An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Monday, June 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Could We Finally Be Getting Some Rain?

Monday, June 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Could We Finally Be Getting Some Rain?

Currently 74 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.99, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

Mostly cloudy with an 80% chance of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. High in the mid 80s. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 24% chance of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

With all the opportunities for some rain lighting up the board over the next 4 or 5 days, surely we can pull of some along the way. Right? Goodness knows we need it. The temperatures are looking to stay fairly steady in the 80 degree range, and the chance for rain fluctuates from day to day, but it is there. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t just show up in print. So…starting out the week with the promise of precipitation. We shall see if that promise holds true or not. Me? I have my umbrella on the ready, just in case. Because if we do get it, it’s going to come while I’m out and about tending to errands. It’s the law of the jungle.

Sunday, June 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Nary A Cloud In The Sky

Sunday, June 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Nary A Cloud In The Sky

Currently 83 degrees with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 83 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 29.99, Visibility 10 mi.,Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy. Low around 70. SW winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Shouldn’t see a cloud overhead to day but there is a small chance of rain coming our way for the next 5 days. Not a big chance, but some. So we’ll at least be seeing some clouds. Temperatures should stay in the 80 degree range. So looking forward to a nice warm rain. No guarantee we’ll get that but I live in hope. Today just enjoy the warmth and the sunshine. And think of the winter days when it’s hovering below freezing without a peek of the sun for days on end. Now…don’t you appreciate today’s weather better?

Saturday, June 5, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny Summer Day To Enjoy

Saturday, June 5, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny Summer Day To Enjoy

Currently 75 with an average wind from the SSW of 5 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew point 57, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 80s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Mostly clear overnight skies. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds 5 -15 mph.

A delicious Summer day is ours to enjoy blessed by a sun-filled blue sky with warm temperatures to wrap around us. This is so fine. Hard to tell if we should count on it or not but most weather reporting stations are suggesting a fair chance of some rain next week. Some say a couple of days hold out that chance, one says the opportunity stretches out for 3 days. I wouldn’t bet any hard-earned money on it but we sure could use some rain so I’m going to be optimistic, cross my fingers and hope for the best. The best, after a really hot weekend like this one is destined to be would be for some rain. Even if we do luck out and get some precipitation, the temperatures should stay in the 80 degree range. So…wouldn’t that be cool? A nice warm rain or two? We’ll see how it goes. In the meantime, this is one of those Summer weekends we wish for in the midst of a cold, snowy weekend.

Friday, June 4, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Summer Day

Friday, June 4, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Summer Day

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 29.87 & rising, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Mix of morning sun and clouds becoming a mostly sunny afternoon. High in the mid 80s. SSW winds 10-10 with gusts to 35 in the evening.

Mostly clear overnight skies. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Happy me living with my bedroom and craft/computer room on the second floor. I can safely leave my windows open on both sides of the apartment all night long. Love that night air. So does my cat who does enjoy stationing himself in one of the window to keep a sharp eye on the nighttime world.  My watch cat if you will. This is what I dream about all winter long. Plenty of nights coming up giving us both that happiness.

Plenty of good hot summer weather coming our way. Likely over 90 by Sunday. Back into the 80s later on in the week, and it appears to be set on hovering there for a good long while. This seems to be about perfect in my book. Just color me content. Finally the weather I love.

Thursday, June 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Gearing Up For The Heat

Thursday, June 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Gearing Up For The Heat

Currently 65 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 85%, Visibility 1.5 mph. Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:16 pm.

Partly sunny with patchy fog until midday. High in the lower 80s. Light winds becoming SW 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain showers or an isolated thunderstorm. Low in the upper50s. SW winds 5-10 mph becoming light.

It’s interesting reading from site to site which weather reporting system is predicting the highest temperatures for our area around Sunday. A couple are saying 92. Even the lowest is saying 90, so we can pretty well figure it’s going to be hot. Plenty of places around the country about to set some new records as far as heat goes with this system. And it’s going to stay hot through next week. We can figure pretty much in the 80s around SW Michigan. I guess this is the summer weather we’ve been waiting for. Well, some of us, anyway. Me. For sure, me. But when it gets good and hot – like 90 degrees – I take that opportunity to do as little as possible. Sip a lot of lemonade, read…just lop around and be as lazy and stay as cool as possible. I love a good excuse to sit around and read. Here comes a few :>)

Wednesday, June 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Wicked Heat Coming At Us

Wednesday, June 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Wicked Heat Coming At Us

Currently 73 degrees with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.07 & falling, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Mostly sunny until midday becoming cloudy with a 20% chance of a rain shower. High in the mid 70s. SE winds around 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy. Patchy overnight fog. Low in the upper 50s. E winds around 5 mph becoming light.

Today will not be uncomfortable, but by this weekend? Oh yeah…most weather sites are reporting we will have two or three days in the 90s with a whole lot of days well up in the upper 80s sprinkled around them. Here comes Summer! And with Consumer’s Power starting a mandatory price change costing us bigger bucks for the hours between 2:00 in the afternoon and 7:00 in the evening, a bunch of us are going to have to try and weather the heat minus our AC cranked up where it usually would be. Sound like fun? Yup…but then again, not so unhandy as those without AC at all. I do worry about these folks. Try to keep an eye on the people you know who are going to be vulnerable to effects from severe heat. I hope I’m wrong, but it does look as if this coming Summer is going to be a scorcher and this could be just the beginning.

Tuesday, June 1, 2021-SW Michigan-Building Up To A Boiling Hot Weekend

Tuesday, June 1, 2021-SW Michigan-Building Up To A Boiling Hot Weekend

Currently 62 with an average wind from the WSW of 7 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 49, Barometer 30.23 & rising, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Sunny to partly cloudy today with a high of 76. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

A few passing clouds through a mostly clear overnight sky. Low 52. NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

Okay…after what has – except for the month of March – been a lousy Spring, here comes the heat of Summer. We could very likely hit a 90 degree day on Sunday. Right now it seems to me like we’re in for a good and hot summer. For those who hate the heat, that word good will seem inappropriate I imagine. Me? I like hot weather, but when it gets close to 90 and humid, not even I am happy or comfortable with that. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds this coming season. Only thing we can be assured of, and grateful for, is we’re not in the hurricane season bullseye here in SW Michigan. Sounds like that’s going to be heading into an active arena this year, too. At any rate, here comes Summer, ready or not.

Monday, May 31, 2021-SW Michigan-Cloudy Memorial Day Weather Here

Monday, May 31, 2021-SW Michigan-Cloudy Memorial Day Weather Here

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 42, Barometer 30.27, Humidity 45%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Partly cloudy early becoming mostly cloudy. High 72. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy early becoming partly cloudy as the night goes on. Low 49. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Still looking for the 80 degree weather to begin about next Friday. Looks to be some rain coming about midweek – Wednesday and Thursday, but it should  clear out leaving warmer temperatures behind it.  Sounds like a pleasant forecast to me.

Hoping everyone pauses a minute or two today to remember the reason for this holiday. To give thanks to those who gave their all so that we could live on with freedoms and hope. And to reinforce the fact that we owe it to all of them to safeguard and ensure those freedoms continue.

Sunday, May 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Cool Memorial Day Weekend

Sunday, May 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Cool Memorial Day Weekend

Currently 65 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 28%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:08 am, Sunset 9:14 pm.

Sun and clouds mix today. High near 70. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Low 48. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

A bit of the cool side today, but it’s a lovely, sunny day none-the-less. Feels like a great day for a walk or a hike or a bike ride…or just to sit outside and soak it all up. The wind is faint so not an issue. Makes it feel more friendly than the temperature would suggest it is. Now looking way off to next weekend to see any 80 degree days, but hopefully they’ll put in an appearance by then. Hoping, also that we’ve finally seen the last of the possible frost alerts for our overnight hours. This is beyond silly. This is almost June. The word frost should be well in the past by now. Let’s think positive and put it firmly behind us. Maybe Mother Nature will join our game and cooperate.

In the meantime I hope you’re having a grand day.

Saturday, May 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold Temperatures Hanging On

Saturday, May 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Cold Temperatures Hanging On

Currently 47 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew point 32, Barometer 30.23, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:06 am, Sunset 9:13 pm.

Lots of sunshine today. High near 65. NE winds 10-20 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Areas of frost likely. Low around 35 degrees. ENE winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph in the evening becoming light.

Thanks to the Jet Stream, still not playing nice and taking a deep dip to the south, we are left in the low temperature part of the picture. Plenty of sunshine today, but not a whole lot of warmth coming our way. And the thought of possible frost overnight on the last Saturday night in May is downright unfriendly on the part of Mother Nature.  We will get there, trust me. Starting Monday the temperatures will begin to edge back into the 70s and by the end of the week – 80 degree days will be ours! But this weekend? Grab a jacket and enjoy the sunshine is the best we can do.
