An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Just want to close the blinds and refuse to look outside today. The worst April ever. We’re in our second snow storm in two weeks. Too tiresome to even think about. At the rate it’s snowing right now, we could easily get a couple of inches of snow. What the heck is wrong with this picture? It’s April, for goodness sake!

Saturday, April 13, 2019-South West Michigan-Very Windy Conditions

Currently 41 with an average wind from the WSW of 24 mph making it feel like 30 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 51%, Barometer 30.06 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:22 pm. Windy with a mix of sun and clouds. High 47. WSW winds 20 -30 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 33. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Very windy out there this morning. Leaves are piling up in my tiny back yard so they look to be about knee deep. Swell. Going to just leave there there, I guess, and see where they end up next. It’s too cold to be sitting out in the back yet anyway. But we seem to be shifting from a snowy day to a windy day and then back again. For instance…yes, tomorrow we could end up with another inch to 3 inches of snow. Just a miserable month of April. Sounds like it’s doomed to be one to the end.

Friday, April 12, 2019-South West Michigan-Cloudy And Rainy

Currently 43 with a SW wind of 14 mph making it feel like 36 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.64 & rising, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:05 am, Sunset 8:20 pm. Possible showers. Decreasing clouds in the afternoon and becoming very windy. High 52. WSW winds 20 -30 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 36. WSW winds 20 -30 mph with gusty winds decreasing after midnight.

So-the rain washed away the snow. But get this…more snow is predicted for Sunday and believe it or not again for next week around Saturday. Is there no end to this ugly winter weather? Is Mother Nature freaking kidding around with us? This is turning out to be one lousy month of April. Not happy about this!

Thursday, April 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Miserable April Weather

Thursday, April 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Miserable April Weather

Currently 33 with an E wind of 25 mph making it feel like 21 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 76%, Barometer 30.03 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:07 am, Sunset 8:19 pm. Cloudy and windy today. A slight chance of rain showers. High 45. E winds 25 – 35 mph.

100% chance of thunderstorms and wind. Low 42. ESE winds 20 – 30 mph with higher gusts possible.

Not a happy sight in the middle of April, looking out and seeing snow. Not even close. It should warm up quickly enough to melt it away, it won’t be hanging on forever, but it’s just the thought of it. &#*$#%^&** weather for April. And that’s the name of that tune.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019-South West Michigan-Waiting For Winter Storm Wesley

Wednesday, April 10, 2019-South West Michigan-Waiting For Winter Storm Wesley

Currently 37 with an average wind from the ENE of 12 mph making it feel like 29 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 75%, Barometer 30.07, Visibility 10 mil., Sunrise 7:08 am, Sunset 8:18 pm. Overcast with a slight chance of rain today. High 47. ENE winds 10 – 15 mph.

90% chance tonight of rain/snow. 1-3″ of snow/ice expected. Low 31. ENE winds 20-30 mph.

Well…so Wesley – not the dread pirate Wesley but the rotten winter storm Wesley – is on the way. We will be lucky – if luck you could call it for mid April weather – in that we won’t be in the bullseye for the worst of Wesley. Lots and lots of snow elsewhere, but what we will get is more than what we want or need. Winter is flat out getting sickening and we’ve all had more than enough of it.

Tuesday, April 9, 2019 South West Michigan-Flying Clouds, Cooling Off

Tuesday, April 9, 2019 South West Michigan-Flying Clouds, Cooling Off

Currently 45 with a W wind of 12 mph making it feel like 39 degrees. Dew Point 36, Humidity 72%, Barometer 29.83, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:10 am, Sunset 8:17 pm. Mix of sun and clouds today, high 57. WNW winds 15 -25 mph.

A few overnight clouds, low 32. NNW winds 10 -20 mph.

The wind during the night was already kicking up, helping to bring Winter Storm Wesley flying across the nation. The sooner that nasty, powerful winter storm blows through, the better. This is insane, having weather like this in what should be a gentle month. And I don’t really care how many periods of snow there have been on record in the month of April – they simply do not belong there. And it doesn’t help seeing the numbers. Who cares? Really! Winter storms should be over and done by the time we get this far into Spring. And that’s the name of that tune.

Monday, April 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Thinning Clouds This Morning

Monday, April 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Thinning Clouds This Morning

Currently 53 with a W wind of 10 mph making it feel like 49 degrees. Dew Point 49, Humidity 87%, Barometer 29.86 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:12 am, Sunset 8:16 pm.d Cloudy morning will become a partly cloudy afternoon. High 654. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

A few overnight clouds with the slight chance of a little rain. Low 41. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

I don’t know, but checking the weather map in regards to that big April snow storm shaping up to the West, things are getting a tad dicey around my area. We seem to be right on the border of going from rain to a mixed mess to snow. I guess at this stage there’s nothing to do but keep an eye on things and be ready for whatever comes along.

On a perhaps positive note, I did hang out the Humming bird feeder this morning. It’s early but they’ve been seen in Pentwater already and I’m not about to let any of the weary little bundles of feathers go hungry should they get to my place. I’d rather waste a little hummingbird food and make more batches of it than take chances. I’m ready should any of them not be smart enough to stay the heck out of the north until it really does warm up – and stay warmed up.

Sunday, April 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Cloudy Morning, Rainy Evening

Sunday, April 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Cloudy Morning, Rainy Evening

Currently 55 with a SE wind of 8 mph making it feel like 53 degrees. Party cloudy morning will become a cloudy afternoon with a 60% chance of rain. High 68. SE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 60% chance of rain. Low 48. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Looking at that snow storm taking shape for sometime about Thursday and still hoping it all misses us. So far, so good. Still looks like we’ll be on the rain side of it. But it’s just sad that anywhere is looking at the chance for yet more heavy wet snow. It’s absolutely not right. It was a hard, destructive winter…lots of trees and parts of trees down this spring all over the place. A heavy wet snow bringing down more, as well as another weather related power outage is simply unfair. We’ll see how it goes. Things can change – and I’m hoping for those in the path of this coming storm system will bring them a change from what I see brewing right now.

Saturday, April 6, 2019 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Thin Could Cover

Saturday, April 6, 2019 South West Michigan – Morning Fog, Thin Could Cover

Currently 42 with a SSE wind of 1 mph. Feels like 42 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 94%, Barometer 30.20 & rising, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:15 am, Sunset 8:13 pm. Early fog. Cloudy 62 degrees. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight. Low 46. Light and variable winds.

The fog is lifting and the sky is covered with a thin layer of clouds. The sun is trying hard to shine through, but it’s not quite making it. Gotta give it credit for trying though. Sounds like some rain coming tomorrow. And I’m interested in seeing what’s coming about next Thursday. Looks to be a snow storm to the west of us and probably in the northern part of Michigan, but I’m hoping we get nothing but the rain part of that storm system. So far, it looks to be shaping up that way.

Friday, April 5, 2019-South West Michigan – Dreary Day Ahead

Friday, April 5, 2019-South West Michigan – Dreary Day Ahead

Currently 35 with an E wind of 8 mph making it feel like 28 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.14 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:17 am, Sunset 8:12 pm. Cloudy with a chance of morning showers. High 55. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 37. Light and variable winds.

Not a particularly pretty day, but then again, we’re so near the back end of winter that any day without snow should probably be considered a good one. So…this is a good one. Was hoping for a pleasant weekend, and we may see a dandy Saturday but Sunday is shaping up to be a rainy day. Not good for those who count on that day to tend to outdoor chores. I guess we’ll have to see how it goes.
