An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020-SW Michigan-Gloomy Sunday

Currently 53 with an average wind from the W of 6 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 40, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 60%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 6:53 pm.

90% chance of rain showers. High in the mid 50s. W winds 5 -10 mph becoming NW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with areas of overnight frost. Low in the lower 30s. Light winds.

Last night’s wind was sometimes rather fierce. Thought my wind chimes might blow right off the side of the building. This sort of wind and the coming rains will be instrumental in knocking the color right out of our trees. Tonight sounds like some areas might get a solid frost with temperatures down to 30. Seasonal changes are coming on fast.

Friday, Oct. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Should Be A Pretty Morning

Friday, Oct. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Should Be A Pretty Morning

It’s a pretty day. Not going to be very warm but bright. At least until it clouds up and perhaps brings us rain. Tonight sounds like it will be chilly and messy. Frost, rain, t-storms, hail? Sounds like one of those miserable Autumn days offering a hint of what the next season brings. Not that we especially need any reminders.

Currently 47 with an average wind from the WSW of 5 mph. Feels like 44 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.11, Humidity 53%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 6:57 pm.

Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020-SW Michigan- A Gloomy Cold Day

Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020-SW Michigan- A Gloomy Cold Day

Currently 49 with an average wind from the WNW wind of 7 mph. Feels like 46 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 29.73, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 6:58 pm.

Cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. High in the lower 50s. W winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy with widespread frost possible overnight. Low in the low to mid 30s. W winds 10 – 20 mph becoming SW during the night.

Well, today’s not much, but we’ll take it. Do we have a choice? No. No we do not. The good news is that I’m hearing  the possibility of a warmer than usual winter is taking shape. Except perhaps for December, which is usually a cold month anyway but everyone’s usually so busy they hardly notice it. Will be interesting to see how close reality comes to this hypothesis. The only thing we know for sure is the weather we’ve got today – which is rather blah and unremarkable.

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Where Did Our Sunshine Go?

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Where Did Our Sunshine Go?

Currently 53 with an average wind from the S o 1 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 45, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 7:00 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of rain. Low in the upper 40s. SW winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Nary a hint of sunshine today with a fair chance of rain tonight. Along with some wind. There goes a lot of the colorful leaves. Good thing we had lots of lovely days to keep in memory and pictures. Sooner or later they’ll all be down on the ground so hopefully we’ll have plenty more days of leaf peeping ahead before things so drab.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-Cool But Sunny Today

Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-Cool But Sunny Today

Sunny. High in the mid 60s. SW winds 5 -1 5 mph with gusts to around 30.

Mostly clear. Low in the lower 40s. W winds 5 -15 mph.

A nice day. Plenty of sunshine even though it is on the cool side. The coming week looks to be about like this with a tiny chance of rain each day. Not much of a chance, but it’s out there. We just know it’s going to stay cool from now on. Until it no longer is cool – just flat out cold.

Monday, Oct. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Clouds And Likely Rain

Monday, Oct. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Clouds And Likely Rain

Currently 56 with an average wind from the SE of 5 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 29.81, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53, Sunset 7:03 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of evening rain. Low in the mid 40s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30 decreasing to 1o mph with gusts to around 20 overnight.

Yesterday fluctuated from cloudy and chilly to mostly sunny and pleasant. This coming week appears to be another version on a longer scale. We’ll get some 60 degrees with sun, some 50s with rain and end up in the upper 40s with who knows what. This is not gong to be a stellar week weatherwise.  Was good to get out and about yesterday for tons of colorful pictures. When those opportunities present themselves in Michigan, you take them. Hard to tell when the wind and rain will sweep in and knock everything pretty loose from the trees. Yesterday was perfect. Today is dull.

Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Day Starting Gray And Gloomy

Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Day Starting Gray And Gloomy

Currently 48 with an average wind from the ESE of 6 mph. Feels like 44 degrees. Dew Point 46, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 7:05 pm.

Partly sunny today with a high in the mid 60s. E winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low around 50. E winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20.

Our brilliantly sunny, very comfortable temperatures seem to be waning. By the end of next week we’ll be looking at a high in the upper 40s. If I had my druthers, we’d definitely hover around in what we’ve had this past week.  Upper 60s, lower 70s. Very nice to be out and about in. Alas…seasons don’t offer you what you want, they give you what they have in store for you.

Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Wind Bringing Down Colorful Leaves

Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Wind Bringing Down Colorful Leaves

Currently 67 with an average wind from the W of 6 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.83, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 7:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy until midday with a chance of sprinkles. Hi in the lower 70s. W winds 10 -15 mph becoming NW 5 -10 mph with gusts to around 25.

Partly cloudy. Low in the mid 40s. NE winds 5 -10 mph becoming E with gusts to 20 mph.

Yesterday and last night was rather windy and as a result the ground is fairly thick with the litter of leaves. Very colorful but the beginning of leaf rake duty in the near future. Not a chore I particularly look forward to, but one necessary to address at some point before the ground becomes littered with snow rather than leaves. It not coming just yet, but it’s out there. A regular seasonal threat from Mother Nature. The longer it holds off the better, but we never know for sure when our luck runs out. Hence the reason why when we start having to rake leaves we more or less keep at it. Alas….

Friday, Oct. 9, 2020-SW Michigan-Enjoying Our October Warm Up

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SSE of 3 mph. Feels like 48 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 7:03 pm.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the lower 60s. SW winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 30.

This week is absolutely wonderful here in SW Michigan. Plenty of sunshine, very comfortable temperatures and as we well know, temporary. By the end of next week we’ll be down in the high of 50 days again with downright nippy nights. In the meantime, this is SO appreciated. Everyone out taking pictures of the color – which is stunning this year. Mother Nature is being kind.
