An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Most sites are tossing the word rain in almost every day for this coming week. Some days more of a chance, some less, but it seems to be tucked in there someplace. So…I guess I would predict we might actually get some rain. Let’s see, shall we? Have your umbrella handy and if you don’t need it for rain, give it a dapper twirl once in awhile and feel like you’ve landed in the midst of a British film. Or something…

Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-Should Be A Good Day

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 76%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:36 am, Sunset 8:59 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 84. SW winds 56 -10 mph with gusts to around 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 64. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

As of now, the seems to be a chance – a small chance – for some rain tomorrow. Yesterday was a surprise as I was outside when a handful of fat raindrops starting plopping down around me. Didn’t last long and didn’t amount to much, but it was interesting. The overhead clouds didn’t even particularly look like rain clouds. That does seem to be what we get lately, a hint of rain. Maybe tomorrow a bit more than a hint. Fingers crossed.

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-Heading Toward Some Hot Days

Currently 70 with a calm wind from the SW. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 30.11, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:37 am, Sunset 9:01 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 30% chance of an isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 83. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low 59. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Not bad yet but heading toward some pretty warm days the beginning of the next week. Could get a bit of a cool break on Friday. Maybe even a chance of some rain, but almost for sure temperatures in the 70 degree range. After that it’s well into the 80s with the hottest part right now appearing to be Sunday through next Wednesday. As usual, we’ll see how it goes, but most sites are saying about the same thing.

Tuesday, August 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Enjoy The Summer Sunshine

Tuesday, August 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Enjoy The Summer Sunshine

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 59, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:36 am, Sunset 9:03 pm.

Sunny becoming partly cloudy later on. High near 80. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 58. Light and variable winds.

Next few days should be pleasant with sunshine and comfortable temperatures.  Right now we find ourselves in the middle of a big dip in the jet stream, bringing us some cooler, dryer air. We are so fortunate here. Elsewhere there are more than 81 wildfires blazing…and even more smaller ones. The air quality is becoming a problem in many areas. The hotter the days, the dryer the weather in so many places – all add to the misery and woe being faced. So far, we’ve lucked out as far as major issues and we should be grateful. We need to remind ourselves to be grateful. Our moderate weather is something we tend to take for granted. And moderate is where we’ll dwell for awhile here. Enjoy.

Monday, August 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Pleasant Week Continues

Monday, August 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Pleasant Week Continues

Currently 68 with an average wind from the WSW of 1 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:35 am, Sunset 9:04 pm.

Sunny to partly cloudy today with a high near 75. WNW winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low 52. WSW winds 5- 10 mph.

Our week is looking good, gradually warming up to what could be a nice warm Sunday and Monday. Of course along with that warmth comes a chance for rain, but we’ll believe that when we feel it falling on our heads. At any rate, that’s what’s painted into the picture for now. Until that big ‘ol eraser that Mother Nature seemingly sometimes takes great delight in wielding, eliminates any of it, that’s what I’m seeing.

Sunday, August 1, 2021 (Really)-SW Michigan-A Fine If A Bit Hazy Day

Sunday, August 1, 2021 (Really)-SW Michigan-A Fine If A Bit Hazy Day

Currently 68 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 29.97, Humidity 68%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 6:34 am, Sunset 9:05 pm.

Hazy. Mostly cloudy skies should become partly cloudy in the afternoon. There is a slight – 20% – chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up. High 74. N winds 10-20 mph.

A few evening clouds should give way to becoming mostly clear overnight. Low 52. NNE winds 10-15 mph.

So, will the real August 1 please stand up? Yup, yesterday I took a turn at rushing the calendar by a day – for no good reason other than the fact that I failed to pay proper attention to things. At any rate, today truly is the 1st day of August and it’s a fine one. The coming week should stay in the comfortable range but if all goes according to forecast, we could be in the upper 80s for next weekend. We shall see. At least today is feeling fine. Enjoy it.

Saturday, August 1, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Start To August

Saturday, August 1, 2021-SW Michigan-A Great Start To August

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:33 am, Sunset 9:06 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 76 degrees.  W winds 10-15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 61. W winds 5 -10 mph.

A splendid Summer Saturday and a fine beginning to the month of August. Temperature will remain comfortable but there is a slight chance for some rain tonight and tomorrow. None after that until next weekend, so I guess we’d better hope we get a bit of this go-round. Not that it’s going to make any big difference. We can be on the list, next in line almost, but still miss out on much precipitation. We’ll see how it goes this time – as usual. In the meantime, enjoy today. It’s going to be  a dandy.

Friday, July 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilled Right Down

Friday, July 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilled Right Down

Currently 61 with an average wind from the NE of 1 mph. Feels like 61 degrees.  Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.13, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:32 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 76 degrees. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Some evening clouds will become mostly clear overnight. Low 53. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Feels downright chilly this morning. I hesitate to even think fall…but when I went out to feed the critters, that was the feeling that hovered around. This coming week looks to be in the 70 degree daytime temperature range. Very comfortable for most any and everything outdoors. There is a very slight chance of some rain tomorrow, but the rest of the week hasn’t a hint of precipitation in view. August seems to be coming in mild and without weather dramatics.

Thursday, July 29, 2021-SW Michigan-No Storms Very Little Rain

Thursday, July 29, 2021-SW Michigan-No Storms Very Little Rain

Currently 75 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.79, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:31 am, Sunset 9:08 pm.

Sun and clouds mix today with a high of 83. NNW winds 10-20 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy overnight with a low of 55. N winds 10-20.

Once again, whatever storms were in the wind decided to travel elsewhere. I didn’t notice any lightening, thunder, wind…I only measured .10″ of rain in the gauge this morning, so we were pretty much ignored by this latest system. Today with this high humidity and high dew point, the air isn’t going to feel all that comfortable but we are heading into a nice cool down. The entire coming week should put us in the 70 degree range, so it should be pleasant summertime weather. So far, nothing drastic, nothing harsh, nothing unexpected in store.

Wednesday, July 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Could Get A Little Lively Tonight

Wednesday, July 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Weather Could Get A Little Lively Tonight

Currently 79 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 82 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:30 am, Sunset 9:09 pm.

Mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 89. Light and variable winds.

80% chance of overnight scattered thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe and produce damaging winds. Low around 70. SW winds 10-15 mph.

There is a storm system working its way toward us but, as usual, we never know. Mostly the rain storms slide off in some other direction. This is fine in that we miss the bad stuff but missing out on the rain isn’t always so good. Would welcome some rain. Maybe some thunder and lightening,  but the severe part we can do without. I guess we’ll see what comes our way. Just a heads up that the weather could get a bit feisty during the night.
