An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, SW Michigan-Light Snow/Rain Mix This Morning

Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, SW Michigan-Light Snow/Rain Mix This Morning

Currently 33 with an average wind calm from the North. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.56, Humidity 98%, Visibility 0.86 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:32 pm.

Cloudy today with a 100% chance of rain/snow. Temperatures holding steady in the lower 30s. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy tonight with a 40% chance of more snow showers. Low 29. Light winds.

This morning is interesting. Nothing, then what looks like rain. Then what is surely snow. Goodness knows what our roads and yards will look like by the end of the day. Checking most weather reporting stations it looks very much like by the end of the week, everything will look snowy because it seems to be in the forecast almost every day. Not a cheery week. A good week to start thinking about Spring. Of course, I, personally, start thinking about Spring somewhere in the middle of Autumn, but hey…that’s just me. The person who loves sunshine and warmth.

Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Gray Clouds But Decent Temperatures

Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Gray Clouds But Decent Temperatures

Currently 32 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 29.71, Humidity 93%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:31 pm.

90% chance of snow showers possibly mixed with rain. Low in the lower 30s. SE winds 5 -15 mph.

Well, here we are with a temperature today that might reach up to 40 degrees. Didn’t think we’d see another one of these for awhile. Going to enjoy the dickens out of it cause it sounds like we’ve got nothing but snow. Temperatures dipping into the 20s, not many stretching to the 30s, from now on. Today will be a dandy day to get out and about and tend to errands that need to be run.

Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021-A Bit Of A Warm Up

Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021-A Bit Of A Warm Up

Temperature 34 with an average wind from the SSW of 2 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 98%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:30 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. SW winds 5 – 15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 20% chance of rain or snow showers. Low in the lower 30s. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Well, the lovely South winds are blowing in a bit of warmth today and tomorrow. Won’t last long, but sure appreciate while here. Actually, though it now looks as if our 30 degree days might last through the week. Surprising. More snow is coming in starting Friday and looks to be hanging around for some time – as given the proper order of things, it should. This is, after all, January. For me, long as it’s not bitter cold, I can take the snow. It’s the cold I detest with my entire being.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021-Another Weather Advisory For Us

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021-Another Weather Advisory For Us

Currently 28 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8;12 am, Sunset 5:29 pm

Cloudy with a 40% chance of freezing drizzle. Patchy fog all day. High in the mid 30s. SW winds 5-15 with gusts to 25.

Cloudy overnight with patchy fog. Low around 30. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

A Weather Advisory is in effect until somewhere around noon. Freezing Drizzle and Patchy Fog is making traveling around a bit scary. Hopefully folks will be cautious and slow down. A possibility, a slim one I know, but hopeful. Another chance for frozen mix about next Thursday, and then days of snow. A miserable part of winter is upon us.

Monday, Jan. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Snow, Maybe Freezing Drizzle On The Way

Monday, Jan. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Snow, Maybe Freezing Drizzle On The Way

Currently 27 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.19, Humidity 94%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:28 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of light freezing drizzle & snow showers in the afternoon. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 30% chance of light freezing drizzle. Ice accumulation 1/10″ possible. Low in the upper 20s. SW winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Our forecasts are all over the place again. Some offering only snow coming, some tossing in the freezing drizzle. Sounds as if by the end of the week there might be a big snow maker entering our picture, so no matter what we get between now and then, we’ll end up with snow on the ground by next weekend. Sounds wintry.

Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Clouds-Some Snow Possible This Week

Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Clouds-Some Snow Possible This Week

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.29, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:27 pm.

20% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the lower 30s. Light winds.

40% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the mid 20s. Light winds becoming W 5 -10 mph in the afternoon.

So – now some snow has moved into our forecast during the week. Don’t see anything drastic, but then I didn’t even see the word snow involved just a few days ago. So changeable is the best way to describe our weather. So far our daytime temperatures are supposed to stay in the lower 30s up until next weekend, then they tumble down into a high in the 20s. Coldest part of winter coming at us – late January and through February, so this is not unexpected. Unappreciated, maybe, but nothing can be done about that.

Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Sunny Day For Us

Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Sunny Day For Us

Currently 30 with an average wind from the NW of 1 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:26 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 30s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. Light winds.

Today is a delightful day. The sun is shining with all its might and nary a cloud in sight at the moment. Love days like this…well, I’d love it more if it was 78 degrees, but hey…this isn’t June, this is January. So I’ll take this and be happy for it. The wintry mix or freezing drizzle seems at the moment to have been removed from tomorrow’s forecast, so hoping that holds.  Now it only says – on a few sites – a chance of flurries. But on all of them, it still appears as if we have at least another week of 30 or more degree days coming our way. All in all, an agreeable month, thus far. May it continue to be so.

Friday, Jan 8, 2021, SW Michigan, Maybe Another Week Of 30 Degree Days?

Friday, Jan 8, 2021, SW Michigan, Maybe Another Week Of 30 Degree Days?

Currently 23 with an average wind from the WNW of 5 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.25, Humidity 95%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;13 am, Sunset 5:24 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the lower 30s. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low 15-20 degrees. Light winds.

Well, now they’ve – some of the weather sites – moved the chance of some freezing drizzle on Sunday. I’m hoping this doesn’t come about. Nothing worse than ice on the roads. Snow most people can handle, ice is another story entirely.  And it looks very much like we have maybe another week of daytime temperatures hovering around in the lower 30s before it plunges down into the 20s for our daytime comfort. Not looking forward to that. We all know it’s coming – it has to – but not anticipated with much joy.

Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, SW Michigan-Some Thinning Clouds Later

Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, SW Michigan-Some Thinning Clouds Later

Currently 31 with an average wind from the ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.36, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:23 pm.

Cloudy with a slight chance of snow flurries until midday. High in the mid 30s. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 20s. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Yesterday the clouds did thin out enough to see patches of light blue overhead. Not a lot of color, but some color is better than none. Looking forward to more blue breaking through the clouds later today, too. Fingers crossed. Out daytime temperatures continue, if the forecast is to be believed, about freezing and I don’t see any drastic precipitation coming our way any time soon. So far, not a bad winter. May it continue to be accommodating.

Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Nothing Much More Than Clouds Overhead

Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Nothing Much More Than Clouds Overhead

Currently 34 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 34. Dew Point 32, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 95%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:22 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the mid 30s. Light winds.

Cloudy overnight with a chance of evening snow showers. Low in the upper 20s. Light winds.

Sure would like to see a cloudless, blue sky overhead. Not going to happen today, that’s for sure.  But in a few days we might be able to see some sunshine. Some is better than none at all. As of now, no big deal precipitation coming our way for a week or so but then the dread wintry mix shows up again. Those are not good words to read. Would rather be  seeing the opportunity for snow – and that’s not a happy thought all in itself. For now we seem to have some strange absence of snow here in SW Michigan and that’s not run of the mill for the month of January. Does this mean it will hit us eventually like a brick wall? Or is this going to continue to be a mild winter from beginning to end? That would make me happy but most certainly not snow/winter fans. They aren’t pleased at the way things are going. Oh well…can’t all be happy :>)
