary for Michigan. It was warm, plentiful sunshine, light winds and the sight of trees beginning the turn to budding out and turning green was uplifting. Today is destined to be another one – a day to cherish. Rain returns tomorrow, but that’s a spring thing, so we can cope with a day or so of rain. It’s just so nice to be typing a temperature of of 70 degrees now. Been awhile.

Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Mix Of Sun And Clouds

We are blessed with fairly decent Easter weather today. No rain, snow, excessive wind…just a nice day. How did that happen? No matter, we’re grateful for it. I hope everyone has a blessed day, no matter what weather Mother Nature has decided to grace you with on this special day.

Saturday, April 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Finally Seeing The Beginning Of Tree Buds

Currently 44 with an average wind from the NNE of 16 mph making it feel like 36 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 58%, Barometer 29.81, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:52 am, Sunset 8:30 pm. Sunny today with a high of 63. NNE winds 15 – 25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Clear overnight skies. Low 37. ESE winds shifting to the West 10-15 mph.

Glorious mostly bright blue skies this morning and finally way up at the top, we can see the beginning of the spring tree buds. Been a long time coming, it seems, but there they are. Spring seems late in settling in this time around, but it feels like it’s here now. I love watching everything come to life again, the trees leaf out, the greenery start to shoot up from the ground. It’s my absolute favorite season. Today seems like a grand start.

Friday, April 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get A Bit More Rain Today

Friday, April 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get A Bit More Rain Today

Currently 40 with an average wind from the N of 13 mph making it feel like 33 degrees. Dew Point 37, Humidity 86%, Barometer 29.80 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:54 am, Sunset 8:29 pm.  Overcast today with a chance of morning rain showers. High 56. NNE winds 15-25 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy overnight with a low of 38. NNE winds 10 -20 mph.

The air is feeling mighty damp this morning. It’s like a fine mist right at the moment, can’t decide whether to rain or clear up. It could just on on and clear up for now. We’ve had plenty of moisture lately. So far, Easter Sunday still is holding out the promise of a fairly sunny, dry day. Fingers crossed on that. We all know how fast the weather forecast can change.

Thursday, April 18, 2019-Southwest Michigan – Rain Almost Every Day Forecast

Thursday, April 18, 2019-Southwest Michigan – Rain Almost Every Day Forecast

Currently 55 with an average wind from the WSW of 9 mph making it feel like 53 degrees. Dew Point 54, Humidity 94%, Barometer 29.55, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:28 pm. 70% chance of rain. Thunder likely. High 56. WNW winds 10 -20 mph.

60% chance of overnight rain. Low 39. N 10-20 mph.

Looking ahead, it would seem we are expecting rain every day but…and fingers crossed on this, Easter Sunday. If that one day clears up and turns pleasant that would be grand. We’ll just have to wait and see. But none of it coming at us, for now anyway, look to be anything severe like what the South is dealing with today. Just regular rain? We can live easily with that. Eventually it will stop and hopefully our weather will emerge warm, sunny and wonderful. We’re waiting.

Wednesday, April 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Expecting Some Rain

Currently 40 with an E wind of 11 mph making it feel like 34 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 99%, Barometer 30.05, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 6:57 am, Sunset 8:26 pm. Cloudy with a 60% chance of afternoon rain showers. High 56. E winds 10 -20 mph.

80% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Low 53. SSE winds 10 -20 mph.

Rather looking forward to the sound of thunder tonight. The rains today and overnight should help remove the last of the snow. Much happier with rain coming our way…and you all know the old April Showers/May Flowers stuff. Also looking forward to seeing some flowers. If it takes until May, so be it. But whenever they put in an appearance, they will be as welcome as the coming rain.

Tuesday, April 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Today’s Rain Will Help Remove Yesterday’s Snow

Tuesday, April 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Today’s Rain Will Help Remove Yesterday’s Snow

Currently 39 with an average wind from the ESE of 7 mph making it feel like 34 degrees. Dew Point 37, Humidity 96%, Barometer 30.00 & falling, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:25 pm. 100% chance of rain today. High 57. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Overcast overnight. Patchy fog possible. Low 39. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

A dreary day but at least the rain will help get rid of the rest of the snow we were covered with yesterday morning. Lost a lot of it during the day yesterday but still too much of it left in nooks and crannies here and there. Don’t want to see any of it.

Monday, April 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Woke To 4″ Of Heavy, Crusty Snow

Monday, April 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Woke To 4″ Of Heavy, Crusty Snow

Currently 38 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph making it feel like 31 degrees. Dew Point 28, Humidity 68%, Barometer 29.94 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:00 am, Sunset 8:24 pm. Mix of sun and clouds with a high around 47. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy with a 60% chance of overnight rain. Low 32. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Okay, snow everywhere – again. Measured 4″ of the heavy, crusty stuff this morning as I went out – in boots again – to clear away a patch for feeding the birds and squirrels. This should melt soon enough, but Lord…everyone is SO tired of this. And yes, I know it’s nothing compared to the destruction of the tornadoes off to the south. But I’m complaining anyway.

Went to an outdoor/hardware type store yesterday for a few things and almost cried looking at the flowers, the daffodils and such like, sitting out in flats hoping for new homes but instead getting snow and a frozen slap from Mother Nature. Sad. Really sad sight.
