An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Tuesday, July 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Rain Today/Tonight/Tomorrow

Tuesday, July 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Rain Today/Tonight/Tomorrow

Currently 75 with an average wind from the NW of 2 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:29 am, Sunset 9:10 pm.

Sunshine and clouds today with a slight chance of a rain shower or thunderstorm popping up. High 88. W winds 10-15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight skies with that same small chance of rain or a thunderstorm showing up. Low 65. NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

There is the threat of some severe weather but it really looks as if it will be traveling, once again, through the upper parts of Michigan, leaving the loser part of Michigan alone. That slight chance of severe weather might be a bit more located in our area about Wednesday night, early Thursday. But that’s iffy – as is usually the case. Just something to keep in mind as a possibility. In the meantime it will be warm and a bit humid. Summery stuff.

Monday, July 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be A Hot One

Monday, July 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be A Hot One

Currently 77 degrees with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:28 am, Sunset 9:11 pm.

Sunny with a high near 90. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

A few passing overnight clouds. Low 67. WSW winds 5-10 mph.

Count on a close, humid, hot day. Tomorrow and Wednesday will likely be on the warm side, too, but then the chance of some rain around Thursday should bring in a bit of relief from the heat. By then I suspect any lessening of the temperature will be welcome. Most certainly not in the dire conditions of some parts of our nation sweltering under days and days of 100+ heat, but 90 and humid in Michigan is hot enough. Any outside chores might better be tended to early to avoid as much of it as you can. That’s my plan, anyway.

Sunday, July 25, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Splendid Summer Days

Sunday, July 25, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Splendid Summer Days

Currently 81 with an average wind from the W of 1 mph. Feels like 83 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 29.91, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:27 am, Sunset 9:12 pm.

Sunny skies with a high about 86 degrees. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight sky. Low 61. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Tomorrow we should be brushing close to 90 but as today, the humidity isn’t supposed to be out of sight, so shouldn’t be too terribly uncomfortable. As for the rain chances we had yesterday, I’m not sure about anyone else’s backyard, but mine got precious little of it. Brief, sporadic batches of light rain. I measured a whole .09″ this morning in the rain gauge. I could see storm elsewhere on the radar but nothing even close here. As is so often the case. In the meantime, enjoy this lovely summer weather. I know I will.

Saturday, July 24, 3031-SW Michigan-Rain Expected, Perhaps Thunderstorms

Saturday, July 24, 3031-SW Michigan-Rain Expected, Perhaps Thunderstorms

Currently 78 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 80 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 87%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 6:26 am, Sunset 9:13 pm.

Partly cloudy to mostly  cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. The possibility for severe storms exists. High near 85. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

70% chance of evening thunderstorms should give way to partly cloudy skies after midnight. Storms may contain gusty winds. Low 67 degrees. W winds 10-20 mph.

There seems to be a chance of some severe weather later today, maybe overnight but tomorrow should shape up to be a grand day. Just have to weather whatever comes out way until then. Right now it’s quite muggy, the air is close and heavy. A good rain might help clear that out – looking forward to it.

Friday, July 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Welcome Rain

Friday, July 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Welcome Rain

Currently 69 degrees with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 30.13, Humidity, 97%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:25 am, Sunset 9:14 pm.

30% chance of showers or thunderstorms in the morning becoming mostly cloudy and hazy with a slight chance of afternoon rain. High 83. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

40% chance of overnight shower or thunderstorms. Cloudy and hazy conditions continue. Low 71. S winds at 5-10 mph.

Quite humid this morning with a slight haze in the air. We did get, according to my rain gauge measurement, .80″ of rain last night. Slight mist this morning when I went out to feed the critters. We could get a bit more rain today, tonight and tomorrow but Sunday remains looking excellent. Looking forward to the niceness of Sunday, but have no aversion to an equally nice rain today and maybe tomorrow. Can easily do without storms, but a gentle rain is nothing short of lovely. Keeping things green and hydrated while giving us a chance to enjoy doing inside chores. A win/win situation.

Thursday, July 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Pattern Continues To Be Comfortable

Thursday, July 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Pattern Continues To Be Comfortable

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.20, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:24 am, Sunset 9:15 pm.

Mix of sun and clouds today with a small chance of a stray shower possible. High 82. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Increasing clouds with a 50% chance of overnight showers or thunderstorms possible. Low around 65. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

The possibility of a bit of rain keeps cropping up but so far it’s not amounting to anything. It may at some point. A fair chance tomorrow night through Saturday showing up yet with Sunday still sounding about perfect.

Still watching disturbing numbers come out as a result of the historic flooding in Germany and Belgium. I think it’s up past 200 now. So tragic. Extreme weather around the globe continues to make me feel blessed about where we are here in SW Michigan. We get some good and some bad but rarely anything as harsh and dangerous as so many other places on this planet.  Feeling blessed at the same time feeling sorry for others not so fortunate. It’s basically a crap-shoot, isn’t it? Life on this earth of ours can be a puzzle and a pain or mellow and manageable – and anything in between. What a world!

Wednesday, July 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Clouds, But No Rain Today

Wednesday, July 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Clouds, But No Rain Today

Currently 68 with an average wind from the ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:23 am, Sunset 9:16 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today. High 77. NE winds E 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low 57. Light and variable winds.

Some sun, some clouds, but no rain is currently expected. At least not until about Thursday night. Then it could continue through Saturday. Not a 100% guarantee, about a 50/50 chance. But that’s enough to make finding the umbrella and keeping it handy a good idea. And Sunday, as of right now, is looking wonderful with sunshine galore. We’ll see how it goes, but that’s the story for now.

Tuesday, July 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Blue Origin Space Flight Morning

Tuesday, July 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Blue Origin Space Flight Morning

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SW of 6 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:22 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Sunny. High 85. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 59 degrees. N 10-15 mph.

Our weather is consistent if nothing else. And that’s okay as nothing drastic is going on. Just comfortable summer temperatures, some clouds, some sun. Weather we can work with no matter what’s going on.

And speaking of what’s going on, this is the morning of the Blue Origin Space Flight and I’m so anxious to see this safely happen. To think there is an 82 year old gal in there is blowing this old lady’s mind. I am thrilled. The weather in Texas looks look for launch as I’m typing, so this is an exciting few minutes – the flight will only last 11 minutes – but they will be astronauts none-the-less. And to see the view of our planet from 60 some miles above is phenomenal. Can’t wait. Praying for safety and joy.

Monday, July 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Forecast Loses Previous Mention Of Rain

Monday, July 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Forecast Loses Previous Mention Of Rain

Currently 74 with an average wind from the NW of 6 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 66%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.

Plenty of sunshine today. High 86. NW winds 5 -10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 62. WNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

So – most of the rain tucked into our week weather forecast has been either removed or relocated. Now there is a slight chance for some at the end of the week. However, we all know what that means. Nothing, basically. By tomorrow it will have evolved into something different. Or not. Nothing like being positive and that’s something that’s a tad iffy when it comes to the weather. We CAN be positive that basic summer weather will be ours for three or four months, but the day by day content? Ha! And when you take a look at all the air currents, high pressure systems, low pressure systems, etc. that make up what we end up with? It’s crazy and I find it amazing that we can actually successfully predict any of it in any small measure. The big picture? Absolutely. That’s primarily easy. But breaking it down to small views? Not quite as easy as it would seem. Anyway, enjoy the sunshine and tomorrow…after that? Yeah, right….

Sunday, July 18, 2021-SW Michigan-A Lovely Summer Sunday

Sunday, July 18, 2021-SW Michigan-A Lovely Summer Sunday

Currently 79 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 30.21, Humidity 55%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:20 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.

Plenty of sunshine today. High 86. Light and variable winds.

Clear overnight skies. Low 62. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Once the thin layer of overcast clouds cleared out, there remains a lovely blue summer sky. Should be about a perfect summer Sunday with a nice week coming our way. Mother Nature has given us a checkerboard pattern for a forecast – sunny, rain, sunny, rain, sunny, rain. Well, that’s the way it’s laid out right now. Who knows as the week progresses? For now it looks nicely tidy and even-handed. Whatever comes along, I’m fairly certain you can count on today being a delight. So go forth and enjoy.
