An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wednesday, July 29, 2020-SW Michigan-Got A Nice Unexpected Overnight Rain

Currently 76 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:30 am, Sunset 9:06 pm.

Partly sunny until midday then clearing. High in the mid 80s. W winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear. Low about 60. NW winds around 10 mph becoming NE overnight.

Well, in spite of no rain having been in our forecast, we did get a nice rain last night. Some low thunder, bit of lightening. It was pleasant as well as unexpected. I guess you can never discount getting a bit of precipitation out of the blue…or out of the dark as in this case.  At any rate, we did need the moisture and again I see nothing in our future until a slight chance on Sunday. We’ll see how it goes. In the mean time the air is fresh and the greenery given a new spritely appearance. Should be a lovely day today.

Tuesday, July 28-2020-SW Michigan – Lots Of Clouds Yesterday, No Rain

Tuesday, July 28-2020-SW Michigan – Lots Of Clouds Yesterday, No Rain

Currently 78 with an average wind from the SSE of 3 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:29 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Sunny. High in the lower 80s. W winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. W winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to around 20.

We never did get any rain from yesterday’s opportunity. Now unless something unusual occurs, I see no chance for at least the next week.  The sky clouded up right properly but not a single drop of precipitation did it produce. A trial run? Rehearsal for another day? No clue. No rain, either. Perhaps something unexpected will sneak in and give us some moisture. Going to get very dry around hear otherwise.

I don’t know. It doesn’t really look or feel much like rain right now. If we miss out on any today, I don’t see any in sight for the next week. Things are going to continue to dry out. This has been a more hot, dry summer than we’re used to. It’s rather funny. I have a friend in Louisiana who is telling me its cooler and wetter down there this summer. Of course, their ‘cooler’ is still hot and with their humidity, not pleasant for the most part. But for them, it is cooler and a lot more rain than they’re used to. We’ve switched summers, it would appear. Wish we could switch out our winters :>)

The heat dome is keeping us snugly inside the high temperature flow. Still looks a bit like rain on Monday and I suspect if we hit another 90 day tomorrow we’ll be welcoming some precipitation. In the meantime, it’s just like down south here this weekend. Everybody trying to get chores and errands done early to avoid as much of the heat as possible.

Rather cloudy with morning but we’ve been promised a sunny day so I suspect these are merely rogue clouds interfering with out picture. Reckon they’ll wander along into some other scenario soon. Sounds like it’s expected to be around 90 by Sunday. A hot weekend coming up.

Partly cloudy. Low around 60. Light winds.

It does sound as if we’re working toward a very hot weekend with a chance of storms moving in being us less heat by the beginning of the week.  Today might be the most comfortable day until about next Tuesday. Well…at least we’re not looking at a hurricane barreling down on us like Hawaii. That’s sounding a bit scary. Hope it all works out well for them.

Wednesday, July 22, 2020-SW Michigan-Pleasantly Rainy Morning

Currently 73 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 29.94, Humidity 95%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:23 am, Sunset 9:14 pm.

Partly cloudy with patchy fog in the lower 60s. Light winds.

Nice soft rain this morning. It does feel humid and close but the sight and sound of the rain is worth it. Should clear up this afternoon. It does look as if the heat will ramp up by this weekend. So this 70/lower 80 degree stuff has to be enjoyed while it’s with us. I aim to do just that.

Tuesday, July 21, 2020-SW Michigan-Refreshingly Cool This Morning

Tuesday, July 21, 2020-SW Michigan-Refreshingly Cool This Morning

Currently 70 with an average wind from the NE of 2 mph. Feels like 70. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mph, Sunrise 6:22 am, Sunset 9:14 pm.

60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

This morning has the feel of fall to it. Really. Not liking that much. And I know it isn’t real and won’t stay. I’m just never ready for even the feel of fall – not even in fall. I want to feel and smell summer. All year – except for Spring – would be fine with me. Since I have very little say in it that isn’t possible. If I did, say goodbye to fall and winter, folks. And I fully realize there are folks who are as much a fan of Autumn as I am of Spring. And there are even, much to my amazement, people who enjoy Winter. But we won’t even think of such misguided souls right now. I just want the warmth of summer every morning and all day long for as long as possible.

Monday, July 20, 2020-SW Michigan- Pleasant Temperatures Until Next Weekend

Monday, July 20, 2020-SW Michigan- Pleasant Temperatures Until Next Weekend

Currently 76 with an average wind from the WNW of 1 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 67%, visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Sunny. High in the lower 80s. W winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 25 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy. Low in the upper 50s. NW winds 5 -10 mph becoming NE overnight.

Looks like a grand week ahead. Maybe a couple days of rain, but the temperatures aren’t supposed to get too high until next weekend. Should be a great Summer week ahead. With the Jet Stream curves way up above us, the forecast for Aug., Sept. and Oct leaves us looking at much above temperatures. That’s welcome news to me, but not to all.
