An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, May 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Not A Pleasant Day

Currently 42 with an average wind from the NE of 18 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 40, Barometer 30.07 & rising, Humidity 90%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:12 pm.

Cloudy with an 80% chance of rain. Windy. High 53. ENE winds 20-30 with higher gusts possible.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 38. NE winds 15-25 with higher gusts possible.

Okay…so the wind won’t completely leave us a the daylight fades today, but tomorrow sound a whole lot better. Today is just plain ugly. Cold, windy, wet. Not much to be thrilled with. Tomorrow and Sunday will be sunny and in the sixties. Not bad at all. A tad on the cool side for me, but great temperatures for most outdoor activities on this Memorial Day weekend. So…just get through today and enjoy the next couple.

Thursday, May 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Expecting Rain, Chilly Temperatures

Thursday, May 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Expecting Rain, Chilly Temperatures

Currently 52 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 49 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 30.22 & falling, Humidity 55%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:12 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of afternoon rain showers. High 62. ENE winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 90% chance of overnight periods of rain. Low 42. ENE winds 15-25 mph.

Sounds as if we might get a bit more of the much needed rain here tonight and tomorrow. A little chillier than a lot of us would like, but it seems to go with the rain and in that case, good enough. Our Memorial Day weekend will be sort of on the cooler side – 60 degree range Saturday, maybe sneaking into the low 70s for Sunday – but should bring us clear skies and sunshine. Could be so much worse. Should make for nice outdoor activity weather for the most part.

Wednesday, May 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Cool Down Comes With The Rain

Wednesday, May 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Cool Down Comes With The Rain

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SW of 6 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.93 & rising, Humidity 91%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:09 am, Sunset 9:10 pm.

Cloudy with the chance of a bit of sunshine later on. Possible rain shower or thunderstorm. High 77. WSW winds 10 -20 pm.

Cloudy skies overnight. Low 44. N winds 10-20 mph.

We did get some much needed rain overnight. In fact, it’s been such a long time since we had a nice persistent rain that when I woke up about 4:30 and found it raining, I spent almost an hour sitting by the open window just enjoying the sight and sound of it. A bit of traffic that I can no longer see since the trees have all leafed out, but can hear, swishing along the rainy road. Tree leaves shining and shivering, just the sound of raindrops falling on anything it could find to land on in my tiny backyard patio. It was lovely. Got almost an inch, .80″ of rain, which is going to help so much to liven things up again. We will dip down to the 50 degree range by Friday, but never fear, it will warm right back up into the 70s again quite quickly. It’s worth the cool down to get the rain. Wish we had more in line, and maybe the next couple of days, especially Friday, could bring us a bit, but after that it looks dry again. Should be pleasant weather for Memorial Day weekend.

Tuesday, May 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be Hot And Humid Today

Tuesday, May 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be Hot And Humid Today

Currently 76 with an average wind from the SSW of 5 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.98 & falling, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:08 pm.

Partly sunny until midday becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. There is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the mid to upper 80s. SW winds 10-15 becoming 15-20.

90% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 60s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Looks to be a pretty fair chance for some rain between now and the coming weekend. And so far, the weekend sound quite nice. Not so much heat but plenty of sunshine. I think most folks will be happy with it…if it holds together as promised.

Will we get a chance to see the Super Flower Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse here? Not very darn likely. Cloud cover is not going to be our friend if our hope is to be able to peer into the sky to see the big 2021 eclipse. Alas…now if you choose to dash off to Hawaii you will be in luck. There again…not very likely.

Monday, May 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Cooler Days Ahead

Monday, May 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Cooler Days Ahead

Currently 58 with an average wind from the E of 2 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Humidity 86%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:06 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 60% chance of some morning showers and thunderstorms. High in the low 80s. SE winds around 5 mph becoming SW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the mid 60s. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Today, tomorrow we will be under the Jet Stream arching high over our state, keeping us nicely in the heat. However, by mid week that Jet Stream is going to be playing games with us, dipping way down below us, at least temporarily taking away our warm days and dropping us into the 60 degrees. Maybe even a day in the 50s. Won’t last all that long, but it will feel either refreshing or too cold, depending on how you look upon summer-type heat. Me? I’m going to be in with the too cold bunch. I like it hot. But…I like the rain that could very well come along with the game playing with our temperatures. We could end up with at least a bit of much needed precipitation.  I hope so. It’s much too early for grass to be browning up…it should be well into greening glory.

Sunday, May 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Week Of Possible Rain Coming Up

Sunday, May 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Week Of Possible Rain Coming Up

Currently 73 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 73. Dew Point 66, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Humidity 78%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:10 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Cloudy early with afternoon rain and thunderstorms possible. High 77. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of overnight rain. Low 54. E winds 10-15 mph.

Not that we can count on it 100% but there is some chance of rain coming up every day this week until next weekend. Will we get all of it? Not likely. Will we get some of it? Hopefully. The week may end up cooler but since we’ve had some close to 90 days, it may feel rather refreshing by then. What ever comes along we’ll live with and and live through. Just keeping fingers crossed for the much needed rain to come our way.

Saturday, May 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Hot Day Coming Up

Saturday, May 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Hot Day Coming Up

Currently 77 with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Cloudy early becoming much sunnier in the afternoon. Slight chance of morning rain. High in the mid 80s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25 late.

Cloudy to partly cloudy overnight. Low 64. WSW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

It did appear as if we got a couple drops of rain overnight. At least there is an odd very small puddle here and there. I hate to keep holding out hope, but there is a chance to might get some rain late tomorrow. Really. Or maybe not. What we will get for sure is more 80 degree heat. Right now it looks as if there is a chance – not a large chance, but a chance – of rain most days next week. I guess we’ll see how it goes. It’s nice when severe weather routes around us here in SW Michigan, but when the beneficial precipitation that we do need follows along those same paths? Not so good.

The maniac with the mower came around early yesterday morning to mow up more of the sand out back. And tear up any grass roots putting up the appearance of a fight for existence. Joy. Nothing but joy. The guy must truly hate grass. And I suspect the feeling is mutual.

Friday, May 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Hints Of Possible Rain In Forecast

Friday, May 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Hints Of Possible Rain In Forecast

Currently 83 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 86 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.33 & rising, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:12 am, Sunset 9:05 pm.

Party to mostly cloudy with a high around 86. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a 50% chance of rain showers after midnight. Low 66. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Well, all of a sudden the idea that we could be getting some rain from now on through much of this coming week is showing up. My, my, my…how things change in a day. Right now it looks as if the current rain system might be rising from the south to the north in the usual pattern, once again hitting the upper part of Michigan but missing us. Let’s hope not. We could use some of that moisture. The air quality is bad again with pollen. Plus, there could be a tiny problem with smoke coming down from Canadian wildfires that seems set on filtering down into the northern tier of states. I remember once, decades ago, when there was a huge fire in Canada and I got the most spectacular pictures of our sky looking like it was on fire. I’ll see if I can’t locate those pictures. I know I have them on file someplace. They’re worth sharing again if I can. In the meantime, fingers crossed that the rain showing up in future forecasts for parts of Michigan does indeed make it into our area.

Thursday, May 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Drought Becoming Very Real Word For SW Mich

Thursday, May 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Drought Becoming Very Real Word For SW Mich

Currently 72 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.29 & rising, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:03 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 80s. S winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy. Low in the mid 60s. S winds 5- 10 mph.

Once again missed out on much needed rain. I think my little area got a whole 5 drops of it. We are really in need of moisture now and it’s only looking to get worse. At least for the short term. Here comes the heat due to a very strong high pressure ridge that isn’t going to be moving much and a Jet Stream curving way, way up to the north of us, leaving us smack dab tucked in under that ridge. Look for some temperatures nudging 90, definitely 80s, but don’t be looking for much in the way of needed rain around here ’cause it just isn’t in the cards as of right now. I’m loving the warmth, but longing for some rain to mix in there someplace. I think we’re going to appreciate a nice long rain-if and when we get one. Anyone know how to do a really effective rain dance?

Wednesday, May 19, 2021-SW Michigan-No Rain Yet, But Getting Warmer

Wednesday, May 19, 2021-SW Michigan-No Rain Yet, But Getting Warmer

Currently 69 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.23 & rising, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:15 am, Sunset 9:02 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High 80. S winds 10-15 with gust to around 30.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low in the lower 60s. S winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 25 in the evening.

The air feels a little close out there this morning. There is some hope of rain later on and I’m hoping it puts in an appearance. We could use it. Bizarre how parts of the country have an abundance and others in need. Right about now we’re in the needy portion for some precipitation. The heat will be with us this week giving us days of 80 degree weather and I’m more than ready for it.
