An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, June 13, 2019-South West Michigan-Not A Pleasant Day

Currently 56 with an average wind from the NNW of 6 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 54, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.71 & rising, Visibility 2.5 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:22 pm. 100% chance of rain. High near 60. NNW winds 15-25 with higher gusts possible.

Partly cloudy tonight, low 48. W winds 10 -20 mph decreasing to 5 – 10 mph.

An interesting rain during the early morning hours. No wind, lightening, thunder, just a steady, droning downpour that lasted for what seemed like hours. It got downright irritating, listening to it. There was no let-up, no relief from the sound. I usually love it when it rains, but not that one. It was as if someone turned the tap on, left, and there was no way to shut it off.

This morning it’s just a light off and on – mostly on – rain. And the wind is supposed to kick in. Much cooler than we would like it to be this time of year, so there isn’t much about today’s weather to like.

Wednesday, June 12, 2019-South West Michigan-Chilly And Damp

Currently 66 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 45, Humidity 59%, Barometer 29.98 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm. Mostly cloudy morning with a 40% chance of rain/thundershowers in the afternoon. High 74. SW winds 10 -15 mph.

90% chance of overnight rain/thundershowers. Low 54. N winds 5 – 10mph.

Cold front swooping along supposedly bringing cooler, dryer air – cooler maybe here, but not dryer. Except for the possibility of Friday and Monday, it looks as if we’re going to be rained on every single day. Getting a tad tiresome.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019-South West Michigan – Interesting Weather Pattern Shaping Up

Currently 63 with an average wind from the WSW of 6 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 63%, Barometer 30.18 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:21 pm. Partly cloudy with a high of 78. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming cloudy. Low 58. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Sunny today followed by a couple of rainy days, then a sunny one, followed by another couple of rainy ones. Guess it means crowding in all the outdoor stuff on the good ones and planning lots of inside activities on the rest. Would rather have a solid handful of bright ones coming our way, but then we rarely get a chance to make our own arrangements.

Monday, June 10, 2019-South West Michigan-A Mostly Rainy Week Taking Shape

Monday, June 10, 2019-South West Michigan-A Mostly Rainy Week Taking Shape

Currently 62 with an average wind from the NW of 13 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 89%, Barometer 29.94 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:21 pm. Cloudy with early morning showers becoming a partially cloudy afternoon. High around 68. NW winds 15 – 25 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 49. W winds 10 -20 mph decreasing to 5 mph.

Except for a day or two that right now promises to be rain free, most of the coming week – right on through the next weekend look to be wet and dreary. Dang. I know it’s early on but so far our summer is tending to go along with the spring we almost had. On the cool side and wet. I sure do hate to see this pattern continue  through what should be an enjoyable outdoor season. I reckon we’ll see how it goes as it goes along.

Sunday, June 9, 2019-South West Michigan-A Rainy Sunday For Us

Sunday, June 9, 2019-South West Michigan-A Rainy Sunday For Us

Currently 63 with an average wind from the E of around 8 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 56, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:20 pm. 80% chance of rain. Thunder possible. High 73. ESE winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy with an 80% chance of overnight rain. Low 61. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

NOAA shows great blotches of green gaining on us which is apparently more rain taking aim at our area for the day. The rain is welcome here for the most part – unlike so many places around our country dealing with way too much of the stuff – but it’s a shame it’s falling on a Sunday. So many folks have pretty much only Sunday to get out and about so for rain to cloud the issue…well, not so much welcome for them. Me? I’m going to be out helping someone move today. Just all sorts of fun in the rain, right? Yeah…thanks, Mother Nature. You’re such a good sport.

Saturday, June 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun To Clouds For Us Today

Saturday, June 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun To Clouds For Us Today

Currently 71 with an average wind from the E of 10 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 47%, Barometer 30.08 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9;20 pm. Some morning sun with increasing cloudiness for the afternoon. High 84. E winds 10 – 20 mph.

Overnight clouds with a 60% chance of rain. Low 62. W winds 10 -25 mph.

Chance of rain for us tomorrow and Monday but we sure aren’t looking for or expecting any of the severe stuff going on elsewhere. And so much of it! We really are lucky here in that we miss so much of the bad stuff.

Opened the kitchen blinds this morning to find a pair of bunnies, a chipmunk, a squirrel and a hummingbird in my little backyard. A busy place at breakfast time as they all took advantage of the clear weather this morning to dine out at Murphy’s feeder station. Gotta love it!

Friday, June 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Not A Cloud In Sight

Friday, June 7, 2019-South West Michigan-Not A Cloud In Sight

Currently 73 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 61, Humidity 64%, Barometer 30.00 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:19 pm. Nothing but sunshine today. High 83. E winds 10 -15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 56. ENE winds 10 -15 mph.

A lovely high pressure system sits nicely overhead, leaving us nothing but splendid weather. Down south, however, is entirely different. I saw that Baton Rouge had a 9″ rainfall yesterday in a few hours. Massive flooding. SO much flooding going on everywhere. It’s crazy! And extremely sad for those going through the misery. If we only had the power to even it all out, relieve the drought areas, give a break to the flooded places. Maybe in our imaginations, but not nature’s way to be fair. But I can’t help thinking that later on in the summer, there will be places pleading for some of that precipitation. Just unfair.

Thursday, June 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Decent Weather Pattern For Us

Thursday, June 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Decent Weather Pattern For Us

Currently 66 with an E wind of 5 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 60, Humidity 82%, Barometer 29.91 & rising, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:18 pm. Mostly cloudy today with a high around 77. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy tonight. Low 56. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

No rain for us for a few days and only, right now anyway, a very small chance for Sunday. It’s lovely finally having windows open all night long with fresh air wandering around in here. I love it. My cat loves it.

I am seeing more tornado dangers going on in the south this morning. Can’t believe how many tornadoes there have been so far this year. So much rain, so many storms, so much flooding. It’s difficult to enjoy the late spring, early summer days when you have to duck and cover almost every day from wicked weather.

Wednesday, June 5, 2019-South West Michigan-Skies To Partially Clear Up Later

Wednesday, June 5, 2019-South West Michigan-Skies To Partially Clear Up Later

Currently 69 with an average wind from the WSW of 11 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 86%, Humidity 86%, Barometer 29.69, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.  Cloudy with a stray shower or thunderstorm in the morning with a partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. High 76. W winds 10 -20 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 56. NNE winds 10 -15 mph.

Very much overcast this morning but looking forward to a few breaks in those clouds later on today.  The next few days look like winners with rain coming our way around Sunday again. Maybe Monday too. For today I’m feeling sure that the rain has finished. We did have a pretty heavy rain in the early morning hours, which sounded nice while laying in bed. It had cleared out before time to climb out of the comfort and begin the day. Doubt any more precipitation will visit us this morning.

Tuesday, June 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Blue Sky Showing

Tuesday, June 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Blue Sky Showing

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SSW of 9 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 48, Humidity 53%, Barometer 30.03 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:17 pm. Partly cloudy morning with a 30% chance of afternoon rain. High 72. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 63. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

A lovely morning going on. The air is crisp and clean feeling. The sky is showing enough sun to make for happy thoughts. It’s going to be a good day, even if there is a small chance of some rain moving in later. Might. Or might not. We’ll see how it goes. In the meantime, the morning is a winner.
