An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, Dec. 7, 2020-SW Michigan-Overcast Morning, Maybe Sun Later

Currently 27 with an average wind from the ENE of 2 mph. Feels like 23. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Partly sunny at some point today. High in the upper 30s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the mid 20s. Light winds.

My understanding is that at some time today we will see some sunshine. Not right now, though, ’cause it’s totally overcast out there this morning. Not a peek of the sun anywhere in sight. And it’s pretty chilly. Definitely a jacket on morning to go out and toss bird seed and squirrel peanuts at the back yard feeding station. Not going to warm up a whole lot today, but with any luck, seeing some sunshine will make it feel more comfortable. We’ll see how it goes.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 30s. Light winds.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a low in the mid 20s. Light winds.

Not a particularly pretty day and a bit chilly but with no wind blowing to speak of it could feel worse. Looks as if sometime next week we might – unless things change, and we all know they can and do – see a few days with temperatures in the upper 40s. Won’t that be great? For December? In Michigan? Absolutely. Looking forward to it.

Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020-SW Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds, No Rain/Snow

Currently 31 with an average wind from the NNE of 4 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. N winds around 5 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight becoming partly cloudy with a low in the mid 20s. Light winds.

Nothing much showing up in our forecast as far as snow showers for the next week. Not like places in the rest of the country. Now there is a proper Nor’easter taking aim at the East Coast. Sounds like double digit snowfalls in many places. This is the second winter storm to form already and lucky both of them skipped on without bothering us here in SW Michigan. Fingers crossed this pattern continues.

Friday, Dec. 4, 2020-SW Michigan-Blue Skies, Peachy Morning Clouds

Friday, Dec. 4, 2020-SW Michigan-Blue Skies, Peachy Morning Clouds

Currently 38 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.52, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:07 pm

Mostly cloudy. High in the lower 40s. W winds 10 – 15 mph becoming NW in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy. Low in the upper 20s. n winds 5 -10 mph.

The weather forecasts are all over the map about what sort of winter we’re going to have – how much snowfall, where will be fall in the temperature range. I’m, personally, going to settle (as much as nature will allow me to) on the one that says mostly above temperatures and below snowfall. Sounds like a wonderful Michigan winter to me. But then, I’m not a winter weather fan. So I’m not shining my snowmobile, fine tuning my snowshoes, polishing my skies.  Me? I’m stocking up on books, snacks, bird and critter food, lining up Britbox TV segments to watch…my usual winter prep routine. Then I’ll settle in and accept whatever Mother Nature throws at us. As usual. After all, what choice do we really have? But bottom line, my fingers are crossed and hopes are up for the lighter winter forecast for my little backyard area.

Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020-SW Michigan-SW Michigan-Mostly Cloudy, Overnight Flurries Possible

Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020-SW Michigan-SW Michigan-Mostly Cloudy, Overnight Flurries Possible

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SSW of 7 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy today. High in the low 40s. W winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy with a chance of some snow flurries showing up. Low in the mid 30s. SW winds 10 -1 5 mph.

Yesterday not a hint of snow flurries showing up – today, there it is – that ugly s word. Flurries or showers of it not so bad, but if I had my druthers, I’d rather not hear even that. Hopefully it won’t happen and if it does, it will be gone by morning. So far, so good around here. Much unlike the states that got hammered with the snow storm that traveled across the nation to the south of us.

Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020-SW Michigan-A Wonderful Wednesday In Store

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 30.22, Humidity 85%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the mid 40s. W winds 5 – 15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low in the lower 30s. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Lucky us, we escaped any of the snow storm that swept along to the south of us, dumping more than 10″ on places like Cleveland. That’s one doozy of a winter storm to start the season off with. Here we’ve only had on measurable snow, back in November and it wasn’t much and didn’t last. That’s my kind of winter weather.

Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020-SW Michigan-Some Sun, Some Clouds, No Snow

Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020-SW Michigan-Some Sun, Some Clouds, No Snow

Currently 30 with an average wind from the W of 7 mph. Feels like 20 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 30s. NW winds 15 -2 0 mph with gusts to 30.

Clear overnight skies. Low around 30. NW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Meteorological Winter makes a heck of a lot more sense than the Astronomical Winter version. Everyone with a working brain knows the season are split into 4 seasons of 3 months each – Winter being December, January, and February. Any other way looking at it is a waste of time. So…we’re starting out the real Winter season on a positive note. Positively no snow yet in this area. Yippee.

A bit breezy but some sunshine is going to be with us today and the temperatures won’t be dreadful. Going to warm up into the 40s over the next 4 or 5 days, which is delightful. Snow is falling elsewhere and I’m so overjoyed that it is elsewhere. I’m never ready for the dastardly winter weather that’s usually with us by now, so this respite from the inevitable is more than welcome.

Monday, Nov. 30, 2020-SW Michigan-No Sunshine, But No Snow Or Rain

Monday, Nov. 30, 2020-SW Michigan-No Sunshine, But No Snow Or Rain

Currently 31 with an average wind from the WNW of 10 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 29.84, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the lower 30s. N W winds 15-20 with gusts to around 30.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20s. NW winds 10 – 15 mph with gust to 25.

Not a charming morning. Rather gray and gloomy but it’s not raining and it’s not snowing, so there is that. All in all not a bad last day of November. We’ve seen far worse in the past and likely will in the future, but not this time around. Good enough.

Sunday, Nov. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow Makes It A Grand Day

Sunday, Nov. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-No Snow Makes It A Grand Day

Currently 39 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 91%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly sunny becoming partly sunny in the afternoon. High in the upper 40s. SW winds 10 -15 mph with gust to 25.

Cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 30s. N winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

It’s a grand morning. Sunny, hardly a significant cloud in the sky and no snow mentioned in the next 10 day forecast. How much better could this be for an end of November in Michigan? It couldn’t. You won’t hear anything anywhere near a complaint from this source. Just going to enjoy the sunshine – and lack of snow.

Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-Sunny Saturday For Us

Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020-SW Michigan-Sunny Saturday For Us

Currently 41 with an average wind from the S of 6 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 40s. SW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Mostly clear. Low in the mid 30s. SW winds 5 -15 mph.

Sunny and a bit brisk today, but nothing to complain about this entire weekend. Sunshine and 40 degrees for the end of November is nothing short of lovely. Plus, it looks as if we’re going to miss out on the snow storm that seems set on passing to the south in the early part of the week. Makes me even more happy. Altogether being blessed with wonderful weather this month.
