An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Saturday, May 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Trees Barely Leafing Out Yet

Currently 53 with an average calm wind. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 42, Dew Point 42, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.03 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:31 am, Sunset 8:46 pm. Partly cloudy with a high near 65. Light and variable winds.

Clear overnight skies. Low 43. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Our trees, like our flowers, seem to be a bit on the late side this year. Most trees are barely leafing out yet, and except for rare patches of daffodils and a few tiny wild flowers, still waiting for most of the blooms, too. Looking forward to living in a green, colorful world again. It’ll get here.

Friday, May 3, 2019-South West Michigan-Trees Beginning To Flower

Currently 45 with an average wind from the NE of 7 mph making it feel like 41 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 95%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:32 am, Sunset 8:45 pm. Areas of patchy fog, mostly cloudy. High 59. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy becoming partly cloudy overnight, low 42. Light and variable winds.

Gradually some of the flowering trees are beginning to show their talent to brighten up our world. Not all of them yet, but some. It’s a late Spring, but it’s getting there. The coming week appears – for now – to be mostly 60 degree days and 40 degree nights. Could be better but we sure as heck know by now that it could be worse, too. We’ll be happy with it. Rain or shine…and it does sound like more rain than shine, but still…

Thursday, May 2, 2019-South West Michigan-Foggy Morning, Rainy Afternoon

Thursday, May 2, 2019-South West Michigan-Foggy Morning, Rainy Afternoon

Currently 44 with an average wind from the E of 6 mph making it feel like 40 degrees. Dew Point 44, Humidity 99%, Barometer 30.16 & rising, Visibility 0.7 mi., Sunrise 6:34 am, Sunset 8:44 pm. Cloudy with morning for. 90% chance of afternoon rain. High 53. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

90% chance of overnight rain. Low 45. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Sort of a misty air thing going out there this morning with the fog. That mist should become solid rain eventually and that sounds as if it will keep up until tomorrow. Sure beats the – yeah, hard to imagine but – snow the UP is dealing with. This is the craziest weather year I can remember. A winter that refuses to turn loose and leave, flooding – monstrous flooding – going on all over the place, tornadoes spinning around…just Mother Nature spreading as much misery as possible. I’ll take our misty fog any time over the rest of it.

Wednesday, May 1, 2019-South West Michigan-We Have A Rainy Day

Currently 47 with an ESE wind of 9 mph currently making it feel like 43 degrees. Dew Point 47, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.85 & falling, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 6:35 am, Sunset 8:42 pm. 50% chance of rain. High 58 with a SW winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 43. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

It might say 50% chance of rain, but it’s been raining since I got up – lightly, but still – so I suspect we’ll end up with more than a 50% chance by end of day. Looks like a rainy one coming tomorrow, too but Friday, so far, seems to be shaping up dry. We’ll see.

Tuesday, April 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Mostly Looking At Rain Coming This Week

Tuesday, April 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Mostly Looking At Rain Coming This Week

Currently 41 with an average wind from the ENE of 10 mph making it feel like 35 degrees. Dew Point 39, Humidity 91%, Barometer 30.31 & rising, Sunrise 6:37 am, Sunset 8:42 pm. Cloudy with a 90% chance of rain. High around 50. E winds 10 -15 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Some local areas can expect heavy rainfall. Low 42. E winds 15 -25 mph.

A gloomy morning with the feel of rain on the way. At least it isn’t snow. I can’t believe they are getting snow off to the West. Is this miserable winter ever going to leave the country? It just seems impossible to think it keeps on keeping on in spite of what the calendar says. We are almost into the month of May. You know, the merry month of May where April showers were supposed to usher in May flowers? Not exactly going according to plan this time around. But, we have hope. Sooner or later Spring will…no, actually it’s becoming more like sooner or later Summer will be here. Dang! Another pseudo-Spring.

Monday, April 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Still Hint Of Snow Showing Up

Monday, April 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Still Hint Of Snow Showing Up

Currently 39 with an E wind of 14 mph making it feel like 31 degrees. Dew Point 28, Humidity 64%, Barometer 30.21 & falling, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 6:38 am, Sunset 8:40 pm. 100% chance of rain/snow mix this morning becoming all rain in the afternoon. High 44. ESE winds 10 -20mph.

Cloudy becoming partly cloudy after midnight. Low 36. ENE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Oh yes, the weather folk are still tossing around the snow word. For some reason they refuse to let it all go. I’m not going to look out the window this morning just in the outside chance a stray snowflake puts in an appearance. Rain I can cope with. Snow – no.

Sunday, April 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Mother Nature Fooled Us

Sunday, April 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Mother Nature Fooled Us

Currently 48 with a NE wind of 9 mph making it feel like 44 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 31%, Barometer 30.18 & rising, Visibility 10 mil, Sunrise 6:40 am, Sunset 8:39 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy today with a high of 57. ENE winds 10-15 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight with a slight chance of rain showers. Low 38. ESE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Well, okay…so we were told to expect snow overnight. Yeah, snow. Woke up figuring to be all depressed about the lousy unspring-like weather and Viola! Blue skies and sunshine. It’s almost as if Mother Nature decided to play an April Fools Day joke on us the last Sunday in April. Good going, Ma! So far today, it’s nothing but a glorious day. Those waking up to blue skies and sunshine continue, light wind…compared to what we were thinking we were going to have to endure, this is a marvelous day. Granted, rain coming the next 4 days or so, but that’s okay. For a nice Sunday, we’ll put up with that, and gladly.

Saturday, April 27, 2019-South West Michigan-The Miserable “S” Words Refuses To Leave

Currently 36 with an average wind from the NNW of 10 mph making it feel like 29 degrees. Dew Point 23, Humidity 59%, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:41 am, Sunset 8:38 pm. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 46. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

40% chance of rain with the possibility of snow showers mixing in. Low 30. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

No kidding – there’s a chance of snow. This has become the longest, most miserable winter ever. And it still lingers, LONG after it should have a total retreat from our picture. At the rate it’s going, next winter is going to be here before this last one leaves.

Friday, April 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Windy

Friday, April 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Windy

Temperature 53 with an average wind from the NW of 15 mph making it feel like 49 degrees. Dew Point 44, Humidity 70%, Barometer 29.63 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:42 am, Sunset 8:37 pm. Partly cloudy morning will become a mostly sunny afternoon with windy conditions. High 58. NW winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40.

Clear. Windy conditions continue. Low 31. NW winds 20 – 30 mph with higher gusts possible.

So, today the wind is with us to obviously blow away any trace of nice weather for awhile. Looking ahead it appears to have rain in our schedule pretty much every single day for the coming week. Plus, we can toss in the chance of some snow putting in an appearance on Saturday. Sure sounds like a whole lot of fun, doesn’t it?

Thursday, April 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Gradually Warming Up, Greening Up

Thursday, April 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Gradually Warming Up, Greening Up

Currently 60 with a SSE wind of 6 mph making it feel like 59 degrees. Dew Point 38, Humidity 45%, Barometer 29.82 & falling, Visibility 10 mil, Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:35 pm. Partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 69. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of overnight rain. Low 46. N winds 10 – 15 mph.

No Hummingbirds here yet, but my tiny backyard is full of the regular cast. Had a few Robins, but evidently there wasn’t all that much out there to tempt them to hang around. Haven’t seen them since that first week or so. I refuse to accept the Weather Channel folk reporting there is a slight chance of….gasp…some snow showing up again this coming Saturday. The insanity of this past winter that refuses to give up and go away is unacceptable. So I’m going to dwell on the fact that for the most part, it continues to warm up and tempt the summer birds and critters back into gracing our area. Will be excited to see my first little Hummingbird when it returns.
