An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, May 24, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 55 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 84%, Barometer 30.17 & rising, Visibility 2.1 mi., Sunrise 6:11 am, Sunset 9:08 pm. Cloudy with a 100% chance of rain, afternoon thunderstorms. High 68. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain/thunderstorms. Low 64. SE winds 10 -15 mph becoming S 5 – 10 mph.

Looks like a pretty much rainy weekend. Matter of fact, it looks as if the entire coming week holds daily rain. I reckon it’s going to be a good time to plan inside activities, tend to indoor chores. At least we’re only looking at rain and not the tornado activity taking place in the south. At least for now, that’s what it looks like.

Thursday, May 23, 2019-South West Michigan – Fortunate To Have Calm Weather

Thursday, May 23, 2019-South West Michigan – Fortunate To Have Calm Weather

Currently 64 with an average wind from the W of 14 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 58, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.50 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:12 am, Sunset 9:07 pm. Mix of sun and clouds today with a gusty wind. W 20-30 mph. High 69.

Mostly clear overnight with a NW wind of 10-20 mph. Low 52.

Except for a bit of a wind blowing things around today and tonight, we’re very fortunate. The folks in Missouri not so much. What a tragic sight to see that tornado damage.

Had a strong thunderstorm go through around 3 -4 this morning. A weird one. The rain came in actual stripes. Rain, then none, then rain, then none. I don’t ever recall a storm as structured as that one. Some impressive thunder and lightening acted as accents to the bizarre rain pattern. But…except for the strangeness of it, no damage around here. Like I said, we’re feeling very fortunate.

Wednesday, May 22, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Morning, Maybe Some Afternoon Sun

Wednesday, May 22, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Morning, Maybe Some Afternoon Sun

Currently 51 with an average wind from the ESE of 13 mph making it feel like 47 degrees. Dew Point 47, Humidity 86%, Barometer 29.96 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:06 pm. 90% chance of morning rain. Thunder is possible. The afternoon will offer a few peeks at the sun. High around 80. SSE winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Variable winds 8 – 10 mph. Low 67.

It most certainly looks as if any parting of the clouds today is unlikely. Heavy overcast, off and on rain. If the sun puts in an appearance at any time today, I’ll be surprised. Pleasantly surprised.

Rather on the bland side in my little back yard but not so in other parts of our nation. So much severe weather going on! Flooding, tornadoes…it’s an ugly, miserable time for so many people. And still watching the disaster left in the Midwest from the horrendous flooding that will likely leave us short of fresh food and paying plenty for what we get this year. Farmers unable to plant leaves consumers on the short end of the supply chain. Not good. Call it what you will, but the extreme weather over the recent years seems to be escalating. And that’s not a good thing.

Tuesday, May 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Today, Rain Tonight

Tuesday, May 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Today, Rain Tonight

Currently 51 with an average wind from the E of 8 mph making it feel like 48 degrees. Dew Point 39, Humidity 63%, Barometer 30.15, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:05 pm. A morning mix of sun and clouds will becoming all clouds in the afternoon. High 64. ESE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Overnight clouds, low 54. Windy. E winds 7-17 mph.

Nothing much going on here. The severe weather that passed through Michigan missed my area entirely leaving only the chilly weather behind. Watching the results of tornado activity, flooding in the Oklahoma, Texas areas. My hat is off to the First Responders, the people who put themselves in harm’s way to rescue others. These are special people. Some of the best for sure. (Just as an aside, compare the value of folks like this to the fools doing nothing more with their lives than wandering around in bunches waving moronic placards, protesting usually with violence, ignorance and foul language. What a difference in use of life.)

Monday, May 20, 2019-SouthWest Michigan-Cloudy And Cool This Morning

Monday, May 20, 2019-SouthWest Michigan-Cloudy And Cool This Morning

Temperature 46 with an average wind from the W of 5 mph making it feel like 41 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.89 & rising, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:03 pm. Partly cloudy becoming mostly sunny with a high in the mid 50s. N winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low upper 30s. N winds around 10 mph.

Cool weather again. I don’t think, at the rate things are going this spring, that I’m ever going to turn off my heat. Seriously. I can’t remember having it on this late in the season before this, but it sure as heck is on this time around.

Still watching rough tornado weather down around Texas and Oklahoma.  They can’t seem to catch a break with rounds of bad weather continuing to travel through, bringing destruction along with them. The video’s rolling on TV from the tornadoes in the Midwest are wicked! Busy tornado season for sure.

Sunday, May 19, 2019-South West Michigan- Cloudy And Humid Sunday

Sunday, May 19, 2019-South West Michigan- Cloudy And Humid Sunday

Currently 65 with an average wind from the S of 12 mph. Feels like 654 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.64 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:14 am, Sunset 9:03pm. Partly cloudy with a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. High 72. SSW winds 15-25 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy with a slight chance of rain. Low 44. WSW winds 15 – 25 mph.

Had morning rain which left the air rather humid. Not raining now so for those who want to be out and about today they may get off and on chances to do so. It does feel like more rain is in the wind or the air, or whatever.  The next few days sound like they’ll be great with more rain coming around mid-week. Much luckier than the south of our nation, which has been dealing with rough weather for days now. Lots of tornado damage, which is heartbreaking.

Saturday, May 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Watching Bad Weather Hit Texas This Morning

Saturday, May 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Watching Bad Weather Hit Texas This Morning

Currently 51 with an average Wind from the ESE of 12 mph making it feel like 47 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.92 & falling, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:15 am, Sunset 9:01 pm. Cloudy with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. High 78. SSE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low 64. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Supposed to get as high as around 80 today, but right at the moment, it feels chilly and damp. I guess I’ll be surprised if it warms up as much as predicted. Will be nice if it does, but…

In the meantime, watching the Weather Channel and keeping an eye on the ugly, dangerous weather plowing through Texas this morning. Not good. It had looks as if lines of storms were gearing up for that area and so it seems, they are. Hoping for the best for the folk down that way.

Friday, May 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Bits & Pieces Of Morning Sun, Gobs Of Afternoon Clouds

Friday, May 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Bits & Pieces Of Morning Sun, Gobs Of Afternoon Clouds

Currently 56 with an average wind from the NNE of 10 mph making it feel like 53 degrees. Dew Point 41, Humidity 58%, Barometer 29.88 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:00 pm. Morning mix of sun and clouds will become a cloudy afternoon. High 67. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

70% chance of overnight scattered showers and thunderstorms. Gusty winds and small hail possible. Low 49. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

Seems like a round of hefty stormy weather is bearing down on my area. Even so, we can’t complain all that much. The middle and southern tier of our nation has been battling bad weather for what seems like forever. I have a friend in Shreveport. LA who has had to invest in some sand bags to protect her back yard…first time in the 15 years since I’ve known her. The rain just keeps on keeping on. So if anything does come around here, if we do end up with a stormy weekend, we are certainly due for our share.

Thursday, May 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain On The Way

Thursday, May 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain On The Way

Currently 64 with an average wind from the SSW of around 9 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 61%, Barometer 29.85 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:17 am, Sunset 8:59 pm. Partly cloudy with an 80% chance of  thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. High 74. SW winds 15 -25 mph.

80% chance of thunderstorms early on becoming cloudy skies after midnight. Low 49. WSW winds shifting to N 10 -20 mph.

Dry right now but later on today, not so much. Sunday sounds like another stormy day and then about next Tuesday another round of rain comes through.  Best I can say is it finally isn’t round after round of snow or freezing rain as was so recently our weather. We’ll take the rain…just plain rain.

Wednesday, May 15, 2019-South West Michigan – Nice Today Leading To Rain Tomorrow

Wednesday, May 15, 2019-South West Michigan – Nice Today Leading To Rain Tomorrow

Currently 63 with a W winds of 9 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 45, Humidity 50%, Barometer 29.95, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 8:58 pm. A mix of sun and clouds today with a slight chance of rain. High 69. W winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear becoming cloudy after midnight. Low 46. WNW winds shifting to E 10-15 mph.

A great day going so far. Comfortable temperature, very little wind blowing. Should be a pleasant day leading right up to tomorrow’s pretty good chance for rain. Trees leafing out more every day, a few flowers showing up. Spring seems determined this time to stick around.
