An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Saturday, July 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Supposed To Be Partly Sunny Out There

Saturday, July 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Supposed To Be Partly Sunny Out There

Currently 71 with an average wind from the NNE of 4 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.11, Humidity 78%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.

Partly sunny until midday then becoming mostly sunny. High in the upper 70s. NE winds 10-15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 60. Light winds.

Well, I don’t know but I don’t really see any sunny anything out there, partly or not. However, there’s supposed to be some clear sky out there – somewhere. I guess evidently not outside my window. Fingers crossed that some will show up. Tomorrow should be a great day with sunshine and comfortable temperature. A nice Sunday for about anything you plan on doing that requires being outdoors. All in all, a good weekend – even if some of the predicted clear sky doesn’t evidently want to put in an appearance right yet. Patience, that’s what Mother Nature requires from us. Good thing I have such a vast amount of it to call on. LOL

Friday, July 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Looking For A Little Rain

Friday, July 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Looking For A Little Rain

Currently 71 with an average wind from the E of 7 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

Cloudy with a 30% chance of afternoon showers. High 73. E winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy becoming partly cloudy after midnight. 20% chance of showers. Low 62. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

So…measured .20″ of rain in the gauge. We simply are not getting all the rain other folks are. Not even close. If we don’t get any this afternoon or evening, nothing in sight for the next week. We will, however, be getting some rather warm weather this coming Sunday and Monday. It’s summer after all, so to be expected.  Looking forward to it. But then, I really do like hot summer weather. I like rainy days, too, but since those seem to be on the scarce side for our area, so I’ll just be happy with the sunshine. Might as well be, right?

Thursday, July 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Rain Today, Tonight-A Nice Weekend Ahead

Thursday, July 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Rain Today, Tonight-A Nice Weekend Ahead

Currently 73 with an average wind from the SSW of 10 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew point 68, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 83%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:19 pm.

70% chance of showers and thunderstorms today. High in the upper 70s. W winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low lower 60s. NW winds 5-10 mph becoming NE overnight.

Measured .40″ overnight rain. Had a nice little rain a little after 2:00-even some thunder. It was lovely. Today gives us a fair chance for some more rain, maybe tonight, might be tomorrow. Then a week of clear sailing ahead with no rain in view, temperatures in the 80s…as of now, anyway. Things probably changing as I type this. So right now I’d say it does look as if we’re in for a nice weather weekend and beginning of the new week. After that? The usual wait and see game, I reckon.

Wednesday, July 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Get Some Heavy Weather TTomorrow

Wednesday, July 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Get Some Heavy Weather TTomorrow

Currently 74 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 91%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:17 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Starting with some sunshine but developing clouds with about a 15% chance of a stray shower popping up. High 81. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of late thunderstorms developing. Low 72, SSW winds 10-15 mph.

There seems to be a fairly good chance of us getting some strong storms late tonight and into tomorrow morning. That doesn’t mean we will, of course, ’cause our weather hardly ever work out the way it’s predicted. And, again as usual, we could hovering on the fringe area of the strong storm line. Or at least not in the bull’s eye zone. However, that storm system is moving our way through Wisconsin and will eventually head across the big lake toward Michigan. So we should be prepared just in case. Doesn’t hurt and could possibly help. One of these days, the predicted weather will come about so being prepared just makes sense.

Tuesday, July 13, 2021-SW Michigan-They Keep Saying Rain, But We Keep Getting None

Tuesday, July 13, 2021-SW Michigan-They Keep Saying Rain, But We Keep Getting None

Currently 73 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 70, Barometer 29.97, Humidity 93%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High 76. WSW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 20.

Partly cloudy with a slight chance of precipitation. Low 64. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Okay, so the forecast keeps throwing in the chance for rain, but none keeps showing up. None. Except for tomorrow. No rain in the picture then. So maybe that’s when we’ll get some? I’m not sure. All I know is there doesn’t seem to make much sense planning your days around a thunderstorm here lately. I reckon there’s a good chance that even if you cart your umbrella around with you, you probably aren’t going to be needing it. Or maybe you will…goodness knows at this point. My forecast is for you to be able to get on with things and forget about being rained out…or maybe not.  All I’m sure of is I’m getting good and tired of typing the word rain and having no idea of what it even means anymore.  Bottom line? We haven’t had any sunshine the past few days, but then again, we haven’t had any rain either. End of story.

Monday, July 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Expecting Some Rain

Monday, July 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Expecting Some Rain

Currently 67 with an average wind from the ENE of 7 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 86%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms. High in the upper 70s. E winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 25.

70% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

They keep forecasting rain but so far none has shown up. Still looking for some today, tonight, tomorrow. Might get some sunshine Wednesday though. At least the sky is looking like it could turn into a rainy day or evening. Reckon the only thing to do is keep the umbrella handy and get on with things. As usual.

Sunday, July 11, 2021-SW Michigan-A More Or Less Rainy Week Ahead

Sunday, July 11, 2021-SW Michigan-A More Or Less Rainy Week Ahead

Currently 69 with an average wind from the ENE of 2 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 59, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:14 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

Overcast today with a slight chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. High 73. ENE winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy with about a 15% chance of overnight showers showing up. Low 63. ENE 10-15 mph.

Nothing much has changed since yesterday except most of today’s rain has been taken out of the picture. The remaining part of the week looks to be in the upper 70s, perhaps lower 80s, with a fair chance of rain every day. If everything plays nicely and does what it’s supposed to, next weekend could end up a winner. We’ll see how it goes.

Saturday, July 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Week Of Rain Coming

Saturday, July 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Week Of Rain Coming

Currently 65 with an average wind from the ENE of 2 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.08, Humidity 73%, Barometer 30.08, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds. High around 80. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

50% chance of occasional overnight showers. Low 63. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

It sounds as if the rain could be starting tonight and once it begins the turn-off valve seems to be misplaced. Could be rain every day until next weekend. I don’t think this is quite what we need or want but when a system insists on squatting overhead, there isn’t much we can do about it. Beyond keeping our umbrella handy.

Friday, July 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures Staying Moderate

Friday, July 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures Staying Moderate

Currently 61 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 61 degrees, Dew Point 59, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 93%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:11 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

A mostly cloudy morning should turn into a partly sunny afternoon. High around 78. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low in the mid 50s. NW winds 10 in the evening will becoming light.

A rather blah looking morning, but it isn’t raining, no wind to speak of, comfortable temperatures. Probably more good than otherwise out there. Tomorrow should be pleasant but right at the moment it appears as if we’re looking at a rainy Sunday. Not what most of us want, but we get what we get, I guess. The coming week looks to have a chance of rain every day until about Friday. We all know how that can change but so far, that seems to be the coming attraction for our area.

Thursday, July 8, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Rain, Lower Temps

Thursday, July 8, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Rain, Lower Temps

Currently 66 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 94%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:12 am, Sunset 9:24 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms possible until about midday. High in the lower 70s. Light winds becoming W 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a slight chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up. Low in the lower 50s, NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

A/C off, windows open. Got about .42″ in the rain gauge this morning. The sky looks like it could be holding more for us today. I guess we’ll find out. Temperatures seem to be holding mostly in the 70s this coming week. Not a bad one coming up. At least we’re not having to cope with tropical storms like Elsa. Plenty of states dealing with flooding from it already.
