An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, June 3, 2019-South West Michigan – Plenty Of Sunshine Today

Currently 56 with a calm SE wind. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 40%, Barometer 30.17 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:16 pm. Lots of sunshine today with a high around 68. NW winds 5 – 10mph.

A few passing clouds, otherwise clear overnight. Low 52. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

After a pleasant Sunday with few puffy clouds floating by, we have a nicely cleared out sky allowing nothing but sunshine for us to start our week. Won’t warm up all that much, but it will be comfortable and clear. Pretty good beginning for the next week with a chance of rain coming our way Tuesday and Wednesday. Our cool weather continues. Spring here was cold and wet. Not a good one by any means and so far, we haven’t  really warmed up to where we should be by this time. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how the rest of summer lays out for us.

Sunday, June 2, 2019-South West Michigan-After An Evening Of Bad Storms

Sunday, June 2, 2019-South West Michigan-After An Evening Of Bad Storms

Currently 54 with  an average wind of 4 mph from the N. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 49, Humidity 84%, Barometer 29.87 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:15 pm. Partly cloudy, high 68. NW winds 10 -20 mph.

Mostly clear tonight. Low around 40. NW winds 10 mph.

Had some rough weather move through last evening. The sky turned as black as night there for awhile and it did rain pretty hard for a bit. Not as bad though as the sky looked like it was intending for us. I think we, again, lucked out. Nothing like that on the agenda for today, thank goodness. We should even seen the sun once in awhile. A nice Sunday full of decent weather. Can’t ask for more than that.

Saturday, June 1, 2019-South West Michigan- Rainy First Day Of June

Saturday, June 1, 2019-South West Michigan- Rainy First Day Of June

Currently 66 with an average wind from the W of 6 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 61, Humidity 84%, Barometer 29.79 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:06 am, Sunset 9:15 pm. Mostly cloudy early with a 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms. Some storms may be severe. High around 75. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

60% chance of rain with a slight chance of thunderstorms early then partly cloudy overnight. Low around 50. N W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not a bad morning following a rousing thunderstorm that traveled through the area around 3:00 this morning. Plenty of wind and rain. Still feeling like rain this morning so it won’t be surprising to see that weather repeat itself this afternoon.

Watching the Weather Channel begin their Hurricane Season preparedness and it seems so unfair that yes, indeed, we’re heading in a time of new peril all the while dealing with the tornadoes and flooding that is still ongoing from the last batch of seasonal misery. Fingers crossed that this year’s hurricane season will be kind and not get crazy for people still dealing with the results of last year’s disasters.

Friday, May 31, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Visible Sun Today

Friday, May 31, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Visible Sun Today

Currently 64 with a SSW wind of 7 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 78%, Barometer 29.85, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:06 am, Sunset 9:14 pm. Partly cloudy with a chance of showers or thunderstorms. High near 80. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of late night showers and thunderstorms. Low upper 50s. W winds 5 -15 mph.

Hard to believe this is the last day of May. It’s been a weird un-spring like spring around here. And suddenly we’re all green and heading into summer. At least we’ve been spared the dreadful weather other parts of the country have – and still are – dealing with. Storms, tornadoes, flooding – the massive amounts of flooding is heartbreaking. Having experienced flooding, I know it’s not just the immediate danger, having to leave most everything behind, but it’s the horrible after-math, the clean-up that’s sometimes impossible to surmount. Like I said, heart-breaking.

Thursday, May 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Weather For Us

Thursday, May 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Weather For Us

Currently 60 with a WNW wind of 7 mph. Feels like 59. Dew Point 57, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.73, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:13 pm. 100% chance of rain. Thunder possible. High 71, W winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Mostly clear. Low in the lower 50s. NW winds becoming light.

Rainy this morning. I did hear some thunder rolling before I got up but since then, it’s been a light rain with no theatrics from Mother Nature. It’s not overly warm out there but it could be worse. And worse is what’s been going on in other parts of our nation. So many tornadoes, so much flooding. It’s tragic for so many folks.

Wednesday, May 29, 2019-SouthWest Michigan-Dreary, Cloudy, Slight Chance Of Rain

Wednesday, May 29, 2019-SouthWest Michigan-Dreary, Cloudy, Slight Chance Of Rain

Currently 57 with an average wind from the E of 6 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.75 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:08 am, Sunset 9:12 pm.  Currently cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. High in the mid 60s. E wind of round 5 mph becoming W.

40% chance of overnight rain. Low in the lower 50s. Light winds.

Not a pleasant day outside this morning, but could be a whole lot worse. Just one of those blah days. Sorry to see more deadly tornado damage done to the states south of us. Ohio got hit bad with this lot. It seems that the hot weather in the south is far too busy brewing up stormy weather for everyone to, unfortunately,  have to endure. Tornadoes, hail, flooding, severe thunderstorms strung out all over the place. Not good. Makes our blah days lately not very important worthy of complaining about.

Tuesday, May 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Lucky Just To Have Rain

Tuesday, May 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Lucky Just To Have Rain

Currently 61 with a W wind of 10 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 58, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.67 & rising, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 6:08 am, Sunset 9:11 pm. Morning fog. Cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. High 64. WNW winds 5 – 10 with gusts to 20.

70% chance of overnight rain. Low in the lower 50s. NE winds around 5 mph becoming E.

Cloudy and looking like rain today. More deadly tornadoes in the states to the south of us. Just a wicked spate of ugly weather lately leaving damage and death behind. This bad weather is dangerous enough in daylight hours, but they storms have been striking in the night, which finds too many people unaware and unprepared. My heart goes out to all involved.

Monday, May 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Take Time To Observe Memorial Day Today

Monday, May 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Take Time To Observe Memorial Day Today

Currently 60 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph making it feel like 59 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 82%, Barometer 30.06 & falling, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:09 am, Sunset 9:10 pm. Cloudy with a 60% chance of rain. High 76. SE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy with a 100% chance of rain. Thunder possible. Low 58. SE winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

It’s a chilly morning but there is hope it will warm up a bit as the progresses. Of course the chance for rain increases as the day goes along, too. Not a spectacular weather day for Memorial Day, but at least we’re not dealing with the deadly tornadoes happening elsewhere.

I hope everyone does take some time today to honor the memory or all those who have given their all so that we might enjoy the freedoms we have in this country of ours. In spite of those doing their worst to take those freedoms away, so far we’ve hung on to them all and if we’re lucky – and smart – we’ll continue to do that so those who gave their lives won’t have given them in vain.

Sunday, May 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Gloomy Sky, Misty Morning

Sunday, May 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Gloomy Sky, Misty Morning

Currently 64 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 56, Humidity 77%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:09 am, Sunset 9:09 pm. 40%  chance of morning rain, afternoon clouds. High 73. WSW winds 5- 10 mph.

Partly cloudy, low mid 50. Light winds.

A gloomy morning with a gloomy sky. Misty rain off and on – and it feels rather chilly. Do you know, I still have my heat on. Yes. I do. Can’t remember having it on this late before. Granted my high is set at 70 for daylight hours and 65 for night time hours. But once in awhile it does click on. (I hate being cold more than about anything). My son’s pool isn’t uncovered and done yet and usually it’s up and running long before this, when the spring trees are in bloom. The trees around his pool have bloomed and gone and it’s still to chilly to uncover the pool. What a lousy spring.

Saturday, May 25, 2019-SouthWest Michigan – Night Storm Lit Up The Sky

Saturday, May 25, 2019-SouthWest Michigan – Night Storm Lit Up The Sky

Currently 73 with an average wind from the WSW of 14 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 76%, Barometer 29.86, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:08 pm. Cloudy with a 70% chance of thunderstorms until around midday, then partly sunny with a small chance of rain. High in the mid 70s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy tonight with a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms moving in. Low around 60. SW winds 5 – 15 mph becoming NW overnight.

Last night we had a whopping thunderstorm that seemed to last for about ever. Constant thunder rolling and lightening without end. Looked like Nature was putting on the ultimate sky show. Now, of course, there are area flood advisory statements in place, as is usual when we get a great deal of rain all at once. Evidently was an inch or two last night. Looks like we might get a bit more of the stormy stuff today and tonight, but I’d say Mother Nature would have to go some to equal last night’s display.
