An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wow! Hearing about the snow along the East Coast makes me feel downright happy I live where I do. So far winter has been kind to us. We know full well that won’t continue, but so far, so good. Not living in a snow globe for now.

Currently 24 with an average wind from the NE of 7 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

cloudy with a 30% chance of snow. Low in the lower 30s. NE winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Well, it does appear as if we’re going to get at least some of this winter storm traveling across the country. Until it starts to fall, who knows? Except for today/tonight and perhaps a wintry mix about Saturday, there isn’t anything yet on the horizon until – yeah, you guessed it – the day before Christmas. Right now they’re calling for a rain/snow situation and I am fearful of that turning into an ice problem. I surely do hope that doesn’t become the case. Way too many people planning on being on the road that day for any weather issues to get in the way. We’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Downright Chilly Out There

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Downright Chilly Out There

Currently 20 with an average wind from the NNE of 5 mph. Feels like 14 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.36, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the upper 20s. Light winds becoming E 5 – 10 mph in the afternoon.

Cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 20s. E winds 10 -15 mph.

It’s plain old cold out there. And right now it looks as if all of those concerned with having a White Christmas will be happy as we seem to be set to get some snow a couple of days before hand. That should make them all happy. Yippee. Not me. I’ve got driving around to do on the 24 and I’m not looking forward to crummy roads to be doing that on. Oh well…what will be, will be.

Monday, Dec. 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Light Snow Showers Today

Monday, Dec. 14, 2020-SW Michigan-Light Snow Showers Today

Currently 27 with an average wind from the W of 2 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 81%, Visibility 0.5 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High around 30. NW winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low 15-20. NW winds 5 -10 in the evening becoming light.

Doesn’t appear to be more snow in our forecast until about next Saturday. And even then it doesn’t look to be any big weather event. Unlike what looks to be yet another snow storm set on traveling through the country -thankfully again to the south of us – and making for a potential mess on the East Coast about Wednesday and Thursday. Sorry for them. Glad it’s not us in the crosshairs.  So far, winter storms seem to be forming and moving through the country on a fairly steady rate already this year. Feeling fortunate indeed not to have been involved in any of it. The upper part of Michigan has had a share but so far, so good here in lower SW Michigan. May it remain so.

Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-We Did Get Some Snow

Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020-SW Michigan-We Did Get Some Snow

Currently 34 with an average wind from the WSW of 4 mph with gusts to 10 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.11, Humidity 85%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers possible mixed with rain through early afternoon. High in the mid 30s. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low in the mid 20s. W winds 5 -15 mph.

We did end up with a couple inches of snow yesterday. Rain turned to snow in the afternoon and Viola! there we were in the snowy part of the map. Didn’t really amount to much but it won’t be disappearing anytime soon as the temperatures are determined to stay low enough to keep it in place. Not a pretty sight for those of us decidedly not snow lovers. Could have been worse, so can’t complain. I’m tempted to – but what’s the point :>)

Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day, Perhaps Some Snow Later

Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day, Perhaps Some Snow Later

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SE of 9 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.6, Humidity 100%, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm

100% chance of rain until midday then possible some snow mixed in. Snow accumulation 1″ or less. High in the upper 30s. E winds 15 -25 becoming N 5 – 15 in the afternoon.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of snow possibly mixed with rain overnight. Low in the lower 30s. NW winds 5 – 15 mph.

So far we’re only seeing rain here in lower SW Michigan. Snowing in the upper parts of Michigan but none showing up here. Maybe later today? Maybe a bit overnight? No way of telling until we get there and see what happens. Lots of snow so far in many places be so far we’ve managed to escape. Hopefully that luck with continue.

Friday, Dec. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Likely Looking At Only Weekend Rain Here Now

Friday, Dec. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Likely Looking At Only Weekend Rain Here Now

Currently 39 with an average wind from the ENE of 6 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.97, Humidity 93%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon rain. High in the lower 40s. NE winds around 10 mph increasing to 10-15 in the afternoon.

100% chance of overnight rain. Low in the upper 30s. E winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to 30.

Only a couple of days ago it seemed as if we might be in for some snow this weekend, but now, it’s appearing more and more that the snow will go to the north of us, more to upper Michigan, leaving us with rain. Which is fine and dandy as far as I’m concerned. I’d love to see the snow hold off as long as possible, so if this particular storm wants to wander off and miss us? Good enough! I’m fine with that plan.

Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Weekend Now Might Be Just Rain

Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Weekend Now Might Be Just Rain

Currently 33 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew point 33, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Partly sunny until midday becoming mostly sunny. Widespread dense freezing fog and areas of fog until midday. High in the upper 40s. S winds 5 -10mph.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy. Low in the lower 30s. S winds 10 mph.

Okay, so now the picture for the weekend seems to be minus snow for my area. Who knows? But for now, we seem to be looking at rain rather than snow. It sounds as if the snow will be hitting in the upper portions of Michigan. I know. I know. Just yesterday…but things change with the weather so quickly. A tiny wobble here, a wiggle there, in the systems and a whole new pictures comes in focus. So – for now, it’s rain. We’ll see how it goes.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, SW Michigan-Morning Clouds Maybe Afternoon Sun

Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, SW Michigan-Morning Clouds Maybe Afternoon Sun

Currently 38 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 32. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 94%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy until midday becoming mostly sunny. High in the mid 40s. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy. Low in the upper 20s. W winds around 10 mph becoming light overnight.

Not much out there right now but clouds. We have a gray sky. Not very attractive, in fact, downright boring. But hopefully they will drift on out of our picture and leave a clear path for some sunshine. Looking forward to it.

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Wondering What The Weekend Will Bring

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020-SW Michigan-Wondering What The Weekend Will Bring

Currently 34 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 99%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a chance of flurries until about midday. High in the upper 30s. SW winds around 10 mph becoming S 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 30s. W winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Well, this weekend is shaping up to be interesting. Not quite sure what to expect yet beyond precipitation. What kind? That’s the part up in the air. (No pun intended…well, maybe just a little one)  Depending on whether the Euro or GFS system takes center stage, we could get anything from rain to rain/snow to snow.  Sounds like a grand weekend to stay inside, bake some bread, clean out a closet…what ever. But it does sound as if it’s going to be an inside activity weekend.
