An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, May 14, 2019-South West Michigan-A Welcome Sunny Day

Currently 55 with an average wind from the WNW of 7 mph making it feel like 53 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 47%, Barometer 30.04 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 8:57 pm. Sunny with a high of 66. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

Some overnight clouds, low 47. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

What a lovely day! Not overly warm, but comfortable with abundant sunshine. There doesn’t appear to be any massive systems swirling about overhead right now – not here, anyway. Calm air, that’s what we like. Right now the Jet Stream is being kind to my area.  There is a line of rainy weather sliding toward us across the west, but it won’t get here today, so this is one to get out and about and enjoy. Which I shall! Later in the week might be another story.

Monday, May 13, 2019-South West Michigan- Brief Clear Up Before Week Of Rain

Monday, May 13, 2019-South West Michigan- Brief Clear Up Before Week Of Rain

Currently 50 with an average wind from the NNE of 10 mph making it feel like 46 degrees. Dew Point 39, Humidity 65%, Barometer 29.89 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:20 am, Sunset 8:56 pm. Mainly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 56. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy evening to clearing overnight skies. Low 38. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Should be nice today, tonight, maybe tomorrow. But the rest of the week looks to be soggy one shaping up. Guess it’s best to get out and get busy with outside stuff early on and plan on inside stuff the rest of the time. Anyway, that’s my plan.

Sunday, May 12, 2019-South West Michigan- Happy Mother’s Day To All Moms

Sunday, May 12, 2019-South West Michigan- Happy Mother’s Day To All Moms

Currently 52 with an average wind from the NE of 9 mph making it feel like 37 degrees. Humidity 57%, Barometer 29.89& falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 8:55 pm. Cloudy with a slight chance of rain today. High 54. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Low 42. NNE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Not a super great day of weather for Mother’s Day but then again, so far it isn’t raining…and it  isn’t snowing, which this year could easily have happened. All in all a decent, light jacket day. No sunshine is going to brighten the day, but so many Happy Mother’s Day greetings all over the place will make it cheery enough.

Shopping in a card shop with people lined up looking through the greeting cards, a little guy, maybe 3ish, in a cart telling his dad to “Just pick one that says To Mommy.” Cutting to the chase there, little dude. Well done.

In another store and a father with a couple of kids in tow, telling them, “Yeah, that’s nice. But remember, we’re not here for you today. We’re looking for something for Mom.” I think I heard him tell them several times, and they always ended up putting back the fascinating thing that had caught their eye and spending the next few minutes looking for something that would catch Mom’s eye :>)

Saturday, May 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Cloudy, Chance Of Afternoon Rain

Saturday, May 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Cloudy, Chance Of Afternoon Rain

Currently 47 with an average wind from the E of 10 mph making it feel like 43 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 63%, Barometer 30.18, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:22 am, Sunset 8:54 pm. Partly cloudy morning with a cloudy afternoon with a 40% chance of rain. High around 55. E winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a low of 39. ENE winds 5 -10 mph.

I know the forecast is saying partly cloudy this morning, but unfortunately the sunny part never had put in an appearance. Doubt it will. So basically what we have today is a cloudy one. With probably rain. Oh well…could be worse. And anything over 50 degrees, at this point, is great.

Friday, May 10, 2019 South West Michigan-Frost Warning Out For Us

Friday, May 10, 2019 South West Michigan-Frost Warning Out For Us

Currently 42 with a W wind of 12 mph making it feel like 36 degrees. Dew Point 34, Humidity 71%, Barometer 30.03 and rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:24 am, Sunset 8:53 pm. Cloudy becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 54. NW winds 10-20 mph.

A few passing overnight clouds. Low 37. NW winds shifting to ENE 10 – 15 mph.

Chilly out there this morning and going to be more so overnight. I’m sure that most of the growing things are hearty enough to withstand the attack. I doubt that anyone around here, not this spring anyway, has bothered to put anything out that’s in any way fragile. Been a rotten spring so far, so pretty much everyone is expecting that to continue for awhile yet. We’ll see. But we sure could use a good, steady warm up here.

Thursday, May 9, 2019-South West Michigan-Chilly Rain Falling

Thursday, May 9, 2019-South West Michigan-Chilly Rain Falling

Currently 50 with an average wind from the ESE of 5 mph making it feel like 48 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.66 & falling, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 6:25 am, Sunset 8:52 pm. Showers early with a cloudy afternoon. High  around 70. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy overnight. Low 41. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Fairly steady rain this morning with tomorrow and Saturday looking to be pleasant and sunny as a reward. Mother’s Day Sunday holds out a chance of more rain, but who knows? Our weather changes so rapidly by then we could be looking at another nice day. We’ll hope so. In the meantime, the little green buds need rain to help them decide to become grown up leaves.

Wednesday, May 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain On The Way

Wednesday, May 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain On The Way

Currently 48 with an E wind of 18 mph making it feel like 42 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 48%, Barometer 30.26 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:26 am, Sunset 8:50 pm. Partly cloudy morning, overcast afternoon. High 61. E winds 15 – 25 mph.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of rain. Low 52. ESE winds 15-25 mph.

Sounds like rain tonight and tomorrow. Today might be okay. So far, so good. Of course, it’s tomorrow when I have all the chasing around to be done. Figures. Little flowers beginning to grow here and there. Nice to see the colors showing up.

Tuesday, May 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Should Thin This Afternoon

Tuesday, May 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Should Thin This Afternoon

Currently 44 with an ENE wind of 11 mph making it feel like 38 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 64%, Barometer 30.28 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:27 am, Sunset 8:49 pm. Mostly cloudy morning will become a partly cloudy afternoon. High around 60. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy overnight, low around 40. E winds 10 -15 mph.

It’s a rather gloomy looking sky this morning but that’s offset a bit by the light greening of the tree leaves beginning to look more spring-like every day. It’s going to happen like it always seems to, one morning we’ll wake up and it will suddenly be a green world, as if it happened overnight. There is nothing like the green of Michigan when it finally settles in. So many shades of green. It warms my heart and helps fade the memories of the drabness of winter.

Monday, May 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain In Forecast But So Far A Lovely Morning

Monday, May 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain In Forecast But So Far A Lovely Morning

Currently 61 with a SW wind of 7 mph making it feel like 60 degrees. Dew Point 52, Humidity 74%, Barometer 29.97 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:28 am, Sunset 8:48 pm. Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers. High 67. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight rain showers. Low 42. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

It is starting to cloud up a bit more but still a thin, determined amount of sunlight is trying to brighten our world. Since tomorrow sounds like a fairly nice day shaping up, a bit of rain today and tonight might not be a bad thing. I guess we need a little of everything to help green up the landscape.

Sunday, May 5, 2019-South West Michigan-Amazingly Second Nice Sunday In A Row

Sunday, May 5, 2019-South West Michigan-Amazingly Second Nice Sunday In A Row

Currently 66 with a WSW wind of 9 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 44, Humidity 44%, Barometer 29.87 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:30 am, Sunset 8:47 pm. A mix of sun and clouds with a slight chance of afternoon rain showers. High 69. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight with a low near 50. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

It’s almost impossible to believe, but here we are, actually in the second pleasant Sunday in a row. A rare and wonderful thing. Sounds like a mess of rain tomorrow, but hey…if we can get through most of today allowing outside chores to be done, we’ll take it, and happy to.

Little spots of yellow are starting to burst forth everywhere right now. Dandelions are in full bloom and for those of us who find them charming, it’s great so see the bright color. I’m one of those.
