An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Sunday, July 19, 2020-SW Michigan-Gloomy Start To The Day

Currently 79 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 73, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 79%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:20am, Sunset 9:16 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the mid 80s. W winds 15 -20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the mid 60s. W winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

We had a slight risk of severe weather overnight but if we got any rain, it was miniscule and heard no wind to speak of so I’m assuming it all went to the north of us again. This morning there are a few rumbles of thunder and a few sprinkles so we may yet get a bit of rain before the supposed clearing this afternoon. Rain or no rain, it’s very gloomy and dark out there right now, so it might as well go ahead and rain on us – get it over and be gone. The coming week looks – for the moment, anyway- as if the temperatures are mostly in the 80s with rain pretty much all week. We know how that goes though, so we’ll wait and see.

Saturday, July 18, 2020-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Over Night Storms

Currently 81 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 85 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Mostly sunny. High in the lower 90s. SW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 30. Heat index to 101-106.

70% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 70s. SW winds 10 -15.

Seems things are perhaps going to become a big unstable later this afternoon and overnight, leaving us with a Marginal Severe Storm Risk from this afternoon through 8:00 tomorrow morning. Could get damaging t-storms, hail and a few tornadoes. But it does sound as if it will all end up to the north of us. Would be nice to get rain, not so nice if we get any of the rest of it.  Doesn’t seem likely but you never know.

So far today, it’s warm but not uncomfortable. No A/C on yet. But if, indeed, things heat up to the lower 90s, for certain sure I’ll end up with it on later today.

A fantastic day in store. Sunshine, perfect summer temperatures. Doesn’t get any better than this. Perhaps some rain coming in on Sunday, but with the way out weather changes so often, maybe not. In the meantime a couple of fine Summer days.

Thursday, July 16, 2020-SW Michigan-Finally Got Predicted Rain

Mostly clear with a low in the lower 60s. W winds 5 – 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Trying to keep track of rain predictions lately have reminded me of the old carnival shell game…the carnie puts a pea under a shell, shuffles it around with a couple of other ones and someone gets to guess where the pea finally lands. Sort of the same way here…going to rain this day, no, this day…nope out of the picture…rain back for today, oops…tomorrow. Well, we finally did get some overnight rain. Not a lot but enough to leave some puddles and gloom behind.

Yesterday’s clouds rolled in looking promising, but as clouds will, continued to roll on out of here taking our hope for rain with them. Thankfully a new batch paid us a visit during the night and managed to leave evidence behind. Could get more this morning but I wouldn’t be betting the ranch on that. Just happy we got any at all.

Getting to be interesting attempting to track when rain will or will not show up. Several days ago today was scheduled to have rain. Yesterday none. Today it’s back in the picture. I guess we’ll have to wait until sometime tomorrow morning to find out what we did or didn’t get as far as precipitation.  This morning they’ve even tossed in a slight chance of sever weather. Again, have to wait and see.

Today and the next couple of days should be delightful. The rain has been removed until the coming weekend. That period of time appears to be a hot, maybe rainy one, but we’ll see. Things can change radically before then. By then we’ll be in need of some rain, so although it will be the weekend, perhaps we’ll  welcome it, weekend or not. In the meantime, some lovely days to enjoy.

Monday, July 13, 2020-SW Michigan-Pleasant Couple Of Days Ahead

Sunny with a high in the lower 80s. Light winds.

Today and tomorrow should be about perfect. Maybe some rain coming though on Wednesday. Great weather with relatively low humidity makes this a fine time to be outdoors tending to any yard work needing attention. I guess if I tried hard enough I could come up with a few things. Maybe. Or maybe I’ll just sit out in the glider and read. Simply enjoy the fine day. Perhaps a flip of a coin? I don’t know but I do know this weather would be hard to improve on.

This is perfect weather. Nice sleeping at night, comfortable daytime. Wish it could stay just like this. Looks like we do have a few days of rain sprinkled in and around the coming week and the temperature might be back up to around 90 by next Saturday. But all in all, it looks like a splendid week approaching.

Our temperatures are feeling wonderful after that long stretch of 90 degree days. And I don’t see any 90 degree days coming up in the near future. Building back up into the 80s, but hey…that’s what we can expect. It’s summer. It’s just so comfortable having summer weather we can enjoy without being sealed up in an A/C house. Everybody out and enjoy the day! Just exactly what we all plan to do.

Had a marvelous rain yesterday around 3:00 in the afternoon. Better than an hour of good steady rain, plenty of thunder. Then again about 4:00 this morning it rained again. We were in such need of moisture that as much as we got, most soaked right in. Hoping for more today. And although it is humid, the temperature dropped considerably, at least for the time being. Will rise back up next week, but I’m not seeing any 90 degree days in the coming week. That’s a very good thing. And in the meantime, not so dry and not so hot.
