An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020-SW Michigan-Could Be Some Breaks In The Clouds Today

Currently 25 with an average wind from the ENE of 8 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew point 24, Barometer 29.81 & falling, Humidity 95%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;13 am, Sunset 5:14 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. SE winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

90% chance of rain showers then snow showers possibly mixed with rain overnight. Low in the upper 20s. SW winds 5 – 10 mph becoming NW 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Well, I don’t know about you but when I see an overnight temperature predicted to be in the upper 20s and rain/snow mix is mentioned, I’m thinking ice. Icy roads for sure by morning if that happens. Not a good thought.

We are gaining a second now and then now in the length of our days. Hey…even a second counts when you aren’t happy with the short days and long nights of winter. At least we’re heading in the right direction now. Will take awhile to get back to where I like it, but it’s going to get there eventually.

Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020-SW Michigan-Cloudy, Chilly Day After Christmas

Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020-SW Michigan-Cloudy, Chilly Day After Christmas

Currently 26 with an average wind from the W of 2 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 93%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:13 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high around 30. W winds 5 – 15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 20s. Light winds.

A couple of fairly decent days coming up – cold, but no snow forecast (I know. I know. That could change in a heartbeat) so no new snow coming that we are expecting until about Wednesday. Then we can expect the roads to get messy for New Year’s like they were for Christmas. Difference is not nearly as many people are going to be moving around on New Years as they were for Christmas. In spite of political pressure to stay controlled and manipulated, most folks joined their families for Christmas rather than wasting time with them they may never get back. But New Year’s? Celebrations are going to be small and in house this year. Along with enormous hopes and wishes for a more sane return to freedoms and living for 2021.

Friday, Dec. 25, 2020-SW Michigan-A Merry Christmas From SW Michigan

Friday, Dec. 25, 2020-SW Michigan-A Merry Christmas From SW Michigan

Currently 19 with an average wind from the WSW of 4 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 29.75, Humidity 99%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8;12 am, Sunset 5;13

Mostly cloudy today with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the upper 20s. W winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 20% chance of snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. W winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Seem silly to type in a number like 20 after the word high…that’s not even a comfortable low. Definitely Winter weather this Christmas. Snow, slippery roads, wind, cold. Just what everyone wanted. Not too pleased with all those foolish folk wishing for a White Christmas. We got it. But we got all the junk that goes along with it, too.  Hope they’re all happy. I’m sure not. I hope Santa slipped right on past their house on the ice and left them with bare stockings hanging on the fireplace. Which, if they had any sense, would be blazing with a snapping hot fire anyway. At any rate, White Christmas – or my preference, one with warm sand and palm trees – I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happier New Year than we’ve had this time around.

Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020-SW Michigan-Christmas Eve Day Weather Advisory

Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020-SW Michigan-Christmas Eve Day Weather Advisory

Currently 19 with an average wind from the SSW of 5 mph. Feels like 10 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 29.62, Humidity 88%, Visibility 0.25 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:12 pm.

80% chance of snow showers. High mid 20s. W winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to 35 decreasing to 25 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low 15-20 degrees. NW winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7:00 pm. Up to 4″ of snow possible. Very chilly today and snow is flying around. Roads are slick which is making what is always a busy day – the day before Christmas – a treacherous affair. I’m hoping everyone takes their time, slows down and watches out for the other guy. Hopefully we’ll all make it to Christmas safely.

Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020-SW Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory For Tomorrow

Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020-SW Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory For Tomorrow

Currently 41 with an average wind from the SE of 9 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Windy with a 40% chance of rain. High in the upper 40s. S winds 15 – 25 with gusts to 30, possibly 40 mph.

90% chance of overnight rain possibly mixed with snow overnight. Snow accumulation 1″ or less. Low in the lower 20s. SW winds 15-20 with gusts to 35 mph.

We have a Winter Weather Advisory determined to settle in the day before Christmas with rapidly falling temperatures resulting in wind chills in the single digits. Around 3″ of snow expected. Windy, dangerous driving conditions. Just what everyone needed the busy day before Christmas. I’m telling you Mother Nature is dreadful at giving gifts. And her timing for delivering them is atrocious.  I’m really hoping everyone can get as much done as possible today and stay inside safe tomorrow. That’s my plan, anyway.

Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow Yet, Some Coming

Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow Yet, Some Coming

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;11 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. NW winds 5 – 10 mph becoming W the afternoon with gusts to 20.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 30s. S winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 30.

So far today it’s just another gray, colorless day. You know. The usual Michigan day that we’ve grown to detest by the time Spring swings around again. It does sound more and more like snow will be starting Wednesday night and continuing right on through Christmas day. No longer a question about whether we’ll have a White Christmas, just a question about how much of that miserable white we’re going to have to be driving through to get to our family Christmas. (You know – that traditional festive holiday some of the far-Left manipulators, the nitwits in charge, are trying to tell us to cancel)

Monday, Dec. 21, 2020-SW Michigan-A Messy Week Ahead

Monday, Dec. 21, 2020-SW Michigan-A Messy Week Ahead

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SSE of 9 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.6, Humidity 97%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

90% chance of snow showers until midday then possibly mixed with rain. Patchy fog. Snow accumulation 1″ or less expected. High in the mid 30s. S winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain/snow showers possibly mixed with some freezing rain. High around 30. NW winds 5 -15 mph.

Well, it looks to be just a mess. Snow/Rain/Freezing Rain/Fog…we are looking at the possibility of about any and everything you can think of. What a crummy week for all of this to be setting in. You can count on Mother Nature being a pain in the neck whenever possible and since it sounds as if she can’t make up her mind, she’s determined to toss a bit of it all at us. Couldn’t have held off for a week or two? Of course not.

Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow So Far

Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow So Far

Currently 34 with an average wind from the WSW 10 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.86, Humidity 95%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:10 pm.

Cloudy with a 20% chance of drizzle until bout midday. Patchy fog. High in the upper 30s. SW winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy with a low around 30. SW winds 5 – 15 mph.

An interesting week, it looks like. The word snow keeps cropping up, but so do temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. Very strange. It will be interesting to see which one wins, the snow or the warmth. Personally, I’m rooting for the warmth. But we’ll see. Usually a very busy week, this one, as even in normal times (which we’re about as far from as possible) many folks leave Christmas shopping until the last week – or even the last minute. So I’m hoping for all of those scurrying around in their proper little masks at least decent roads to travel on.

Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020-SW Michigan-Light Snow/Rain In Forecast

Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020-SW Michigan-Light Snow/Rain In Forecast

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SSE of 3 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 97%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

70% chance of snow showers possibly mixed with rain in the afternoon. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Patchy fog throughout the day. High in the mid 30s. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy over night with a 20% chance of drizzle and snow showers. Patchy fog. Low in the lower 30s. SE winds around 10 mph.

Not a pleasant day and yet another dismal gray sky. We are going into the season of dismal gray skies so we’ve be experiencing them far too often. I’m already thinking Spring. At any rate, not much snow expected from this round, but it’s definitely looking like snow Christmas Eve day and Christmas. Swell. I reckon that will make some happy, but I’m not numbered among them. Got driving around to do on the 24th that needs to be done but might not if the roads are ugly. Dang! Hopefully this will change by then, but for now just not a good thought.

Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, SW Michigan-Cold, Maybe Overnight Snow

Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, SW Michigan-Cold, Maybe Overnight Snow

Currently 29 with an average wind from the SSE of 3 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.31, Humidity 94%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the upper 30s. S winds around 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 50% chance of rain/snow. Low in the lower 30s. S winds 10 -15 mph.

Not going to see any sunshine again today. And it does look as if some snow will be coming our way overnight and tomorrow. Nothing like the East Coast nightmare, but 1-3″ maybe. That, all by itself, is too much for me.
