An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020-SW Michigan-Going To Be Cold Tonight

Currently 55 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 41, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 58%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 7:48 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 60s. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the upper 30s. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Going to be chilly today and downright cold tonight. Time to flip on the furnace and I suspect that could be a trigger for the Hummingbirds to be traveling south. The little feathered creatures have been feeding heavily the past few days, more than usual. I suspect they will be heading out soon on their perilous flight. Noting, too, that our sky is showing signs of the wildfires burning in the West. Our morning sky is hazy. I understand it’s gone as far as the East Coast already. Heartbreaking that so much of the West Coast is blazing.

Wednesday, Sept 16, 2020-SW Michigan-Morning Sun, Afternoon Clouds

Currently 62 with a WSW wind of 5 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30., Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 7:49 pm.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low in the mid 40s. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

It’s a chilly morning and a bit breezy, but the sun is shining. Not going to be this bright later on in the afternoon. We’ve got some really nippy nights coming up. Dipping down into the low 40s….flirting around with 30 degrees. Definitely heading into Autumn.

Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Cooling Down Daily

Currently 61 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 51, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;22 am, Sunset 7:51 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the mid 70. SW winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy. Low in the mid 50s. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

This could be our last 70 degree day for awhile. Appears to be dropping into the 60s. Some 50 degree highs.  Lots of sunshine, perhaps, but not enough to warm things up to where I’d like them. But then again, where I’d like things would be heading into Spring rather than Fall :>) About time to flip on the furnace for the season. I hate waking up to a cold house.

Monday, Sept 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Hasn’t Yet But Due To Get Sunny

Monday, Sept 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Hasn’t Yet But Due To Get Sunny

Currently 54 with an average wind from the E of 3 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 30.37, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 7:53 pm.

Sunny. High in the upper 60s. E winds 5 -10 mph until midday, becoming light.

Clear with a low in the upper 40s. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

So far, nothing but a solid layer of clouds. Looks to be a light layer, but it’s up there allowing no sunshine so far this morning. I have faith that it will clear up and become a bright, shiny day. Still seeing my hummingbirds feeding so mine haven’t left for the south yet, but every day I wouldn’t be surprised not to see them again until next Spring. I make my hummingbird feed a tad stronger this time of year as I know they appear to feed rather heavily before taking off. I have no idea of how far they can get with what they consume here. Such tiny creatures and so far to go. I worry about them every single year.

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-Clearing Up From Overnight Rain

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-Clearing Up From Overnight Rain

Currently 65 with an average wind from the W of 8 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 7:55 pm

Mostly cloudy becoming mostly sunny. High around 70. W winds 5 – 15 mph.

Clear in the evening becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low in the upper 40s. Light winds.

Had a lovely rain overnight. No thunder, lightening, nothing dramatic. Just a good steady rain. One of the kinder, gentler ones. Looks like a winner of a week coming at us. Mostly sunny, a couple of 70 degree days, but mostly dipping down into a high in the 50s, 40 degree nights. Weather is definitely changing.

Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Clouds, Maybe Some Rain Later On

Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Clouds, Maybe Some Rain Later On

Currently 60 with an average wind from the SE of 4 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:19 am, Sunset 7:56 pm

70% chance of rain and thunderstorms overnight. Low around 60. S winds 5 -10 mph becoming W during the night.

Nothing but clouds overhead and I’m hoping the rain holds off until afternoon. Couple of morning errands need running. Since I have no say-so in the matter, I’ll just grab an umbrella on the way out. I’m noticing the birds are feeding more heavily lately. Weather changing sign for sure. Hummingbirds are still here. Seems like they left in early October last year, but not 100% sure. I’ll be watching them closely.

Friday, Sept 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Lovely Sunshine Today

Currently 56 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 48, Barometer 30.36, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:18 am, Sunset 7:58 pm

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 60s. E winds 5 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers. Low in the lower 50s. E winds 5 -10mph.

It’s a pretty morning. Bright and sunny but on the cool side. Temperatures the coming week will be in the upper 60s, lower 70s. But it does, as of this moment, appear as if there will be sunny  days. That, of course, could change by tomorrow, but for now it all sounds good.

Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Another Colorless, Damp Day

Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Another Colorless, Damp Day

Currently 53 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 30.35, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise &;17 am, Sunset 8:00 pm

Cloudy with a patchy drizzle until midday then a 20% chance of rain showers in the afternoon. High in the mid 60s. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight. Low in the mid 40s. NE winds around 5 mph.

Not a pleasant day. Sweater or light jacket chilly. And nothing but clouds overhead. Not a chance of even a peek at the sun today. There’s hope for tomorrow, then again on Saturday, rain and clouds. If we get an every other day break, good enough. Well, it has to be good enough, doesn’t it? Nothing we can do about it.

Wednesday, Sept 9, 2020-SW Michigan-Weather All Downhill From Labor Day

Wednesday, Sept 9, 2020-SW Michigan-Weather All Downhill From Labor Day

Currently 51 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 51 degrees. Dew Point 50, Barometer 30.26, Humidity 98%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:16 am, Sunset 8:02 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the lower 60s. NW winds 5 -15 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain. Low in the lower 50s. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Labor Day was the last really pleasant day weather-wise. Yesterday wasn’t wonderful and today even less so. Temperatures at night are starting to get nippy enough to make a comforter cozy. Seems a high of 60s will be our norm for awhile. Hope a 70 or two will be tossed into the mix. Once it drops below 70, I’m chilly.

Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Labor Day Gave Us A Pleasant Surprise

Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Labor Day Gave Us A Pleasant Surprise

Currently 55 with an average wind from the ESE of 6 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:15 am, Sunset 8:03 pm.

90% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High around 60. NE winds 10 -20 mph.

50% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 50s. NE winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Labor Day, which was supposed to be a rainy mess turned into a sunny, very pleasant day. Could not have been nicer. The rain and the chillier temperatures held off and came in overnight, which left us with a damp, nippy morning. Doesn’t promise to get very much better during the day, so it’s definitely an inside tasks day. Windows closed except for the inch or so for fresh air, but so used to them being wide open here upstairs. Change it is a-coming. Not welcome change, either.
