An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

We have a couple of days holding out an opportunity for some rain. Nobody is holding their breath, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. We very much need the rain. Everything is drying and browning up.

Wednesday, July 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Small Possibility Of Rain

Currently 85 degrees with an average wind from the NW of 1 mph. Feels like 89 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 30., Humidity 58%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:11 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

There is now a small chance of some rain over the next three days. Not a great chance, but some. We could most certainly use it. So hope is high. In addition, the temperature might dip down as low as 80 by Sunday. Of course, it appears to be heading right back up, but a little relief would certainly be welcome.

Tuesday, July 7, 2020-SW Michigan-Sweltering Weather Continues

Currently 87 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 90 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 30.02 & falling, Humidity 52%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:24 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the low 90s. W winds 5 – 15 mph. Heat index up to 96 degrees.

Partly cloudy. Low in the upper 60s. W winds around 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Peering ahead, it does look as if – for the moment, anyway – there is a 50% chance of rain coming in around Friday, dropping out temperatures down into the low 80s. At least for awhile. Since this is only Tuesday, there is a wide margin for error there and we all know how quickly the forecasts can be changed by various and sundry reasons. We are still nestled under that extreme heat dome and I know, since this is only 10:30 in the morning with the temperature already advancing toward 90, this is not the Michigan weather we’re used to. Fingers crossed for that rain to actually make it to us by week’s end. We shall see.

Monday, July 6, 2020-SW Michigan-Another Hot Week Ahead

Our steaming Summer weather continues. Un-Michigan. Very hot. If we’re lucky we might see a very small chance for some rain about mid-week, and perhaps some days in the 80s. Or…maybe not. All we know for sure is that our weather is continuing to be unusually warm.

Sunday, July 5, 2020-SW Michigan-Amazingly Hot Stretch Of Weather

Currently 88 with an average wind from the ENE of 3 mph. Feels like 88 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Humidity 41%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:09 am, Sunset 9:24 pm.

Can not get over this long stretch of 90 degree days in Michigan. This is so far out of the norm as to be astonishing. And there really doesn’t look to be an end in sight. Most unusual summer for this state. The ‘cold front’ that was supposed to have given us a day or two of half-way relief seems to have died a premature death. Oh, yeah…we could dip down into the upper 80s for a few days, but that isn’t what you’d call relief under any circumstances. I think for many unhappy reasons this will be a summer we won’t soon forget and this weather is going to help make it even more unforgettable.

Saturday, July 4, 2020-SW Michigan-Happy July 4th

Saturday, July 4, 2020-SW Michigan-Happy July 4th

Currently 76 with an average wind from the NE of 4 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:08 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Sunny with a high around 90. Light winds.

Clear overnight skies, Low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

As late as yesterday we were supposed to be having a cool front coming in about next Wednesday or Thursday. It was intended to let the temperature dip a bit for a day or two, but it was likely going to bound right back. Now, it does not seemĀ  there will be much of a dip, just a flat out steady 90 degree stretch. This is really unusual for Michigan. In the past we’ve maybe had one or two 90 degree days, but then we’d fall way down, cool off completely. Eventually the temperature would climb again. This summer the 90s set in and seem determined to stay around forever. Going to hate getting my electric bill next month. Never had much of one in the summer before. But then I’ve never had to run my A/C this much before. Not ever.

Mostly clear with a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the evening. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

Last night at 8:00 it was still 88 degrees. This is Michigan. This is not the norm. I don’t really recall seeing such a long stretch of 90 degree days in a row. This is quite interesting but stifling outside. Again I can say thank goodness for A/C.

Thursday, July 2, 2020-SW Michigan-Getting A Mite Toasty

Thursday, July 2, 2020-SW Michigan-Getting A Mite Toasty

Currently 83 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 84. Dew Point 64, Barometer 30.09 & falling, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 90s. Light winds.

Mostly clear with a low in the upper 60s. Light winds with gusts to around 20 in the evening.

Well, it is getting a tad warm around here. No relief in sight far as I can see, so things are simply going to continue to shrivel up, dry up and turn brown. Tree leaves aren’t looking all that healthy right now. Now if we can believe it, if we can hold in here for another week, there does seem to be a chance of some rain moving in. No change in temperatures, those seem to be inclined to stay high. This is one unusual summer so far here in Michigan. Got to wonder, when it’s all finished, how many records for high temperatures we’ll be finding racked up.

Wednesday, July 1, 2020-SW Michigan-Hot Summer Weather

Wednesday, July 1, 2020-SW Michigan-Hot Summer Weather

Currently 74 with an average wind from the ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 69%, visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Sunny. High near 90. E winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear. Low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

There is now a tiny hope for some precipitation next Tuesday…it’s a small, very small percentage, but it’s out there. I think after days and days of 90 or near 90 degree days everyone will be eager for that small chance to materialize. Who knows? By then it might have evaporated, but we can hope.

What is scaring me is the fools busy planning on shooting of fireworks during this exceptionally dry period. Fire danger is going to be a very real problem. And there are always fools unable to look at the big picture while they’re self-serving their own plans. Most years we are lucky enough to get some sort of rain somewhere around the holiday to help alleviate the problem, but this year, not a chance in the world of Mother Nature offering any assistance. We’ll have to depend on luck I reckon.

Mostly clear with a low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

Wow – so this is how it feels to live in the deep south. Our 90s are going to continue beyond the next 7 – 8 days. Who knows after that? Going to be one hot summer! Starting to see the wisdom of getting all the necessary errands done early in the morning. In fact, I’m off to do just that. Staying inside with the A/C the rest of the day seems advisable.
