An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Although some places around the nation are still caught up in a heat wave, our last few days have been on the cool side – refreshing to some, downright chilly to me. Today will see our temperatures on the rise again with a pretty fair opportunity for some rain tonight and tomorrow morning. Whether we get the rain or not, we will at least be able to count on warming up today. Not heat wave warm up but at least back into the comfort zone.

Well, for me, I’m ready for the 80 degrees to come back. This morning my house was at 58 degrees. Now I don’t know about you but for me this is downright nippy. Tomorrow and the next day should be back in the 80s which will suit me fine. Sounds like a fair chance of some thunderstorms coming in Thursday night, which is fine, too. If it happens. We’re getting far too used to the rain missing us so I’m hoping this time doesn’t go that route. We’ll see. As we always do.

Tuesday, June 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Refreshing Summer Weather Ahead For Awhile

Tuesday, June 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Refreshing Summer Weather Ahead For Awhile

Currently 67 with an average wind from the N of 7 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.06 & rising, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:24 pm.

Plenty of sunshine today. High around 79. N winds 10-15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 49. NNE winds 10-15 mph.

For folks who like their summer weather not quite as hot as what we’ve been experiencing of late, the next couple of weeks should feel about perfect. Nothing sweltering in view, maybe a couple of opportunities for a bit of rain. Should be the sort of summer many people prefer. No idea past that length of time, but for a few weeks we are in the comfort zone.

We did get a bit of unexpected rain yesterday afternoon. .15″ in my little backyard. Not much, but anything is welcome – expected or not.

Monday, June 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Refreshing Morning, Lovely Day Ahead

Currently 69 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 70s. N winds 5 – 15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the mid 50s. N winds 5 -10 with gusts to around 20 in the evening becoming light.

What a marvelous morning. The air is crisp and clean, the prospects for a delightful day are ahead of us. This is going to be a very comfortable week coming our way. Don’t see much opportunity for some needed rain, but also don’t see any smothering high heat taking aim at us, either. Should be a good week to be out and about just enjoying the heck out of summer.

Sunday, June 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunny Sunday With A Comfortable Week On The Way

Sunday, June 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Sunny Sunday With A Comfortable Week On The Way

Currently 80 with an average wind from the NW of 4 mph. Feels like 80 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 30, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 80s. NW winds 10-15 mph.

60% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after midnight. Low around 60. NW winds around 10 mph becoming NE with gusts to 30 overnight.

Opportunities for rain keep on missing us. Except for a couple of good rains, we are getting nothing. This coming week promises comfortable temperatures mainly in the upper 70s, but it gives us scant hope for any rain. With SO many places around the country far over their average on rainfall it’s difficult to imagine we are so in need. But we are. In the meantime, this coming week will be one to enjoy some outdoor activities without worrying about heatstroke. Not bad.

Saturday, June 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Missed Yesterday’s Chance For Rain

Saturday, June 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Missed Yesterday’s Chance For Rain

Currently 63 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.91, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Foggy early with a 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. High in the upper 80s. Light winds becoming NW 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Low in the lower 60s. NW winds 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Slightly foggy out there this morning with a colorless sky overhead. There is a slight chance of severe storms for lower Michigan from 9:00 this morning through 8:00 am tomorrow. We totally and completely missed any chance from yesterday’s rain, so it would be great to get some today. Not necessarily the severe part. We could skip out on that but the rain would most certainly be welcome. Especially since there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of opportunities coming up to get any.

Friday, June 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be Hot, Maybe Stormy Later In The Day

Friday, June 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be Hot, Maybe Stormy Later In The Day

Currently 82 with an average wind from the N of 2 mph. Feels like 84 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 29.88 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. E winds 5 -10 mph becoming light.

Today will be a scorcher with a pretty fair chance for some storms in the afternoon. Tomorrow could be a repeat on a smaller scale, slightly less hot with fewer opportunities for afternoon storms. Our best days coming up-as of right now-would appear to be next Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures dropping into the 70s. Should be refreshing, if it pans out. Just keep cool and safe, get through today and you’ll be doing fine.

Thursday, June 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Staying Hot, Small Chance Of Rain

Thursday, June 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Staying Hot, Small Chance Of Rain

Currently 71 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 30.02 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the evening. Low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

Yesterday presented a lovely rain with my backyard ending up with about .40″. Nothing flashy or loud, a steady rumble of distant thunder with a gentle downpour that freshened tree leaves and dry grass. We do have a small chance later today and perhaps tomorrow for a bit more rain but unless things change, I don’t see much coming at us for the entire next week. Going to be dry but the temperatures seem to be settling down into the low 80s, maybe even some 70 degree range days. Might end up a pleasant week.

Wednesday, June 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Lots Of Sunshine, Perhaps Some Rain Later

Wednesday, June 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Lots Of Sunshine, Perhaps Some Rain Later

Currently 82 with an average wind from the NNE of 2 mph. Feels like 86 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 30.08 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

Patchy morning fog. Mostly sunny becoming partly sunny with a 60% chance of showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High in the mid 80s. Light winds becoming E 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Patchy dense fog possible. Light winds becoming E 5 – 10 mph.

There is the opportunity to see a total solar eclipse around dawn tomorrow. Our area could – if the skies cooperate and you have a a clear view of the horizon – have the chance to see 30 or 40% of this event. If you do try to see it, make sure you have the proper eye protection because even with a small viewing such as we could see, it’s still dangerous to look at with the naked eye. So just don’t do that.

Anyway, we do have a bit of a chance for some rain and since that’s also becoming a rather rare event, we should all hope for that to materialize. I fear this is going to become another perhaps overly warm, too dry season. Let’s hope not. It’s bad enough that the farmers in so many parts of this nation of ours are facing more financial woes due to dry weather, but this is something we here in Michigan don’t usually have to face. I’m thinking the situation is only going to grow and encompass more of us facing such issues. Not good. I think it’s way past time to begin not only thinking of different ways to grow crops and tend to farm animals but to implement those ideas. Our food supply might well depend on these new and ingenious ways to grow things. Such is the way life on this planet of ours is going…

Tuesday, June 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Finally Got A Substantial Rain

Tuesday, June 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Finally Got A Substantial Rain

Currently 70 with a calm wind from the South. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 70, Barometer 30.07, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

Patchy dense fog until midday. 60% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms. High in the mid 80s. Light winds with gusts to 20 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 30% chance of rain shower and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

Yesterday finally gave us a good, solid rain. Measured a little over an inch in my backyard. Much needed rain at that. Today the morning fog has been dense and slow to lift. The Dew Point is high making it feel muggy outside with no wind to help things feel cool. Might be rerun time for the next couple of days, the circumstances are right. Temperatures are seemingly set on staying in the same range all week. It might be too warm for some, but we here in SW Michigan are not, thankfully, deep into the heat wave much of the rest of the country is living through. So – could be worse, folks. Just take it easy, keep cool and keep an umbrella handy just in case.
