An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Very Nice Autumn Week Continues

Currently 53 with an average wind from the WSW of 2 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 49, Barometer 30.12, Humidity 100%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:48 am, Sunset 7:10 pm.

Sunny with patchy fog until midday. High in the mid 60s. NW winds 10 mph with gusts to around 20.

Clear overnight skies. Low around 40. Light winds.

Couldn’t ask for a better Autumn week than we’re going through. And it looks to remain this way right on through the weekend. Colors are bright, no wicked wind or driving rain to crash them to the ground.  This year plenty of red showing up. Some years not so much. I’m sure this week plenty of folks will find ways and means of being out to leaf peep. Should be some great picture opportunities.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020-SW Michigan-Looks Like A Great Week Ahead

Currently 64 with an average wind from the W of 6 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 49, Barometer 29.78 & falling, Humidity 58%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:47 am, Sunset 7:12 pm.

Sunny. High in the mid 60s. NW winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Clear overnight. Low in the lower 40s. Light winds.

Fingers crossed that the forecast for the next week holds true. Looks comfortable with plenty of sunshine. You simply can’t beat that in October. We’ve had some really ugly months of October in the past. Even going to far as snow on Halloween. So far, so good with this one.

Better news for the places dealing with bad situations. Looks to be plenty of rain set to come in to the West Coast with the horrific wildfires. And so far, Hurricane Delta seems to have weakened (mainly ’cause of hitting land) somewhat and might not rebuild into something catastrophic before it barrels into places like Louisiana later on. We’ll all be watching both cases and hoping for the best.

Should be a good Autumn week. Comfortable temperatures, mostly sunny. It doesn’t look as if any rain is due until a week from now. Sounds to me like a dandy week for folks to be out and about checking on fall colors.

Currently 44 with an average wind from the S of 6 mph. Feels like 41 degrees. Dew Point 43, Barometer 30.23, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 7;15 pm.

Was only 37 degrees this morning when I went out to feed the critters. It’s encouraging to hear we are going to build our comfortable temps up to 70 – or close – by next Sunday. Of course, it begins a decline right after, but I’ll be happy to see a nice warm weekend again.

Not warming up for a few days but, if we are to put our trust in the long range forecast, we could possibly warm up to the 70 degree mark for a few days new weekend. Hard to believe, but there it is. We’ll hope for the best and accept the rest – as usual.

Friday, Oct. 2, 2020-SW Michigan-Frosty Nights

Friday, Oct. 2, 2020-SW Michigan-Frosty Nights

Currently 45 with an average wind from the NW of 1 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 30.15, Humidity 30.15, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:41, Sunset 7:21 pm.

Areas of frost until midday. 60% chance of rain showers. High in the lower 50s. NW winds around 10 mph.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy. Areas of frost. Low in the mid 30s. Light winds.

Chilly mornings. The coming week looks to be daytime temps in the 50s, night time mostly 40s but dipping into the 30s occasionally. Typical Autumn weather. The Hummers are all gone, the birds remaining are feeding heavy, squirrels are busy burying nuts they’ll probably never find again. Me? I start my stocking up pantry items for times in the winter when the weather is rough, the roads are bad and I simply do not want to be out and about. Again, all typical Autumn stuff.

Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020-SW Michigan- Possible Overnight Frost

Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020-SW Michigan- Possible Overnight Frost

Currently 52 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 52 degrees. Dew Point 48, Barometer 29.86 & falling, Humidity 86%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:22 pm

90% chance of rain showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. High in the mid 50s. W winds 5 -10 mph becoming NW 5 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy with possible overnight frost. Low in the mid 30s. N winds 5 – 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Releasing the names of this year’s winter storms is a sure sign that we’re heading in to the wrong set of seasons for me.  And the chance of frost is starting to pop up occasionally. More unhappy signs of things to come.  Yesterday’s sky was amazing – full of the most wonderful clouds. This morning, a brief hole in the overcast gave us some lovely skies, but as of now any sign of blue has been hidden by a solid layer of mostly colorless clouds. Possible rain seems likely and several sources point to a day with a high only in the upper 40s for tomorrow. Good thing yesterday was a good one.

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020-SW Michigan-Yesterday’s Sky Was Awesome

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020-SW Michigan-Yesterday’s Sky Was Awesome

Currently 53 with an average wind from the S of 6 mph. Feels like 48 degrees. Dew Point 29.48, Barometer 29.48 & falling, Humidity 90%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 7:26 pm.

90% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms. High around 60. S winds 5 – 15 mph becoming W 10 -1 5 mph with gusts to 30.

70% chance of overnight rain. Low in the mid 40s. W winds 5 -10 mph becoming light.

Today’s sky is gloomy, cloudy. Yesterday’s sky, however, was awesome. Powerful, massive clouds. It was an interesting view with the brilliant white clouds against the bright blue sky. Nothing like that today. Happily I caught lots of pictures because today and tomorrow will offer up more clouds – and rain – than yesterday.

Monday, Sept. 29, 2020-SW Michigan-Weather Staying Fairly Steady

Monday, Sept. 29, 2020-SW Michigan-Weather Staying Fairly Steady

Currently 58 with an average wind from the WSW of 3 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Point 50, Barometer 29.83, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 7:26 pm.

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of rain showers. High around 60. W winds around 10-15 mph.

70% chance of rain. Low in the upper 40s. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

As of today it looks as if things are going to level off and our days should be in the low 60s, our nights in the 40 degree range. Nothing we can’t handle. Trees are changing rapidly these days – plenty of green yet, but the other colors are gaining rapidly.  Soon be time to haul out those leaf racks. Drat!
